It's been a while since I've posted a mix, but I haven't forgotten about the Afro-Marc Podcast at all. A lot has happened in my life since my last mix was posted. I've travelled across the world, dealt with some pretty major challenges, and grown a lot as a person. I tried to make this mix a reflection of my new and improved view on the world. Music for Yoga Meditation and Other Joys

Music for Yoga Meditation and Other Joys
At long last, I'm ready to post a new episode of the Afro-Marc Podcast! I'm deeply apologetic for abandoning the cause for so long. I've recently relocated to Thailand where I'm living at a yoga school. As such, it's taken me a while to feel grounded and in control of my surroundings. I've been here about a month now, so I feel like I'm ready to kick out the jams on a regular basis once again. It's fitting I get back into it with an episode entirely composed of meditation and yoga music. This is forty minutes of music designed to allow you to harness the power of your mind. Meditate on your third eye as you listen to the Gayatri Mantra. Namaste (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions). 1. The Gayatri Mantra PS - Don't worry, the funk will return soon!

    Bulletproof
We kick things off this week with a track from a record I've got on repeat these days, Bulletproof from The Liberators self-titled debut LP. As I recently wrote in my review for The Afrobeat Blog, this record is about good as any afrobeat record I've heard in a while. The Liberators hail from Sydney, Australia, but they've got a sound that resembles that which comes from Daptone Studios in Brooklyn. We also feature some Ikebe Shakedown, Jorge Ben, and close things out with some Sly (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions). 1. Bulletproof - The Liberators 2. The Payback

    The Payback
We kick things off this week with one of the all-time classics, The Payback by JB. This song was originally written by Fred Wesley to be on the soundtrack to a film, Hell Up in Harlem, but when the director decided to go into another direction, The Boss decided the record was too good to not put out on its own. History has certainly deemed he made the right choice. We also work in some Stevie Wonder featuring a song with which I'm absolutely obsessed right now, as well as some Mayer Hawthorne, Los Cafres, and a cut from a tight afrobeat band out of Sydney, Australia, The Liberators (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions). 1. The Payback - James Brown 2. That Girl - Stevie Wonder 3. Maybe So, Maybe No - Mayer Hawthorne 4. Rags to Riches - The Liberatiors 5. Che Che Cole - Willie Colon 6. Kita Kita - Gaspar Lawal 7. Feeling Good
I've come into a lot of great music as of late. The Breakup Episode

    The Breakup Episode
I recently broke up with my girlfriend of two years. It's all for the best, but I've been listening to my fair share of sad music as of late. As such, I've put together a mix of songs that aren't necessarily break up songs, but they all hint at my state of mind these days. It's a new year and new opportunities abound. Here's to new beginnings (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions)! 1. Let's Stay Together - Al Green 2. Love Comes and Goes - Lee Fields & The Expressions 3. The Blaxploitation Episode

    The Blaxploitation Episode
This week's episode is the Blaxploitation Episode, all the songs are taken from soundtracks to 1970's blaxploitation films. While I could have made this mix twice as long, I've chosen a few songs from four nasty records: Superfly, Shaft, The Mack, and Slaughter's Big Rip Off, composed by Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Willie Hutch, and Fred Wesley respectively. While I'm leaving out several classic film scores in this mix, I've put together a funky mix that I hope you'll dig (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Productions). 1. Theme from Shaft - Isaac Hayes 2. Superfly - Curtis Mayfield 3. Theme from The Mack - Willie Hutch 4. Slaughter's Theme - James Brown 5. Tryin to Get Over - James Brown 6. Fred is Dead - Curtis Mayfield 7. Walk from Regio's - Isaac Hayes 8. People Get up and Drive Your Funky Soul - James Brown 9. Ellie's Love Theme - Isaac Hayes 10. Brother's Gotta Work It Out - Willie Hutch

    Compared to What

    Compared to What
We go heavy on the funk this week, kicking things off with a track from the new collaboration between John Legend and The Roots, Wake Up. They recreate Eugene McDaniels' Compared to What, although you wouldn't even recognize it if you didn't know. While I usually don't include pop songs in my mixes, I simply couldn't resist working Cee Lo Green's pop hit Fuck you into the mix. In my opinion, it's the perfect pop song. We also work some Ebo Taylor, Very Best, and JB's into the mix along with a track off of The Trouble Man soundtrack (Brought to you by The Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc productions). 1. Compared to What - John Legend and The Roots 2. T Plays It Cool - Marvin Gaye 3. Come Along - Ebo Taylor & The Pelicans 4. Blow Your Head - Fred Wesley & The JB's 5. Fuck You - Cee Lo Green 6. Get It Up - The Very Best 7. Ana (Captain Planet Remix) - Vieux Farka Touré 8. Have You Ever Seen The Rain - Honeyboy Martin
