    - Anne Lamott

We’re a Match

    By Irene Williams, JP Williams

    —v1—

    One pod, two peas

We got something special, you and me

We’re each others’ cup o’ tea

You’re my chamomile ‘n I’m your honey sweet

It is clear that we were meant be

    —chorus—

In a world that’s full of fakes and filters

There’s no denying we’ve got something real

I knew right away you were a keeper

‘Tween the two of us, I got the better deal

    Hip to hip, let’s attach

    We’re a match

    —v2—

    Needle, haystack

Darlin’ you are really quite a find

    They say opposites attract

But we’re birds of a feather and like mind

    You ‘n me—we’re two of a kind

    —chorus—

In a world that’s full of fakes and filters

There’s no denying we’ve got something real

I knew right away you were a keeper

‘Tween the two of us, I got the better deal

    Hip to hip, let’s attach

    We’re a match

    Hip to hip, let’s attach

Hook to hook, what a catch

I got a plan; I’ll help ya hatch

    Itchy itch, scratchy scratch

    We’re a match

    Chop Wood Carry Water

    Chop Wood Carry Water

Get perspective for the journey on this Song Lyric Sunday: Listen in as Irene and JP share and discuss their song “Chop Wood Carry Water.” This tune is their fresh take on the age-old saying that holds lots of truth for all of us today.

You can find the song in its entirety on your preferred music streaming platform.** Just search the song title and mention “JP Williams featuring Irene Williams.”

Here are the lyrics; enjoy!  Chop Wood Carry Water

    By Irene Williams, JP Williams

    V1

    You could travel the planet

    Dine with a king

    Memorize the commandments

    Won’t mean a thing

‘Til you roll up your sleeves,

Get your hands in the dirt

    There ain’t a guru

    No philosophy

    Gonna come save you

    Friend, you’re already free

As they say, the ball’s in your court

    Get to work

    —chorus—

    If you’re searching for enlightenment

You don’t have to look too far to find it

Just spend today being a doer, not a talker

    Chop wood, carry water

    V2

    You want transformation

    To forever be changed

    But the real revelation?

    It all stays the same

    Even the wisest of wise

    Gets thirsty and cold

In the end, we all reap what we’ve sowed

    —chorus—

    —bridge—

Don’t let your quest be a big distraction

Teachings come in and out of fashion

    It’s really addition by subtraction

    The answer’s in the action

    —chorus—

** At time of this episode release (10-29-23), the song is available on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and many other outlets but not yet live on Amazon Music.

    What Do You Want

    What Do You Want

What do you want? Would you want it if you didn’t know they have it? And would you want that if nobody ever knew you had it?

It’s shockingly difficult for many people to clearly know what they want and desire. It’s also shockingly difficult for many people to be content once they’ve attained the thing, the experience, the position, etc. We humans are wired to seek the reward of new, different, next, but, in our modern era of abundance and constant input, our wants can get out of whack.

Listen in for perspectives to align your wants and desires with your core values. When values are the guide, you may find it easier to remember that what you have now is what you once wanted and wished for. Also, you’ll be less likely to settle for a temporary want that works against your lasting core values.

Speaking of core values, click here to revisit this previous episode, “Let Core Values Be Your Guide.”

    Change Your Thinking About Drinking

In this episode, JP opens up about his relationship with alcohol and the reasons and results of his decision to go a full year without drinking beer (or any other adult beverages). His perspective and experience is shared with no shame or self-judgement; it’s just an honest evaluation of a new approach that’s proved beneficial.

Four Ways to Feel Better Now

Four Ways to Feel Better Now

Anxious? A little off? Here are four practical ways to feel better now. Tap into these tactics to shift perspective and mindset to move forward.

    1. Pause: There's power in pausing to allow yourself to choose a response rather than emotionally reacting.
    2. Name - Claim - Tame: Name what you're feeling, take responsibility for it, and then you can tame it.
    3. Start Simple: Start with the most simple solution first. There's often no need to escalate.
    4. Be Kind to Yourself: Treat yourself as you would your best friend.

Some takeaways:

    • We are not our feelings. We have feelings.
    • Too much news intake can affect mental health.
    • Connection and community are vital.
    • Faith and love are sources of comfort and healing.
    • Words of care are gifts to those who need them.
    • Coaching today can fortify you for the unexpected that happens tomorrow.

Pardon if this sounds trite…but it’s true that you are not alone. Yes, you may have to take a first, small step to find the connection you need. Love yourself just enough to take the step.

    Fact or Feeling

    Fact or Feeling

The saying goes “we don’t see things as they are; we see things as we are,” and it’s so true. When we react emotionally, are wrought with worry, or on the defense in situations, it’s often because we’re fueled by feelings rather than focused on facts.

Learning to ask “is this a fact or feeling?” is a powerful method for quickly finding perspective. By taking a moment to find the answer, we tap into our amazing human superpower to pause and choose a response rather than reacting on raw instinct, bias or emotion.

Listen in as JP and Irene discuss how they use the “fact or feeling” tool with coaching clients and for themselves.

The Only Way Out Is In

The Only Way Out Is In

Ready to go all in on your life? This #songlyricsunday episode is for you! JP and Irene share their original song, "Only Way Out Is In," interspersed with conversation on the meaning and takeaways from the message. Lots of people say "the only way out is through," but this podcast offers a fresh perspective that invites everyone to stay IN the river of life. When we stay in, we're always moving forward, no matter if the waters are choppy or smooth sailing.

Here are lyrics to the song, followed by the poem, "Fear" by Khalil Gibran that Irene mentions in the episode.

The Only Way Out Is In
    by Irene Williams, JP Williams

    — v1 —
There ain’t no getting around a river
You can build a bridge or paddle through
Going side to side won’t move ya forward
That’s like living life in deja vu

    — chorus—
The only way out is in
And becoming one with the flow
The river leads to the ocean
And that’s where you want to go
    Don’t camp on banks
    Where you’ve already been
The only way out is in

    — v2 —
Some days you’re cruising with the current
Others fighting just to hold on
Staying in the water makes you stronger
Cool and smooth as river stone

    — chorus —

    — bridge —
All in, all in and willin’
    Sink or swimmin’
    Yeah, that’s livin’

    —chorus—
The only way out is in
And becoming one with the flow
The river leads to the ocean
And that’s where you’re meant to go
    Don’t camp on banks
    Where you’ve already been
The only way out is in

    —tag—
There ain’t no getting around a river
The only way out is in

    Fear
    by Khalil Gibran

It is said that before entering the sea a river trembles with fear.

She looks back at the path she has traveled, from the peaks of the mountains,
the long winding road crossing forests and villages.

And in front of her, she sees an ocean so vast, that to enter
there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.

But there is no other way.
The river can not go back.

    Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.

The river needs to take the risk of entering the ocean
because only then will fear disappear, because that's where the river will know
it's not about disappearing into the ocean,
    but of becoming the ocean.

    Letting Go
written by JP Williams & Irene Williams
    performed by JP Williams

    v1
It’s such a rush to go all in without a plan B
Pats on the back from family and friends, you were off to chase a dream
Now it’s five years later since you moved from your hometown
Your only motivation is you don’t want to let them down

    chorus
Letting go is the hardest thing to do
Letting go — when the dream has hold of you

    v2
You opened up a part of you
    No one had ever touched
    It’s heavy on the heart
When you want someone so much
    You dreamed about the future
And that future seemed so bright
    Guess they call it ghosting
‘Cause it keeps you up at night

    chorus

    bridge
Life is what happens when you’re making other plans
What’s meant to be is what will be
Go on and open up your hands

    chorus
