Ep.45: How to: Fall in Love with Sales and Marketing

When I work on sales and marketing strategies with clients, I so often hear, ‘I don’t like it”, “it’s spammy”, “people don’t want to be sold to”.

The reality is that blanket statements like this are unhelpful, there are countless sales and marketing strategies out there, some of them I hate, some of them I love, but a blanket statement like that probably means you just haven’t found the right strategy for you and your customer.

If you’re a business owner saying ‘I don’t like sales and marketing’ this episode is for you. Sales and marketing are unavoidable if you want to build a successful business.

The key is finding the strategy that feels right for you and I’m sharing how to do that in this episode with 4 steps to identify your limiting beliefs and retrain your mindset and approach to fall in love with sales and marketing.

Ep.44: How to: Create your ‘creator’ business model

Ep.44: How to: Create your ‘creator’ business model

A business model describes the rationale of how an organization creates, delivers and captures value.

There are a lot of ‘one-size fits all’ courses out there in the creator industry and that can feel challenging if those courses don’t feel right for you, it can feel like you’re doing something wrong. You need to find the way that’s right for you, the business model that’s right for you and how you can use your skillset to connect with your audience through that.

In this episode I want to give you some ‘how to’ prompts to help you gain clarity on finding, creating and developing the business model and framework which works for you and your goals.

Try to think about what would be your ideal way of generating revenue for your business and getting your message out there?

If you have a feeling that a certain business model excites you, lean into that - chances are that it’s the right model for you and you’ll end up there anyway.

Listen to this episode if you’re looking for clarity on your business model and business/life goals.

Ep.43: Are You Doing Too Much?

Ep.43: Are You Doing Too Much?

This episode is for the solopreneurs, business owners and future creators out there who are delivering products or services in the digital age.

If you’re someone with big goals and big dreams, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all your ideas and plans to support your ideal audience and create revenue. If you’re doing too many things, are you really doing them all well?

I’m a big fan of how we can all do less to achieve more and in this episode I want to talk about how we can identify if we are doing too much in our lives and our businesses and how we can focus on that ‘one thing’.

I’m sharing my tips on how to move past overwhelm, plus my Five 1’s I work through with all my clients (and myself!) to find the sweet spot with one idea or one product, before moving on to the next.

Ep.42: Reframing Productivity, with Louise Miller

Ep.42: Reframing Productivity, with Louise Miller

Louise works with busy, heart-led business owners who want to run a fulfilling business without burning out. Louise’s first-hand experience of work-related stress and anxiety towards the end of her 15-year career in professional services led her to develop a slower, more mindful approach to getting things done. She’s the calm, kind clarity queen who helps her clients get their great ideas out of their head, notebooks and scribbles and into reality, so they can have fun in their business again.

Louise really believes that slowing down and understanding what works for you and what success looks like for you is the key to leading a more fulfilling life and business.

Louise shares her journey, from having an epiphany that she would never be finished, there would always be more to do, to her reframing the idea of productivity. Instead of focusing on doing as much as possible as efficiently as possible, Louise created her own definition of creativity: doing what’s important, as efficiently as you can, so you can create space for the things you love.

She uses this and her knowledge of the slow living movement and intentional actions to support her clients and help them create space to bring their ideas into the world.

If you feel like you’re constantly fighting to keep up and it often feels like the months are passing you by without change or intention, this is the episode for you.

Ep 41: Slow is Smooth and Smooth is Fast

Ep 41: Slow is Smooth and Smooth is Fast

The title of this episode is taken from Modern Family. As a self-confessed ‘speed freak’ in life (not in a car) I’ve made it my mission to slow down, it’s a work in progress.

But I’ve definitely noticed that by doing things slower, I follow my plan better and I enjoy it more.

We live in a fast world which often leads to a state of anxiety, stress and burnout as we try to keep up. Perfectionism and the desire for completion has a huge role in this too.

But we are never going to get to an end state or complete a business, there will always be more you want to do. Is forcing yourself to go faster really going to help you if it leads to exhaustion?

If you struggle with getting things finished, feeling rushed, feeling like you struggle to be present or you’re in a cyclical state of burnout, this is an episode for you.

    Ep.40: My Story

    Ep.40: My Story

On this week’s episode, I’m sharing my story.

Sharing my story isn’t always easy but I think it’s important. My personal brand and my passion for personal branding is the product of my own personal experiences and journey.

From watching my parents launch the first online business network when I was 6 years old, through to leaving my corporate job and coping with PTSD after being kidnapped and raped in France.

I went on a journey of healing and discovery, putting the responsibility on myself to create the change I wanted to see.

Through the work I’ve done and continue to do on myself, I really do believe that you are your own biggest asset. Challenges will come and limiting beliefs will do their best to hold you back.

However, with the right people around you, you really can create a life that fulfils you. You can attract opportunities and have a positive impact on the world.

Thank you for listening to my story.

Ep.39: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, with Samantha Demers

Ep.39: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, with Samantha Demers

In this week’s episode I’m joined by Samantha Demers, who left an established career with the House of Commons of Canada to build a business with her husband and start her own personal brand on the side. For 4 years, she didn't post a single blog post, launch a podcast, or start writing a book because of impostor syndrome and not knowing her perfect niche.

Finally after getting tired of waiting, she started creating content online in March 2021. Since then, she's been steadily growing an online audience on Twitter, started writing her first book "The Creator's Guide to Overcoming Impostor Syndrome," leads a group of 150 aspiring creators in an accountability group and has hosted over 100 Twitter Spaces.

In the episode, Samantha talks about her need for a plan, a strategy and an outcome, all of which was preventing her from just getting started. From following what she thought was the dream career path, to navigating burnout to giving herself permission to pursue what truly fulfilled her, Samantha’s journey is one that many of us can resonate with.

We discuss the paralysing effect of over-thinking, procrastination and perfectionism, and Samantha shares the steps that she took to not only overcome those obstacles but also to create a sustainable brand that helps others to do the same.

Ep.38: Diversity and Personal Responsibility, with Emma Livingstone

Ep.38: Diversity and Personal Responsibility, with Emma Livingstone

In this week’s episode, I’m joined by Emma Livingstone, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at age two. At age 16, Emma was discharged from medical services, being told that she was the best she would ever be, although she found her physical problems increased in adulthood, without any integrated care from the authorities.

In response, Emma started a charity to help those in the adult Cerebral Palsy community who like her, were struggling to get the right kind of help. In the episode, Emma speaks passionately about personal responsibility and the need to own your circumstances to take the first step.

We also discuss the power of the individual to not just encourage equality but to embrace diversity if we want to see positive change, as well as the impact that recent circumstances like working from home can have to make the work environment more inclusive.

Emma is a qualified speech and language therapist working mainly with children across London and runs the charity Adult Cerebral Palsy Hub full time with her colleague and friend Neuro Miriam Creeger.

Maryon Stewart BEM (British Empire Medal), is a world-leading expert and author of 28 books on PMS, Peri-Menopause and Menopause. She has conducted many scientific studies which inform her approach with her online business- the Midlife Refuel programme and community, treating menopause entirely naturally.

Maryon started out helping girls and women with PMS until her own daughter died of legal highs in her early twenties. Maryon took a break to run a charity to stop tragedies like that from happening.

In the episode, Maryon shares her passion for helping women and men to understand menopause and the transition that many women go through after her studies showed 96% of women say they feel unprepared for menopause and two-thirds say they feel robbed of life as they knew it. Maryon aims to give women a mid-life refuel and help them get back to life as they knew it.

Ep.36: How Companies and People Can Make an Impact, with Mark Cuddigan

Ep.36: How Companies and People Can Make an Impact, with Mark Cuddigan

In this episode, I’m joined by Mark Cuddigan, who became the CEO of Ella’s Kitchen in 2011 after being drawn to the company whose founding mission is to improve children’s lives through developing healthy relationships with food.

In 2016 Ella’s Kitchen became a B Corporation, becoming only the second company to do so whilst part of a PLC (after Ben & Jerry’s!). For those who haven’t heard the term before, B Corporations are businesses that give equal standing to people, planet and profit, a topic which Mark is very passionate about and which we cover in more detail in this episode.

Mark speaks about the values which are important to him, Ella’s Kitchen and other B Corporations - it’s not about making more money, it’s about making a bigger impact and leading and inspiring other companies to do the same.

We discuss the increasing power shift towards employees with the rising mass-resignation movement, particularly in the States, as social media changes that power balance of what we buy, who we buy from and who we work for, and people prioritise their desire to work for companies that align with their values.

Ep.35: How to Reflect and Plan Your Goals for 2022

Ep.35: How to Reflect and Plan Your Goals for 2022

I try to reflect twice a year, at the start and in the middle. This year I’m following these prompts below which you can also use.

Learned - what did I learn in 2021?

Achieved - what am I proud of?

Gratitude - what am I grateful for?

Goals - what are my goals for this year? These aren't just about achievements but how I want to feel? What do I want to do? What do I want to experience?

Watch - what do I need to watch out for? What might hold me back or trigger me? What might I need to work on and heal from? What thoughts and habits are controlling me?

Listen - what is my gut telling me? What do I need to listen to? How can I be more aligned with my intuition?

In this episode, I’m sharing my answers, what I’ve learnt and achieved this year, as well as what I’m grateful for in the last year and how I can take these things and carry them into 2022.

Ep.34: Podcasting and the Future of Audio, with Hannah Russell

Ep.34: Podcasting and the Future of Audio, with Hannah Russell

In this episode, I’m joined by Hannah Russell, the co-founder of Mags Creative, a leading independent podcast production and promotion company which reaches millions of ears every month. The company works with the likes of Facebook and Google to bring their stories to life in audio, as well as famous faces (or voices!) such as Munroe Bergdorf, Laura Whitmore, and Gareth Thomas.

Hannah shares her story of how Mags Creative was founded and how refreshing she finds the world of podcasting, with the opportunity to niche, reach a highly engaged audience and grow in a sustainable way.

We discuss the impact of screen fatigue and Hannah’s belief that audio is the future as we all become over-stimulated in a world of excess screen time and oversaturated social media accounts.

Hannah generously shares her tips for starting and building a successful podcast and the importance of realising that podcasting isn’t a ‘get rich quick scheme’. She also answers the question we all want to know - do you need social media to build a successful podcast?

Ep.33: Starting Small with your Mission

Ep.33: Starting Small with your Mission

As we head towards the end of 2021 and the start of a new year, I want to think about the goals we set and the pressure we often put on ourselves to help people and achieve our big mission or big vision.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed if you're someone with a massive mission to help people and help the world. When you're so consumed by the impact you want to have, it can stop you enjoying the present and realising that the small things you can do to help others are often just as impactful.

In this episode, I'm discussing the pressure we put on ourselves and the accompanying guilt we feel for taking time to ourselves when we feel we have a mission to fulfil.

I also want to remind you that small acts of kindness and small changes to help one person can have a ripple effect. From starting small, you can have a great impact when you transform the day of just one person.

And if you're struggling with this, you're not alone. I'm sharing my experience of this too and how we can all support each other through small acts of kindness.

Ep.27: Nobody has it all figured out, with Gaby Mendes

In episode 27 I'm joined by former teacher, award winning podcaster and entrepreneur, Gaby Mendes.

Gaby hosts the Talk Twenties podcast in which she covers a range of important topics that aren't taught in the education system in the UK and yet are vital to young people as they navigate adulthood and their twenties, post-higher education.

From buying your first house to career progression and managing your finances, Gaby discusses the societal expectations that come with these milestones in your twenties, and yet no one is telling you HOW to actually accomplish them.

Combined with the modern-day pressures of social media, comparison and the so-called 'snowflake' stereotype that's often given to Millennials, Gaby's podcast, online resources and workshops aim to navigate these challenges and provide life skills and knowledge to young people who are newly entering the world of independent adulthood.

In episode 26 I'm joined by Yoga Teacher and Coach, Nicole Gomez.

Nicole talks about her own experiences which have informed her practice to help her clients work through their own trauma and reconnect with their bodies through yoga. Nicole's message and aim is to help people rediscover and reconnect with who they are and bring joy back to their relationship with their bodies.

Nicole discusses the various ways that people not only cope with trauma and stress but also the feeling that society expects you to pick yourself up and carry on, without the necessary steps to process that trauma, anxiety or stress.

She also discusses self-worth and the external validation that we unconsciously or consciously seek from around us, rather than sitting with our own discomfort to process it.

Nicole also does a short neck relaxation with us in this episode, to help release the stress we all hold in our necks from our day-to-day lives. (13m)

This is an episode not only for people who practice yoga and meditation but also for those wanting to understand more about how their own stress and anxiety is connected to their body.
