Over the past season, we’ve taken deep dives into how the world of work has been changing. For our final episode this season, we’re looking beyond the technology, the company culture, and the distributed work models. We’re looking at you and how you find balance day to day. A recent report by the World Economic Forum showed that with an increase in remote work, there has been more demand among employers and employees for skills related to well-being. Business leaders are taking steps to create a sense of community online and tackle challenges related to digital wellness. Well-being expert Jennifer Moss spent the pandemic researching burnout. She joins us to discuss what can be done to prevent it and what employers and individuals can do to create balance at work.

In early March, Teniesha Wright-Jones and Lamont Jones were among the first doctors in Michigan to treat patients for COVID-19. Then, they tested positive for the virus. Because of their roles as pivotal healthcare providers in the midst of a pandemic, the two were forced to nurse themselves back to health while remotely navigating an overhaul in how they provided healthcare. There were some big questions to answer: How could they make sure patient information was safe and secure while working from home? How could all parts of the hospital connect with each other? Most importantly, how could they get the information they needed -- in real time? The answers for those working remotely in healthcare and in so many industries, can be found in the cloud. In this episode, we'll hear from Al Taylor, co-founder of cloudDNA, a UK company that provides a solution for wide-scale networking digital infrastructure.

Company culture was a side effect of tangible office perks, and connecting with colleagues was as easy as turning a swivel chair around to join the office discussion about the most recent episode of Game of Thrones. There’s work from home, and then there’s remote work - emphasis on the remote. Picture living in a tiny trapper's hut built in the 1930s with no running water, no electricity. The nearest town is 86 miles away and your nearest neighbors are polar bears. Meet Sunniva Sorby and Hilde Fålun Strøm. This is their home office in the heart of Svalbard, Norway. Self-described polar ambassadors and citizen scientists, Sunniva and Hilde are there to inspire “global dialogue about the changes we are experiencing in the Polar Regions” and to show why climate change in these regions should matter to everyone. No matter what your office looks like, or where you are in the world, this episode is filled with advice surrounding isolation and creating boundaries between work and life (even when it feels sometimes like there is no clear distinction between the two).

Benjamin Pardo is Design Director at Knoll. He looks at the future of work from a design/space perspective, analyzing radical shifts in the workspace, discussing the state of today's office environments, and speculating on the potential challenges and transformations in the near future.  

Lights, camera, living room.... host Melanie Green takes a look at the new remote work realities in the world of media. Emmy Award-winning WRAL-TV anchor/reporter Kathryn Brown brings us behind the scenes in her home studio where she's been busy trying to keep her kids and dog quiet so she can host the evening news. A producer of children's shows coaches her young talent remotely, cajoling them into making blanket forts and silly faces. Meanwhile, animators are right at home in this new reality. Former Disney Exec Aaron Simpson tells us that animation has long been an industry of working remotely, and looks at why it's enjoying a boom now.
