    Preventing Burnout

    Preventing Burnout

Over the past season, we’ve taken deep dives into how the world of work has been changing. For our final episode this season, we’re looking beyond the technology, the company culture, and the distributed work models. We’re looking at you and how you find balance day to day. A recent report by the World Economic Forum showed that with an increase in remote work, there has been more demand among employers and employees for skills related to well-being. Business leaders are taking steps to create a sense of community online and tackle challenges related to digital wellness. Well-being expert Jennifer Moss spent the pandemic researching burnout. What's Beyond Zero Trust?

    What's Beyond Zero Trust?

It can be as easy as clicking a link and all is lost. Hackers take their time finding weak points, entering our personal and professional systems without our knowledge. It's estimated that in 2020, losses from cybercrime around the world were just under a trillion dollars. With the rapid changes to work over the last year, proper security is even more vital. As we settle into flexible work with multiple gadgets and devices, how can we stay secure? That’s where zero trust comes in. Security experts explain how this approach can stop data breaches and protect your information.

    Building Resilience in the Cloud

    Building Resilience in the Cloud

In early March, Teniesha Wright-Jones and Lamont Jones were among the first doctors in Michigan to treat patients for COVID-19. Then, they tested positive for the virus. Because of their roles as pivotal healthcare providers in the midst of a pandemic, the two were forced to nurse themselves back to health while remotely navigating an overhaul in how they provided healthcare. There were some big questions to answer: How could they make sure patient information was safe and secure while working from home? How could all parts of the hospital connect with each other? Most importantly, how could they get the information they needed -- in real time? The answers for those working remotely in healthcare and in so many industries, can be found in the cloud. In this episode, we'll hear from Al Taylor, co-founder of cloudDNA, a UK company that provides a solution for wide-scale networking digital infrastructure.

The Fall of the Office Ping Pong Tables

The Fall of the Office Ping Pong Tables

From yoga classes to gourmet meals to waterfalls, pre-pandemic offices were built so employees never really wanted to leave. Company culture was a side effect of tangible office perks, and connecting with colleagues was as easy as turning a swivel chair around to join the office discussion about the most recent episode of Game of Thrones. Now, connecting with colleagues is only possible through a screen, and in-office benefits are a thing of the distant past (it's not like a company can ship a ping pong table to their employees' houses). So how do you boost WFH morale? How do you ensure employees are connecting in a meaningful way? How do you build a culture when everyone in the office is apart?

    The Freelance Wave

    The Freelance Wave

The recent emphasis on flexible work has driven a massive surge in freelancing. Workers are ditching the notion of being strapped to a desk from nine to five in favor of digital nomadism, otherwise known as the location-independent workforce. With the right technology, the options of where you want to work are now endless. In this episode, we'll meet several expert and rookie digital nomads as they explore the possibilities stemming from this new way of working. We'll also meet Adam Ozimek, Chief Economist at Upwork, to hear his thoughts on the past, present and future of freelancing.

    Remote Work: Extreme Arctic Edition

    Remote Work: Extreme Arctic Edition

There’s work from home, and then there’s remote work - emphasis on the remote. Picture living in a tiny trapper's hut built in the 1930s with no running water, no electricity. The nearest town is 86 miles away and your nearest neighbors are polar bears. Meet Sunniva Sorby and Hilde Fålun Strøm. This is their home office in the heart of Svalbard, Norway. Self-described polar ambassadors and citizen scientists, Sunniva and Hilde are there to inspire “global dialogue about the changes we are experiencing in the Polar Regions” and to show why climate change in these regions should matter to everyone. No matter what your office looks like, or where you are in the world, this episode is filled with advice surrounding isolation and creating boundaries between work and life (even when it feels sometimes like there is no clear distinction between the two).

    Keeping Your Team in Tune

    Keeping Your Team in Tune

An orchestra can be seen as the ultimate team. Every member is integral to the whole; every individual must be in tune with the larger group. Concert halls closed and musicians went home with their violins, flutes, cellos, and bassoons. In the second episode of Remote Works, we'll visit the Colorado Symphony and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra to explore how technology has enabled remote work for even the tightest of teams.
