    Mike Murray Re-Release

    Mike Murray Re-Release

Mike's feedback on his experience interviewing with The ANBRWY Podcast:

“I recently had the opportunity to interview with Jaclyn Paxton on ANBRWY. I was never the first to raise my hand in any setting and I wouldn’t have done so with ANBRWY except for Jaclyn and what we share as Marines.

We were to discuss my career and any number of exigencies that impacted, thwarted or drove me. None of which I have given very much thought to. She presented me with questions under the headings of: “Success in Career,” “Attitude around Career and Culture,” “Military and Non-Profit Work.” Each heading came with a series of questions.

I was comfortable immediately as we began. It was clear how much had gone into the format and that her path-of-questions was to create an understanding of how one’s journey has evolved  -- thought out or not. Jaclyn takes the information and constructs a story as the conversation continues – deftly highlighting insights and sign posts. She truly wants to understand the interviewee’s motivation and does so in a way of shared discovery. The ANBRWY experience was settling, somehow confidence building and something I’ve continued to think about – I still have the question sheet.

I would recommend listening, and I hope to, subsequent interviews. For me the interview was part therapeutic, and part opening doors that, for the most part, stay shut, accompanied by someone who wants to learn along with you.

            I’m grateful for the experience.”

Talking with Richard Kaufman, The Comeback Coach

Talking with Richard Kaufman, The Comeback Coach

His dad left when he was young, his mother struggled financially and began using; by the age of 13 he was addicted to alcohol.  He became an emancipated minor and joined the military shortly after turning 17.  He hit more obstacles, being pushed out of the military and looking at probable jail time when he got into trouble as a bartender.  He rejoined the military a short time after and about to be thrown out a 2nd time his life hit a turning point.  September 11, 2001 hit hard and forced him to reevaluate.  He started wanting to help others, he wanted to start making an impact.  He set out to do just that and he has.

From Anger to Acceptance with Daniel Curry

From Anger to Acceptance with Daniel Curry

Daniel Curry is my name. Originally from Indianapolis, IN. I attended a small high school in Ohio, before joining the U.S. Army. My Army discharge was signed while I was awaiting transfer to an Oklahoma State prison. I have lived on the streets as a homeless ex-con. I have lived a life of waste and luxury in San Francisco as a part of the dot-com craziness. The two were separated by a mere 10 years. And another 10 years I worked for others.

Now, I am working for myself. Building a Managed IT Services practice. Keeping it lean as I grow it organically, so it has the wide and deep roots needed to ensure success.

Stepping Into Purpose with Kurt Ballash, Ballash Woodworks

Stepping Into Purpose with Kurt Ballash, Ballash Woodworks

Growing up in my grandfather’s shop I learned the basic of woodworking. However, I felt drawn into the military after high school. With a little over 10 years in the Army my transition out of service was tough. I found that many factors interfered with my ability to maintain a job, be a good father and husband, and function with a higher purpose.

Woodworking is the grounding that has allowed me to overcome from the cumulative effects of combat and service. Woodworking has provided me a sense of purpose, mental focus, and a feeling of accomplishment.

Through The Artisans Outreach at Ballash Woodworks, I hope to give back by teaching other service members, veterans, and their families members the trade while providing a safe environment to forge the next mission after their service ends.

    Talking with Tam Laingen

    Talking with Tam Laingen

    Tam's Bio:
Traumatic early childhood. Grew up with a single mom and sister, moving a lot. After 9/11, decided to join the Minnesota Army National Guard at 17. Left for Army training right after high school graduation. Studied Human Biology in college in hopes of going to medical school. Got pregnant right out of college. The clinic I was working for ended up closing, so I tried my hand in corporate wellness. I quickly realized that the corporate world was just not for me. At 27, I had to really dig deep and figure out where life was taking me. I wasn’t with my son’s father and I was leaving the world of medicine I had always worked for. I had to find my why. Why did I choose medicine to begin with? I loved people. People were my business. How could I do what fulfilled me, without giving up time with my son and be directly rewarded for the quality and efficiency of my work? Owning a business made sense. So, what kind of business? Real Estate. I walked out on my corporate job, started a business and went all in with real estate.

    Talking with Joe Adkins

    Talking with Joe Adkins

Mr. Joe Adkins fell in love with country music about 7 years ago.  The stories told by cowboys and outlaws over a slide guitar, surrounded by friends dancing and playing, quickly became the pastime of choice.  Throwing on a pair of boots, with tickets in hand to a concert, Joe would set up a tailgate experience that would turn into an epic preparty to any event.

He recreated his favorite game, horseshoes, to be portable and began bringing it parties and tailgates. His parking lot preparties grew to 60 people.   It wasn’t long until a local bar took interest and rented a few for the summer.  He found himself in a business of entertainment- providing another option outside of Jenga and Cornhole for patrons to have fun while taking a break from line dancing or crowding a stage.

Every year his crew would set out on a road trip to attend the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a country music festival set in the middle of the Las Vegas lights.  He and his country family were there on October 1, 2017 caught in the chaos of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Though spared from physical injury, the emotional wounds ran deep.   Still climbing out of the valley of trauma, Joe is finding ways to cope and keep his love of country music, concerts, and tailgate hosting strong.  By concentrating on developing Ringer, The Portable Horseshoe Game, it occupied his mind and gave him reason to attend events as he had to go to fulfill rental agreements. He now finds himself getting to concert venues much earlier than the crowds to set up and staying much later to break the games down and pack up.

It’s still a long road ahead for Joe, before he’s able to attend a concert and not feel like all the joy and happiness of the moment him won’t suddenly turn to terror.  It may take another year before he’s able to move away from his career in finance and do this full time.  But he’s on his way, and he is making every moment count bringing fun to others who share his love of musical stories told by cowboys and outlaws.

It’s an honor speaking with you, Joe. Thank you!

Talking with Dr. Robert Garcia Part 2: Business

ANBRWY is bringing you a two-part series with Robert Garcia, known to many as Dr. Rob Garcia the Warrior Strategist.

Expert Strategist, 8 Time Author, and Speed Learning Authority.

Part 2- 'Business' Robert shares business advice usually reserved to only those enrolled in his Tactical CEQ Course or working 1:1 via consulting.

Ph.D.; Noted speaker, CEO of SHIFT Advanced Life Design magazine, and 8 time author.  Your recently published book ‘The Next Level Supercharged’ is available on Amazon.

Originally from Eureka, CA Robert grew up in neglect and poverty. On top of being raised by a family of addicts, he also had mounted struggles outside the home with constant bullying and a learning disability, eventually failing out of high school altogether.  Robert joined the Air Force at 21 years old when he found himself sleeping on floors, financially broke, and broken-hearted living in Phoenix, AZ.

Today, he is known as the Warrior Strategist and helps others using speed learning, which he used to complete his doctorate. Fueled by rage and desire, he keeps moving.  His movements though are not self-serving, rather they are centered in helping others climb.  It is the most magnificent lesson in how instead of bitterness and defeat resulting out of conflict and trauma, Robert moves through his life with compassion and generosity. His work ethic, his successes have left little room of a traditional life balance- he is mostly surrounded by entrepreneurs, influencers, and dreamers but in Robert Garcia fashion, he has even made a plan to tackle that in the coming year.

Part 1- 'Life' Robert shares with us how he grew up around addiction, dysfunction, & with a learning disability. He proves you define your own path.

Ph.D.; Noted speaker, CEO of SHIFT Advanced Life Design magazine, and 8 time author.  Your recently published book ‘The Next Level Supercharged’ is available on Amazon.

Do you want the rage to go away?

How did you not become bitter?

When did you decide to break the cycle and live a different life than they one you were exposed to?

How do you leverage the rage, the hurt in a productive way instead of allowing it to be destructive?

Is your empathy, desire, and compassion born out of the anger and sadness?

When did you become confident? Was there a defining moment in your life when you decided you were not going to be victim?

How do you explain how your experiences shaped you rather than defining you?
