SCP Podcast Episode 219: Lauren Mones

SCP Podcast Episode 219: Lauren Mones

In this episode, we chat with Lauren Mones, owner and creator of Fermenting Fairy.  A line of unique wild fermented foods.  Healing foods.

Lauren was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2014. At the time, she was what some people considered “Uber healthy”.  She was racing triathlons. A normal workout day consisted of running, swimming and biking for up to 6 hours per day. She ate a mostly clean diet and had a great career as a nationally certified Occupational Therapist.  Her personal relationships with family and friends were solid. But she began to show signs of terrible gut health.  She was sick. Very sick.

When the post drug drowsiness wore-off, the physician whispered in her ear "this is a life-long disease with no cure. You will need to be heavily medicated for the rest of your life." She was then told to go home, take medication and eat anything she wanted, that food had nothing to do with the activity of the disease.  Her physician encouraged her that she would be able to “live an average life with Crohns”.

But Lauren was not content with that.   She didn’t know anything about Crohn’s at the time, but what she did know, was that food, in particular plants, had always had a healing effect on her.  Never having been one to live an average life, that fueled her fire! She changed everything, eliminated inflammatory foods and added more foods that were closest to nature. She managed stress levels better with personal growth practices.

She began making sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, kombucha.  She started studying the microbiome in depth.  Not only was her body healing with these foods but she developed absolute awe for the microbial world. A world that is teeming with life. A world of balance, symbiosis and chaos.

Fermenting Fairy was born from this place of trusting her own inner compass and a deep desire to share these living, fermented, medicinal foods with you.

SCP Podcast Episode 215: Dr. Jaban Moore

SCP Podcast Episode 215: Dr. Jaban Moore

In this episode, join us as we talk with Dr. Jaban Moore.

Dr. Moore’s passion for restoring health through a multi-therapeutic approach came from a young age when his mother was diagnosed with Diabetes after a 3-year struggle trying to figure out what was causing her health to decline. She was diagnosed only because she was in a car accident and in the ER she was told that she was diabetic. Her doctors noted that it was possibly missed for years. By this point she had gained 100 lbs, her cholesterol was out of control, she had ulcers in her stomach, depression, high blood pressure, and chronic fatigue. Growing up Dr. Moore watched his mother’s condition progress adding new medications and symptoms by the year never curing or making her feel better for long just stabilizing one symptom until the next started. This eventually lead to thyroid cancer and 2 surgeries to remove the cancer. Through this experience, Dr. Moore found his mission to discover the root cause of a condition so that the progression can be stopped so the next person doesn’t have to go through a story like hers.

During chiropractic school when his own health journey began he started to decline physically rapidly with no known cause at the age of 25. Over the next year, he searched for answers with many different doctors. He was experiencing, fatigue, joint pain, and low testosterone. After not finding many answers from several doctors he was at a conference of functional medicine doctors. It was there he met one who suggested the possibility of Lyme disease. After some testing and further investigation, Dr. Moore was found to be positive for Lyme. This began his journey of learning how to treat it. After consulting several doctors and trying many treatments Dr.Moore found relief and has been symptom-free for over 5 years now.

Dr. Moore’s professional and postdoctoral training includes True Cellular Healing, Chiropractic Plus Kinesiology, Applied Kinesiology, Clinical Kinesiology, Acupuncture, Bio-Resonance Therapy, Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT), Nutrition, Rehabilitation, Functional Medicine and Blood Laboratory Analysis.

We address the benefits of nature, through the Infrared spectrum, and negative ions, with our signature interface of natural earth elements. The use of natural gemstones like jade and tourmaline enhances the even distribution of deep penetrating infrared as well as generating an abundance of negative ions into the environment, thus bringing the positive forces of infrared heat, negative ions, and natural health to one’s body.

SCP Podcast Episode 205: Boyd Varty

In this episode, join us as we talk with Boyd Varty, author of "The Lion Tracker's Guide To Life".  A wildlife and literacy activist Boyd Varty, had an unconventional upbringing. Born to a family of conservationists, Boyd grew up on Londolozi Game Reserve in the South African wilderness, a place where man and nature strive for balance, where perils exist alongside wonders.

As a university student, he studied psychology and ecology, supplementing his education by learning martial arts in Thailand, hiking through the jungles of the Amazon, and apprenticing to a renowned tracker from the Shangaan tribe deepening his intimate knowledge of the natural world.
