    Fiesta Bowl

    Fiesta Bowl

While football season is now officially over, I know I’m super sad too, the power of the Fiesta Bowl is a year round here in the Valley. The first game was in 1971 with FSU vs ASU. It has grown in size bringing in an average attendance of around 70,000. Kristina Chumpol joined the Fiesta team in 2019 and quickly climbed the ranks to her current title of Chief of Staff and VP of Community Investment. Kristina is a local Scottsdale kid who grew up always understanding the importance of giving back. Which is why the Fiesta Bowl was an easy role to walk into. Fiesta Bowl gives back thousands of dollars each year to teachers and a huge economic impact on our community during the week of the big game.

    Women in Business

    Women in Business

A small town girl out of Illinois, Becca Valcik had the entrepreneur bug bite her at an early age. She moved to our beautiful state some 20 years ago and had her first business of hair extension at the age of 17. As she grew, so did her business. After working in the hair and makeup industry for almost 20 years, Becca and her husband decided to start not one, not two but 4 businesses together. Being a small business owner and a woman, Becca has gone through her own difficulties in life to get to where she is today. While entrepreneurship can be seen as her purpose, it’s her passion for helping women become leaders that makes her stand out.

    Spring Training

    Spring Training

The crack of the bat, peanut shells on the ground and a nice cold drink under the clear blue skies. That only means one thing is town and that’s Spring Training. A time for us to gather with our family and friends to watch the greatest game in America. Watching some of these players try to make it to the next level while watching some of our favorite players up close. Of course here in Scottsdale our home team is none other than the SF Giants. The orange and black are taking over the city as guests from near and far come to our amazing city. The Baltimore Orioles started their spring games here in 1956. And in 1961 the Scottsdale Charros put Scottsdale on the map for Spring Training. Executive Dirof the Charros, Dennis Robbins, knows all too well what this next month means to the Charros and city of Scottsdale.

The Greenest Car Show on Grass

The Greenest Car Show on Grass

Peter Volny was a kid in Australia who had a passion for cars. Skipping college to try his career as a race car driver may not have lasted long, but that passion and love for cars continued to grow. After a lackluster performance in the ad agency world where Peter brags about never winning a single award and never falling for any of his own gimmicks, Peter and his wife moved from frigid Canada to beautiful AZ in 2004. The perfect place for a car collector to live. He and his wife started attending the Cars & Coffee at THE SHOPS, traveling to other car shows around the country when the idea to start his own car collectors show came about, Concurs in the Hill. The 100% volunteered run charity car show started with just 200 cars in 2014 and to over 1,000 last year. Here to talk about the love for car collectors in Scottsdale, Concurs in the Hill and Barett-Jackson is none other than Peter Volny.

    Eminent Special Needs Planning

As we start 2024 and think about our goals, resolutions and the future, one thing that may not be on your mind is planning for your kids future when it comes to your will, estate planning, finances and more. But what if you have a special needs child that needs extra help while you’re their guardian? Have you thought about what could happen when they become of legal age and you don’t have the same rights to help them as you do now. Nicole Kuck is one of those parents, here in Scottsdale. After working as a special education teacher, having her own special news child, she left her job to start Eminent Special Needs Planning, to help other parents like herself prepare for the future.

    Blue Zone Scottsdale Kick off

    Blue Zone Scottsdale Kick off

In September of 2022, we had Michelle Pabis of Honor Health talking about the initiative of getting Blue Zones off the ground. In a short time of about 2 years, we’ve gone from initiative to kick off and I’m excited to have Executive Director of Blue Zones Scottsdale Sarah Kearney with us this week. Sarah comes to Blue ZOnes with an EXTENSIVE love of Scottsdale. She held many positions at Experience Scottsdale for over 16 years. She’s held many leadership positions such as Board President for Scottsdale Leadership, Board President for Community Celebrating Diversity, Board Member for Scottsdale Sister Cities,  Officer of Membership for Millennials in Travel, and the Vice President of Community Outreach at GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix/Scottsdale. Seems to only make sense that she lead the Blue Zone initiative for Scottsdale.

Blue Zones Project makes healthy choices easy through permanent and semi-permanent changes to human made surroundings, policies, systems, and social networks. Instead of a focus on individual behavior change (diet and exercise), it improves the places and spaces people spend the most time so healthy choices are easier. It is community-led and focuses on improving the well-being of the entire community. The project seeks to improve the overall well-being of residents, measured by overall physical, social, and emotional health. A higher level of well-being leads to lower healthcare costs, higher productivity, increased economic vitality, and offers benefits for everybody.
