John 1, verse 41: that Andrew “found his . . . brother Simon and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah' (which means Christ).” Messiah. Christ. This is what the Jews were expecting.

the Samaritan woman at the well

    John 4

25The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

    Jesus to his disciples

    Matthew 16

15“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven

    To the high priest

    Mark 14

61…Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 63The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64“You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”

    1 Peter 1

9for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.10Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,11trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. New Testament Preaching

“Saul . . . confounded the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus was the Christ” (Acts 9:22)

Acts 18 (28) you read about Apollos who “powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures [And what Scriptures would those have been? The Old Testament] that the Christ was Jesus” (v. 28).

    The Ethiopian Eunuch

God’s anointed one—is a core tenet of our Christian faith.

Our faith is based on fact not fiction

Court of law—the evidence is overwhelming

    • Professor Peter Stoner used the mathematical principle called the Law of Compound Probability , to assess some of the prophecies relating to Christ.
    • He used it to calculate the odds against a chance; fulfillment of such predictions when compounded by a specific set of conditions, requirements, or qualifications.
    • His findings were carefully evaluated by the American Scientific Affiliation, and were found to be sound and convincing .
    • By this method, he was able to show evidence that would rule out coincidence, chance or human manipulation in the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

    Chance fulfillment of biblical prophecy

    • Stoner started by calculating the probability of 1 individual who could precisely fulfill only 8 prophecies relating to Christ. He computed the odds at 1 in 10 17 . That’s 1 chance in 100,000,000,000,000,000 opportunities.
    • This is like covering the entire state of Texas 2 feet deep in silver dollars, marking 1 of them, and telling a blind man to pick the marked silver dollar on the 1st try.
    • That’s 8 prophecies

    fact not fiction

    • Stoner then computed the odds of 1 individual that could fulfill just 48 prophecies relating to Christ. He calculated the odds at 1 X 10 157 . Those odds are beyond human comprehension.
    • But we know Jesus Christ fulfilled 332 distinct prophecies!

God’s Word is true. God has gone great lengths to give us "many convincing truths”

Court of law—the evidence is overwhelming

    WHY IS JESUS REJECTED TODAY??

    • Jesus does not fit in there box.---Puppet Messiah –genie
    • Threat to their power
    • Many prefer a lie to the truth
    • For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear 2 Tim 4:3 (NIV)

God keeps His promises! Now He doesn’t always do it in the way or the time that we would expect.

    John 20

30Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

    Philippians 2:10-11 (NASB)

10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ ( The Messiah ) is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Gambler - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 101

    The Gambler

John is taking a short break from the series on the names of Jesus to share this special message with you. This is a sermon John preached at the Pilot Point Church of Christ.

These are the things in which people are gambling their souls.

    The following is an outline.

That the goodness of God is all there is to God

22Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. Romans 11

30For we know Him who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” 31It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hebrews 10

4“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him! Luke 12

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. Mat 25:41

And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Mat 25:46

That you can offer God something other than perfection

Therefore, you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48

That saving faith is just a mental assent

Believe in Greek (present continual tense verb)

    1. Believing the facts accepting the truth.
    2. Believing in (trust and obey)
    3. Continuing go on believing (faith & faithfulness) John 20:31 Greek (present continual tense)

    1 John 1

7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

That salvation is just for an elected few

    Jesus Our Advocate

1 John 2: 1-2  My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

John 3 36Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

John 3 16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The Names and Titles of Jesus –  The Son of Man Episode 100

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is ninth in the series. The following is an outline.

What name or title did Jesus purposely call himself more than any other?

The Son of Man- Jesus chose that title to refer to himself 50 times, not counting the times it is repeated in the gospel

Son of Man = ben Adam = son of a Human

    Son of God = Divine

The Son of Man= human----Jesus was the 2nd Adam-----God called Ezekiel “son of man” 90 times

    1) no article
    2) Ezekiel was a typology of Jesus-80 parallels Johns Rev

    Who is the Antichrist?

Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh; any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist! 2 John 1:7

The Son of Man title is so much more than Christ was human

    Dan 2

40And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. 41And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 42And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. 44And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. 45Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

Dan 7 12As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. 13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

27And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

    1. In the days of the fourth kingdom, the Roman Empire The Son of Man will come who is the Messiah.
      2. The Son of Man will establish a kingdom that will destroy all other kingdoms and be an everlasting kingdom
      3. The Son of Man kingdom will come into existence when he ascends into heaven/comes to the ancient of days = God and sits on his throne
      4. We learn from other prophecies that when he comes he will do away with sacrificial system/which means the destruction of the Temple and create a new covenant
      5. The Son of Man will become the judge of all the earth/all other kingdoms and their inhabitants.
      6. The Son of Man kingdom will not be destroyed nor will The Son of Man Be destroyed
    Phase 1

Jesus comes to earth calling himself The Son of Man and God bearing witness with miracles. – 50 times without counting duplication.
Jesus comes proclaiming the kingdom is at hand.
Jesus explains the nature of the inhabitants of the kingdom and the nature of the kingdom itself parable after parable – Many of these explanations are totally contrary to what they believed Daniel taught about the Son of Man and the coming kingdom.

    Phase 2

Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what the Jews believed about The Son of Man. The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God.

Luke 5 The Son of Man is Devine

17And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. 19And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. 20And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. 21And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? 22But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? 23Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? 24But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. 25And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

Luke 12 The Son of Man is Devine

5Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? 6But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. 7But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. 14Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him

John 9 Son of Man is the Son of God and divine

34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. 35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. 38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

Son of Man is the son of God and divine

He receives worship from human beings.
    He's worshiped as a baby
Matthew eight is worshiped by the leper
Matthew nine he's worshiped by the woman
    Matthew 15 he's worshiped
Matthew 28 is worship by the disciples
Revelation 5 is worshiped in heaven by the heavenly host
    He's worshiped in John 9:35

    Phase 2

Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what they believed about The Son of Man.

    1. The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God.
      2. The Son of Man who is the Messiah and God in the flesh is going to die.

    Matthew 16

13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
21From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

Luke 18:31Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
Luke 9:44Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
Luke 18:31Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

John 12 King James Version (KJV)

23And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 32And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33This he said, signifying what death he should die. 34The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth forever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

    Phase 2

Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what they believed about The Son of Man .

    1. The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God.
The son of man who is the Messiah and God in the flesh is going to die.
    Phase 3

His ascension and glorification and receiving a kingdom because of his death, burial and resurrection The Son of Man at His ascension is glorified and received the  kingdom

    Son of Man Daniel 7

13“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

The ascension of The Son of Man

John 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
Mat 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Act 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God

    Phase 2

Jesus begins to lay the bombshells that will destroy most of what they believed about The Son of Man .

    1. The Son of Man is not just the Messiah, He is God.
The son of man who is the Messiah and God in the flesh is going to die.
    Phase 3

The Son of Man at His ascension and glorification and receiving a kingdom because of his death, burial and resurrection The Son of Man at His ascension is glorified and received the  kingdom

    Phase 4

The Son of Man is now the Judge of all humanity

John 5 :27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man

    Matthew 26

57Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. 59The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.  Finally, two came forward 61and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’” 62Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” 64“You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[e] 65Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.66What do you think?” “He is worthy of death,” they answered. • 67Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68and said, “Prophecy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

    SO WHAT!

    Hebrews 4

14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[f] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The Names and Titles of Jesus –  I Am the True Vine Episode 99

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the eighth in the series. The following is an outline.

    I Am the True Vine

    John 15 (NIV)

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. • 5“ I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. 6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

"Under the crown– work was spread out a golden vine, with its branches hanging down from a great height, the largeness and the workmanship of which were an astonishing sight to the spectators" (Antiquities of the Jews, 5.5.4).

31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.

    ISERAL GOD’S VINE

Genesis 49:22 Jacobs blessing to Joseph

Isaiah 5 A love affair between God and His Vineyard the nation of Israel

    Isaiah 5 Something went wrong!

Isaiah 27: 6 He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

Hosea 10:1 “Israel empties his vine; He brings forth fruit for himself…”

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,  and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

    A Shadow

    THE TRUE VINE

    John 15

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me 5“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 12“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Good Shepherd Episode 98

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the seventh in the series. The following is an outline.

THE NAMES AND TITLES OF JESUS

    John 10

    I Am the Good Shepherd
    I Am the True Shepherd
    I Am the Door

    Understanding the Shepherd

His job was a dirty and dangerous one. Many times, all the shepherd had to fight off lions and other wild animals was a staff with a crook. He willingly put his life on the line for his flock. At night, he would put the flock in a makeshift pen that had only one way in and out. Day and night Communal pin in town He knew each one of his sheep—inspected them—he gave each one a name—He loved them like we love our pets—His sheep loved their shepherd They knew what he did for them and they knew his voice Abraham – Isaac – Jacob – Moses – David

    David the Shepherd

Ps 78:70-72; He also chose David His servant And took him from the sheepfolds; 71From the care of the ewes with suckling lambs. He brought him To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. 72So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart And guided them with his skillful hands.

    The True Shepherd

God was The Shepherd that all other shepherds of God’s people represented
Ps 80: 1 Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!
The Messiah would be the True Shepherd

Throughout the Old Testament, you have some promises of a shepherd yet to come

Matthew 2:6, which is a quote from Micah 5 in the Old Testament:  And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you [Bethlehem] shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel (v. 2).  And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, [Who shall dwell secure? The sheep] for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth

    I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD

John 10:6 This figure of speech = not a Parable, a Parable is like something ie sower, hidden treasure etc.—Jesus is the door Jesus is The Good Shepherd. It is not just a figure of speech or a comparison, but a saying that is loaded with significance--the verbal equivalent of Jesus' signs. This picture is not so much an allusion of Ezekiel 34 as a development from it.

Ezekiel 34:23-24 23“Then I will set over them one shepherd, My servant David, and he will feed them; he will feed them himself and be their shepherd. 24And I, the LORD, will be their God, and My servant David will be prince among them; I the LORD have spoken.

    Context of John 10:

John chapters 9 and 10 belong  together The Pharisees self-appointed shepherds of God’s flock - were putting people out of the temple who believed in Jesus—plotted to kill Jesus – they tried to kill  him twice ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Woe, shepherds of Israel Ezk 34 Jer 32“Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!” declares the LORD. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; All who came before Me are thieves and robbers a hired hand,…He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep.

John 10 10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them. • 7So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and [a]have it abundantly.

11“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. 12He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, 15even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father, and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice, and they will become one flock with one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father loves Me because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”

I lay down My life for the sheep

But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our [i]well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging, we are healed. 6All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way, But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him. Isaiah 53

1 Peter 2:24-25 24and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. 25For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

John 10 9A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words.20Many of them were saying, “He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?” 21Others were saying, “These are not the sayings of one demon-possessed. A demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?” 22At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; 23it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. 24The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.26But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. 27My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30I and the Father are one.”

31The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. 32Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.” 34Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I SAID, YOU ARE GODS’? 35If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may [f]know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” 39Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Bread of Life Episode 97

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the sixth in the series. The following is an outline.

    I AM ἐγώ εἰμι

    Exodus 3:14
    God's name

“Give us this day our daily bread”

    Jesus feeding the 5000
    1. A completely different Understanding of what bread
      2. The sign of the feeding of the 5000
      3. The background of the Jewish culture where God feed their ancestors with mana every day to sustain them
Jesus is the true Bread of God that gives life because

1.He is the true Mana from God

Context: 24when the people, therefore, saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. 25And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?”

    John 6

26Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
28Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” 30Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? 31Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
32Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

    Isaiah 55:1

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.
37All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me but raise them up at the last day.

Jesus is the true Bread of God that gives life because
    1. He is the true Mana from God
      2. He does the will of the Father

40For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
41At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”43“Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
45It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God. ‘Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46No one has seen the Father except for the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48I am the bread of life.

Jesus is the true Bread of God that gives life because
    1. He is the true Manna from God
      2. He does the will of the Father
      3. He gave His life so we can have eternal life

49Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
52Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Something must die for me to live

60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”
61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe.”

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus the Resurrection and Life - Episode 96

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the fifth in the series. The following is an outline.

    The Black Death

    In May of 1664-600

    June of 1665 -6000

one month later it was 17,000

    August alone, 31,000 died

By the time it was over about 70,000 people had died.

Ring around the roses, a pocket full of posies, Ashes, ashes, we all fall down

    Death

    Genesis 3:19
By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

    Ecclesiastes 7:2
He says, …death is the destiny of every man
Romans 5:12 God used Paul to tell us, Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and so death…  [like an uncontainable plague] spread to all men, because all sinned…

    We ALL FALL DOWN
    We are all terminally ill

We can’t study death or observe it or try it out to see how it feels

Jesus had a lot to say about this enemy we all face. In fact, in His response to the death of his friend Lazarus, Jesus uttered another of His I am… statements…a statement that provides us with the answers the questions we all have when it comes to facing the inevitable end of our lives.

Perea, a two-day journey from Bethany - they just let Him know of Lazarus’ illness and assumed that He would come quickly

It took two days for the messenger to go from Bethany to Perea. Jesus tarried two more days in Perea after hearing of Lazarus’ illness. Two additional days were required for Him to reach Bethany. So the four days following the arrival of the messenger in Perea correspond to the four days Lazarus had lain in his tomb. That means as omniscient God in the flesh, Jesus knew His friend was already dead when He received the news from Bethany

    Funerals

As many people as possible attended these events

    The women mourners walked first

Deep mourning lasted for seven days during this week -it was forbidden to anoint oneself, to put on shoes, to engage in any kind of study or business and even to wash

Thirty additional days of lighter mourning when some of these restrictions were lifted

    John 11

Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you (vv. 21–22)

Jesus [says] to her, "Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day” (vv. 23–24)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die [looking at Lazarus who had just died] yet shall he live, and everyone who lives [Martha, Mary, your friends, everyone who lives] and believes in me shall never die” (vv. 25–26)

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him (John 3:36).

For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will . . . Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment but has passed from death to life.

    Philippians 1:21-22

    21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.22But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;

To depart and be with Christ for that is very much better and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die

LET’S PARTY WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

18He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” 21At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. Luke 10

    We ALL FALL DOWN

    1 Corinthians 15

25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live (vv. 21, 24–25)

For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. . .  Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment (vv. 26, 28–29)

    Resurrection of mortal body

    Romans 8:10-1

If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

    Philippians 3:20-21

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

55“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

    1Cr 15:35-38

But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come? “You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own

    2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-17

Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,

    Romans 8:17-18

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Light of the World

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Light of the World

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Light
of the World - Episode 95

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the fourth in the series. The following is an outline.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it. 6There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

    Jesus THE LOGOS

HE IS THE REASON WHY FOR EVERYTHING

    Colossians 1:16
For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.

    Jesus The Word = Logos

    Light - Life - Truth

Jesus the Light of the World

    1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

    Psalm 36:9
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

    1 Timothy 6:16
He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen

Nothing is a coincidence with God – everything he's created can all be traced back to Jesus the

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome

Throughout the Old Testament, we have this promise of a great light that comes into the world and would push back the darkness of the world.

    Prophecies

    Isaiah chapter 9
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone” (v. 2).

In Isaiah 49 God says in relation to Messiah, the Servant of the Lord, He said: “I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth” (v. 6).

Isaiah 60: Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord [Jehovah] will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you (vv. 1–2).

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the Only-begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus the light of the World

    John 1:18
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side [Jesus, the Logos/Word of God], he has made him known.

    2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," [that God who spoke in Genesis 1] has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God [how?] in the face of Jesus Christ [the Logos, the Word].

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, [d] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing … His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

    Philippians 2
15so that you will [i]prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you [j]appear as [k]lights in the world,

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE LIGHT ARE THE GLORY OF GOD

    John chapter 1: 6-13

    • Jesus the light of the world and the glory of God
    • God is zealous for his glory
    • The heavens declare the glory of God
    • The sun is our light by day that warms, lightens and gives us life
    • The moon gives us a testimony of the light of the sun with its reflection
    • That brings me to John's statement about John the Baptizer not being the light but a reflection of the glory of the true light Jesus Christ

    John the Baptist

    Matthew 11:11
Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist;…

    • John the Baptist The light and Glory
    • John contrasted to Jesus
    • Jesus was in the beginning with God – John was sent from God
    • Jesus was God – John was a man
    • Jesus was the light – John was a reflection of the light
    • Jesus was the fulfillment of the law and prophets –John terminated the prophets and law

God has called us not just to survive in this world, but to be light that pushes back the darkness

    • Jesus is the Light of the world
    • He’s the “Star come out of Jacob” that we read about in Numbers 24:17
    • He’s the sun of righteousness risen with healing in His wings in Malachi 4:2
    • He’s the One that John saw in Revelation 1:16 whose face was like the sun shining in full strength.
    • He’s the bright morning star we read about in Revelation 22:16.

The Lamb, the Light of the world

One day He will return. There will be one final great sunrise. And then there will be no more sunrises. We read in Revelation 21 about the new Jerusalem. This city “has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb [the Lamb, the Light of the world] and [the] gates [of that city] will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there” (vv. 21–23).

As I studied this lesson on Jesus is light and in that light His life studied light itself the sun for instance gives us son gives us life and it is pure energy of God never does anything by coincidence the word is not even in the Hebrew language and so the sun is shoo-in that gives us life is also unapproachable if we got close to it we would be destroyed and so it is with God Timothy said he lives in unapproachable light no man can approach God and live

    Facts about Light

    • The human eye sees specific areas of the spectrum, but other animals and insects can actually see parts of the spectrum that we can’t.
    • Light travels in a vacuum at 300,000 km per second (186,000 miles per second).
    • Space does not have any light. We can see things in space due to light bouncing off of the objects in space.
    • Light is used by plants to convert the light into energy as their ‘food’. The process is called ‘photosynthesis’ and converts carbon dioxide through the energy of the light.

The Gospel – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 94

This episode is for anyone interested in Christianity or wanting to hear the gospel. The following is an outline for the podcast.

    The Gospel

    Mark 16: 15 & 16

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.

    Romans 1:16

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

    What is the Gospel?

    Gospel / GOOD NEWS

    1. What God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ.
    2. What God is doing through our Lord Jesus Christ.
    3. What God will do for us through our Lord Jesus Christ.
    Outline of the Bible
    1. Man has made a terrible mess out of his life.
    2. God has done great things for us.
    3. Here’s how you can get in on it.

    Sin Problem ~ Legal Problem

    Rom 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God;

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death. One Sin

1Cr 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; One Sting

    God’s holiness

    Ps. 130:3

It all comes back to our understanding of the character of God. If God is holy, and He measures my sin against His holiness, it would be impossible to even balance the scales. David said, “If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?”

    Debt

    James 2:10

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in on point, he is guilty of all.

    Isaiah 64:6

    For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment;
And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away

For the wages of sin is death.
    1. Sin Problem
      2. Grave Problem
      3. Life Problem

    John 1:1,14

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Incarnation God became flesh: So what!

He was fathered by the Holy Spirit, his mother was a human being, therefore, his value was more than the entire human race.

    The Cross

    II Corinthians 5:21

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

    The Resurrection So What!

For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection

Grave Problem: Answered at the Resurrection

    Romans 8:34

“Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:34

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

    Be baptized

Rom 6:1-14 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

Rom 6:2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Rom 6:3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Rom 6:4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Rom 6:5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection:

Rom 6:6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

The Names and Titles of Jesus – Jesus The Word/Logos

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the second in the series. The following is an outline.

Exodus 33 :20 But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.“

1 Timothy 6:16 He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen. 18No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

    Jesus the Word

    1. Pre-existent
    2. Co-existent
    3. Self-existent

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1Co 1:24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God

Col 1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation

Heb 1:6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God's angels worship him.

22“The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works,[c][d] before his deeds of old; 23I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. 24When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water; 25before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, 26before he made the world or its fields or any of the dust of the earth. 27I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, 28when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, 29when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. 30 Then I was constantly[e] at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, 31rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. 32“Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. 33Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. 34Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. 35For those who find me find life and receive favor from the LORD. 36But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.”

    Predetermined Counsel of God.

Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,

1Pe 1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake

7No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began

    The Wisdom of God

7No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The Word = Logos is the name of Jesus Reason Why

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Jews understood that the Logos, the Word of God, was God revealing Himself, God creating, God acting, God alive in His creation

Targum Aramaic translation of the Hebrew Bible. (Yahweh)
Aramaic term that means “the word.” It’s the word memra.

Greek Septuagint memra “the word.” translation logos in Greek for example, in Genesis 15: “After this, the word [logos] of the Lord came to Abram in a vision.” Psalm 33, verse 6: “By the word [by the logos] of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”

Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”

-The apostle John is the only New Testament author to call Jesus “the Word.” He does so in the Gospel of John, and in his first Epistle of John, and also, as we’ll see, in the book of Revelation.

-When he talks about the “Word,” that’s the Greek word logos. So when you see the “Word,” that’s the logos.

John said 4 things about the Word Logos
    1. His Eternity
      2. His Personality
      3. His Deity
      4. His Humanity

    2 Problems
    1. Too high a view of John
      2. Too low a view of Jesus

    More divine than human?
    More human than divine?
    Partly human, partly divine?
    Fully human, fully divine!

The Incarnation of the Word of Life

    1 John 1 (NIV)
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

    THE WORD

I AM  (Yahweh) = LORD = “the word.” It’s the word memra= logos in Greek
Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, John infused this word with a richer, fuller meaning-- not an impersonal force but a person, God made flesh.
Jesus was God’s mirror, God’s way of making Himself known to His creation. The definition of a word
John 1:18,No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side [Jesus, the Logos/Word of God], he has made him known.
2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," [that God who spoke in Genesis 1] has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God [how?] in the face of Jesus Christ [the Logos, the Word].

Revelation 19:12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word Logos of God..

The Names and Titles of Jesus – The Name Above Every Name Jesus - Episode  92

This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the second in the series. The following is an outline.

    Philippians 2
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

    THE GREAT I AM

    The name of GOD YHVH

Exodus 3;15 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM”: and he said, “Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”
YHVH YHVH LORD = YHVH (Adonai) Lord = Master (Adonai)
    GOD= YHVH God= (Elohim) EL = short
    Jehovah = YHVH
    Yahweh = YHVH
    YAH = YHVH
Exd 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Yahushua ַ הוֹשׁוּﬠ ְ•1 The first element is YAH, which is the commonly accepted abbreviated form of YHVH

2 The interesting word group that starts with YAH then the Hebrew verb (shua), meaning to be saved or delivered.

Yahshua is the name Joshua is a compilation of two elements.

Isa 12:2 Behold, God [is] my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; 'For YAH, the LORD, [is] my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ “ Yahushua ַ הוֹשׁוּﬠ ְ =י I AM the I AM that saves

Numbers 13:7 These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)

Yahushua יְהוֹשׁוּעַ = I AM the I AM that saves

    Zech 6:11

    Matthew 22:31-32

The name that you give to your child may not determine his or her destiny, but the name that was given to our Lord was a part of his destiny.
Jesus. That name reveals us why He came to this earth. It sums up His mission, His purpose, His destiny.

    Jehovah saves. Jehovah is salvation

We cannot save ourselves. We need a Rescuer. We need a Deliverer. We need a Savior. That’s why the angel said, “You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21). Jehovah saves. Jehovah is salvation.

How did Jesus save us from our sin?
“Jesus,” that common name from the Hebrew “Joshua”—“Jehovah saves.”

But now, here is Jesus hanging on cross, dying as a common criminal. This is why people said, “If He truly saves, let Him save Himself.”

    Joshua, Yahushua Jesus

    1. Jesus is God revealing God in our humanity

    2. Jesus is is our covenant God

    3. Jesus is God revealing our destiny

Luke 24:26 remission of sins is preached in his name
John 20:31 that you might have life in his name
Romans 10: 9 whosoever called upon his name
Acts 4 by what power you heal this man by the name of Jesus
Acts 9:27 we preach boldly in his name
Matthew 28 :18 by his authority make disciples – We are baptized into the name

It all comes back to the name the final revelation of God in Jesus Christ our Joshua – Yahshua

The Names and Titles of Jesus -Jesus the Great I Am - Episode 91

This new series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. The following is an outline.

Jesus – Name Above Every Name

God, spirit filled podcast, bible study

    God

    1. God (Elohim) is the plural of EL – “in the beginning, God created the heavens and earth” Genesis 1:1

    2. God (Elohim) = A term describing essence

    3. The name of GOD YHVH Exodus 3:15 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM”: and he said, “Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”

9 Now, therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
10 Come now, therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

unutterable name, God, spirit filled podcast, Bible study

“It is to be God’s name forever, my memorial unto all generations” see Exodus 3:15-16

Exd 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Psa 72:17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and [men] shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

YHVH appears 6800 times in the Old Testament. But it’s not translated YHVH LORD = YHVH (Adonai) Lord = Master (Adonai)

    GOD= YHVH   God= (Elohim)  EL = short
    Jehovah = YHVH
    Yahweh = YHVH
    YAH = YHVH

Exd 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless who takes His name in vain. I AM = eternal

Micah 5:2 states that Israel's Messiah would come from Bethlehem, and He is described as He "whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." This states not only His preexistence but the fact that He has existed from eternity.

The term "from everlasting" is, according to A.R. Fausset, "the strongest assertion of infinite duration of which the Hebrew language is capable."1 The term is also used in Psalm 90:2.

    Psalm 90:2
Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

In Isaiah 9:6, Israel's Messiah is described as the "everlasting Father" or, as it is better rendered, "Father of eternity". This also points to His existence from eternity past.

John 5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
39You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; 40and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

YHVH YHVH LORD = YHVH (Adonai) Lord = Master (Adonai)

    LORD = YHVH (Adonai)

    Lord = Master (Adonai)

    GOD= YHVH   God= (Elohim) EL = short

    Jehovah = YHVH

    Yahweh = YHVHYAH = YHVH

    Yahushua הוֹשׁוּﬠְי
1 The first element is YAH, which is the commonly accepted abbreviated form of YHVH

    2) The interesting word group that starts with YAH then the Hebrew verb (shua), meaning to be saved or delivered.

Yahshua is the name Joshua is a compilation of two elements.

Isa 26:3 You will keep [him] in perfect peace, [Whose] mind [is] stayed [on You], Because he trusts in You.

Isa 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, [is] everlasting strength.

Isa 12:2 Behold, God [is] my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; 'For YAH, the LORD, [is] my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ “

Yahushua הוֹשׁוּﬠְ י  I AM the I AM that saves

    Who am l?

Exodus 3:15 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”

Jehovah -Jireh (I AM Will Provide) Genesis 22:13,14

Jehovah -Raah (I AM My Shepherd) Psalm 23:1 Jehovah - Rapha (I AM That Heals) Exodus15:26

Jehovah - Nissi (I AM My Banner) Exodus 17:15

Jehovah - Shalom (I AM our Peace) Judges 6:24

    Our Righteousness.

Jer 23:5 "Behold, the days are coming," declares the LORD, "When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land.

Jer 23:6 "In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell securely; And this is His name by which He will be called, 'The LORD (I AM) our righteousness.'

Welcome to Mount Zion – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 90

Welcome to Mount Zion – Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 90

This is the 23rd and last class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

    Welcome to Mount Zion

    Preservation of the saints

    Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

    • True faith will enable us to run the race of life. Hebrews chapter 12:1-4
    • True faith understands God's discipline is not contrary to God's love Hebrews chapter 12:5-14
    • True faith understands the imperative to live holy Hebrews chapter 12:14-17
    • True faith chooses the right mountain Hebrews chapter 12:18-28

18You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”

    Hebrews 12

22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

    Hebrews 12

25See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”27The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. 28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our “God is a consuming fire.”

    Concluding Exhortations and Application

    Hebrews chapter 13

    Outline Hebrews 13:1-6

    Application – be loving

    1. Be loving to the brethren - verse 1
    2. Be loving to those who are strangers - verse 2
    3. Be loving to those who are persecuted - verse 3
    4. Be loving to your companions - verse 4
    5. Be loving in a positive and negative way - verses 5-6

    Hebrews 13

13 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. 4Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” 7Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so. 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat. 11The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. 15Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. 17 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

    Benediction and Final Greetings

18 Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. 19 I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.

20Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 22Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly. 23I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you. 24Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people. Those from Italy send you their greetings. 25Grace be with you all.

Eph 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

    NOTHING

    The incarnation is good news!

1.Good news because it gives us physical life.

John 1:1, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

2.Good news because it gives us eternal life.

He was fathered by the Holy Spirit, his mother was a human being therefore his value was more than the entire human race.

The cross only has meaning because of who it was that was on it .

1Cr 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

1Cr 6:10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

1Cr 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

2Cr 11:2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin •

Born again with a new identity

2Cr 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Col 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

1Jo 4:17…because as he is, so are we in this world.

Eph 2:6and raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus

3.Good news because it gives us a perfect High Priest.

Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him

    Perfect Mediator

Gal 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. One Mediator Gal 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

    1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Hbr2:17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

Hbr2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 4 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The Incarnation God became flesh: good news!

The Response of Faith - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 88

The Response of Faith - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 88

This is the 22nd class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

    The Response of Faith

    Preservation of the saints

    Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

    Hebrews 11

39And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

Faith will enable us to run the race of life.

    Hebrews chapter 12:1-4

    Hebrews 12

1.Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
    2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
    3. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
    4. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

Faith understands God's discipline is not contrary to God's love

    Hebrews chapter 12:5-14

    Hebrews 12

5And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, 6because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” 7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.

    Hebrews 12

9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. 12Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13“Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

Faith understands the Imperative to live holy

    Hebrews chapter 12:14-17

    Hebrews 12

14Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord. 15See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. 17Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.

Trusting God - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 87

Trusting God - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 87

This is the 20th class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

    Preservation of the Saints

    Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

    Hebrews chapter 11

0ne point, have faith in God and be patience and He will give you all that He has promised.

A persevering faith is always rewarded VS. 1-40

    Hebrews 11

The first and second verses and the sixth verse, taken together, help define faith for us. Here we see the ingredients of faith:
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old received divine approval. (Hebrews 11:1-2 RSV)
And without faith it is impossible to please God. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 RSV)

    Hebrews 11(NASB)

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction ofthings not seen. 2For by it the men of old gained approval.

    THE HEART OF BIBLICAL FAITH
    CONVICTION

    Hebrews 11

By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he received approval as righteous, God bearing witness by accepting his gifts; he died, but through his faith he is still speaking. (Hebrews 11:4 RSV)
Cain believe a lie. – That one way is as good as another
Abel believed God and came the way God had outlined

    Hebrews 11

By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, took heed and constructed an ark for the saving of his household; by this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness which comes by faith. (Hebrews 11:7 RSV)

    Three distinctive descriptions of Abraham
    1. Abraham was called God's friend.

James 2:23(KJV) 23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
    2. Abraham is the father of all who believes Romans 4:11-12  11And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: 12And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
    3. Abraham is a figure of true faith. Hebrews 11:8 -12, 17 through 19

    Hebrews 11

8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.  Genesis 12 (NIV)  12 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2“ I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.[a] 3I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”[b] 4So Abram went, as the LORD had told him

8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9By faith he made his home in the Promised Land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she[b] considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

13All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. 14People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

17By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; 18it was he to whom it was said, “IN ISAAC YOUR [n]DESCENDANTS SHALL BE CALLED.” 19 [o]He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back [p]as a type 20By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come. 21By faith Jacob, as he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff. 22By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave orders concerning his bones.

23By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 24By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26considering the reproach of [q]Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. 27By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen. 28By faith he [r]kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that he who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them. 29By faith they passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were [s]drowned.

30By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. 31By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies [t]in peace. 32And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, 33who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, 34quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

35Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their [u]release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; 36and others [v]experienced mockings and scourging’s, yes, also chains and imprisonment. 37They were stoned, they were sawn in two, [w]they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated 38(men of whom the world was not worthy),wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes [x]in the ground.

39And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

Do Not Throw Away Your Confidence, Which Has A Great Reward - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 86

Do Not Throw Away Your Confidence, Which Has A Great Reward - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 86

This is the 20th class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

Do Not Throw Away Your Confidence, Which Has A Great Reward
    Preservation of the Saints

    Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

    Hebrews 10

32Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. 33Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions

    James 1

2Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [h]without reproach, and it will be given to him.

    Hebrews 10

32Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. 33Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions 35Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

    Hebrews 10

37For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.”[38And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” 39But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

    Hebrews 11

0ne point, have faith in God and be patience and He will give you all that He has promised.

A persevering faith is always rewarded

    VS. 1-40

Things that are called faith but are not.
    1. Faith, is not positive thinking
      2. Faith is not a hunch that is followed.
      3. Faith is not hoping for the best, hoping that everything will turn out all right.
      4. Faith is not a feeling of optimism

    Hebrews 11

    • The first and second verses and the sixth verse, taken together, help define faith for us. Here we see the ingredients of faith:
    • Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old received divine approval. (Hebrews 11:1-2 RSV)
    • And without faith it is impossible to please God. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 RSV)
    Definition of faith in God
    1. Faith commences with "things hoped for," that is, it starts with a sense of discontent.
      2. Then comes "the conviction of things not seen" aware that we are surrounded by an invisible spirit kingdom, that which is seen is not the whole explanation of life,
      3. "He that comes to God must believe that he is, that God exists." There are some who say, "That's the hard part, that's what is difficult." No, it is not.
      4. "The assurance of things hoped for." achieved by acting on the revelation of the things unseen.
      5. By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear. (Hebrews 11:3 RSV)
The amazing deductions & implications and of Biblical faith
    • By faith, we understand that the world was created by the word of God so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear. (Hebrews 11:3 RSV)--- That statement was made in the first century.
      • Biblical faith puts us immediately in touch with reality. Faith is a way of piercing the illusion that tends to distract us and lead us into chasing rabbits of thought all over the pasture and bring us right to the point, to show us things as they really are. Do not laugh at faith. Faith is dealing with facts. Faith grounds one immediately on reality.
Grounds one immediately in reality. What science can't tell us, faith can.
    1. How human history is going to end, but by faith, I know.
      2. Science cannot tell me what is wrong with human life, what is the reason why I act the way I do, and you act the way you do but by faith I know.
      3. Cannot tell me what lies beyond the door of death. Even to the scientists, it is an enigma, a mystery, but by faith, I know what lies beyond. Mystery, but by faith I know what lies beyond.
      4. Cannot explain the mysteries of my own makeup, and tell me how to fulfill my manhood, how to realize my dreams, but faith can.

    Hebrews 11(NASB)

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2For by it the men of old gained approval.

    THE HEART OF BIBLICAL FAITH
    CONVICTION

    Hebrews 11

By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death; and he was not found because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was attested as having pleased God. (Hebrews 11:5 RSV)

    Genesis 5:21-24 (NIV)

21When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah.22After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more because God took him away.

    Jude (NIV)

14Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

    Hebrews 11

By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he received approval as righteous, God bearing witness by accepting his gifts; he died, but through his faith, he is still speaking. (Hebrews 11:4 RSV)

Cain believes a lie. – That one way is as good as another

Abel believed God and came the way God had outlined

    Hebrews 11

By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, took heed and constructed an ark for the saving of his household; by this, he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness which comes by faith. 8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. He Who Promised is Faithful - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 85

He Who Promised is Faithful - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 85

This is the 19th class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

    He Who Promised is Faithful

    Hebrews 10

13waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. 14For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. 15And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, 16“THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM,” He then says, 17“AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.” 18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Anyone want to go back to Judaism???

    1. A High Priest that is impeccable
    2. A covenant that is better
    3. A better place of service
    4. A better sacrifice in every way than the old covenant
    5. And one that the Holy Spirit says will satisfy every need we have to be right with God

    Preservation of the saints

    Hebrews chapter 10:19-12:29

19Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

    1 Peter 3:21

20to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[e] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities, and powers in submission to him.

    Hebrews 10

23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

    Hebrews 10

24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, (NIV)

26For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, (KJV)

    Hebrews 10

26For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.

    Hebrews 10

28Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

    Hebrews 2

2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?

    Hebrews 10

28Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us. 30For we know the one who said, “I will take revenge. I will pay them back.” He also said, “The LORD will judge his own people.” 31It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Only the Blood of Jesus - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 84

Only the Blood of Jesus - Spirit Filled Podcast Episode 84

This is the 18th class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas.

The following is the outline of the class.

    Only the Blood of Jesus

The Son’s sacrifice is superior to the O.T. sacrifice

    Hebrews chapter 9:12-10:18

    Hebrews 10

The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. (NIV)

For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. (NASB)

In Isaiah 53, we have all the offerings listed in the work of Christ upon the cross:

    1) Burnt Offering – Isaiah 53:11; cf. Leviticus 1 Giving self to God

    2) Peace Offering – Isaiah 53:5; cf. Leviticus 3 Peace with God

    3) Sin Offering – Isaiah 53:6,10-12; cf. Leviticus 4-5 Sinful nature, sins against God

    4) Trespass Offering – Isaiah 53:5; cf. Leviticus 5:15-19; Leviticus 6:1-7 Personal sins, sins against your fellow man

    5) Meal Offering – Isaiah 53:3,10; cf. Leviticus 2 Thanks to God

    Hebrews 10

For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.  2Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins?  3But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year.  4For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

    Hebrews 10

5Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, “SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME; 6. IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE. 7.“THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME (IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME) TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’” 8After saying above, “SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them” (which are offered according to the Law),

    Hebrews 9

25Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.

    Hebrews 10

23to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

    Hebrews 9

26Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
