Randall Kaplan - Drawn to the Uncanny

Randall Kaplan - Drawn to the Uncanny

On today's episode we speak with Randall Kaplan, a visual artist, animator and filmmaker.

Randall was drawn into uncanny territory since a very young age and has used it to fuel his work.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Randall was always very sensitive to his surroundings, and the thoughts and feelings they would give him. Much of what frightened or deeply disturbed him as a child he now uses as inspiration for his art.

He’s worked in multiple mediums—spanning live action film, traditional and stop motion animation, painting and illustration.
Back in 2009, five of his short horror films were compiled into the anthology ‘Beneath the Flesh’, distributed by Pathfinder Pictures.

Upon the release of the DVD, Turner Classic Movies said on their website of the films; “Kaplan expertly blends the uncanny, grotesque, and the touching.”
That’s something he’s continued to strive for in all of his work.

Randall lives in Los Angeles and works as an animator, motion graphic artist and designer while making original films.

Always forward-thinking, the studio leverages AI in post-production to benefit projects.

Lucien is a VFX-supervisor for 2D/3D animation, design, and experiential projects. But he's not just about work; he's a man of diverse experiences. An avid sailor, Lucien enjoys racing and family overnights on Chesapeake Bay or Hudson River. He's a pilot, a DJ, and in the '80s, taught himself to solve the Rubik's Cube.

Besides being an actor, Charles stepped behind the camera, producing (with his C. L. Squared Productions partner, Chelsea LeSage) and writing the award-winning vampire feature, Theresa + Allison, as well as writing, directing, and co-producing the cult hit webseries (that later found its way to Amazon), 21st Century Demon Hunter, based off the novel of the same title he had written and starring Chelsea. Georgiana Noopy Rodrigues celebrates her mother Rose Marie

Georgiana Noopy Rodrigues celebrates her mother Rose Marie

On today's episode we talk with Georgiana Rodrigues, otherwise known as Noopy, about both her mother's centennial celebration, Rose Marie Sings, as well her own stint in the world of production.

The estate of Rose Marie launched a centennial celebration honoring the star of stage, screen, radio and television whose career spanned 90 years from Baby Rose Marie in vaudeville, to Sally Rogers on The Dick Van Dyke Show, to the top center square in The Hollywood Squares and the subject of the acclaimed documentary “Wait For Your Laugh.”

The celebration began with release of ROSE MARIE SINGS: THE COMPLETE MERCURY RECORDINGS & MORE from Sepia Records in association with the Rose Marie estate. Among the 29 classic recordings and rarities are favorite showtunes, standards and novelty songs – all available on compact disc for the first time. Some may only know Rose Marie as the comedienne from “The Dick Van Dyke Show” who occasionally sang, and not realize that she started in the business as a singer with her own radio show at the age of three. For decades prior to her television stardom she was primarily known as a singer opening Las Vegas, headlining the top nightclubs, and performing with the country’s best musicians.

Rose Marie’s daughter, Georgiana “Noopy” Guy Rodrigues, elaborates: “Just in time to celebrate her centennial year, we’re so happy to finally have a compilation of my mother’s music which her fans have been requesting for years.” In addition to her Mercury recordings dating to the 1940s and 1950s, there are many exciting and previously unreleased songs from her personal archives from her early career on radio and into the 1960s after she became a big television star. Mother accomplished so much in her long, amazing career in show business from childhood into her 90s. She loved her fans and would be thrilled to know that we’re still being responsive to them and continuing the conversations she started when she was three,” exclaims Rodrigues.

With several years of experience in production, she has worked in various production roles ranging from production assistant to director. Raihven is a proficient organizer and has produced several successful productions. Her roles include location scouting, talent casting, and freelance hiring, among others. This film begins with the main character, Jayla, living out her wildest dreams in front of the person she owes it all to, her grandmother, Bell. Jayla is awakened by a blistering fire alarm, or in this case the harsh reality that her dream will never come to fruition. As the sole caretaker of her ill but immensely talented grandmother, Jayla is forced to fight harder than she ever has to achieve what she and her grandmother have worked so hard for. With her grandmother's illness progressing and time running out on her scholarship, Jayla has no choice but to place her grandmother in a nursing home as she heads to the school of her dreams. Much like everything in the young musician's life, this joyous and prestigious occasion is met with great difficulty and challenge. She battles with her family, systematic processes and herself until she breaks.

Julie Rogers Pomilia - On Growing Up As the Granddaughter of Roy Rogers & Dale Evans

In this episode we have a nice chat with Julie Rodgers Pomilia, the author of the first book ever by a Roy Rogers and Dale Evans family member to chronicle the lives of the "Royal Western Couple," from the distinctive perspective of being their grandchild.

We knew them as our heroes, but she knew them as simply, Grandma and Grandpa. Having lived through the 50’s and 60’s at the height of their popularity, and on into these current times when few people under the age of 50 remember them more as historic figures that had a great impact on American culture.

They were the Brad and Angelina of the 50’s, before it was in vogue. Being the youngest daughter of Dale Evans’ only biological son, Julie shares from personal experience, the love and acceptance her grandparents exuded as they adopted five children from different walks of life and cultures. Combining “yours, mine, and ours, step, adopted and foster” making nine total.

The author shares unique insights about what it was like living with her famous grandparents. Today, Roy and Dale are still relatable, and their granddaughter’s heartwarming experiences transcend time and generational differences.
