Developments, Innovation, and Investment in Hungary’s Logistics Sector

Agility key for Logistics Services Providers

Agility is crucial: that was perhaps the key takeaway from the latest CEO Breakfast Briefing, organized by the German-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its content partner, the Budapest Business Journal, at the Antara Hotel New York Palace on March 7.

Logistics was the overarching theme, with panelists representing the road, rail, and air freight aspects of the sector: René Droese, Chief Development Officer at Budapest Airport; Ádám Meszaros, Country Managing Director at DHL Express Hungary; Ádám Tálosi, head of legal affairs and board member at East-West Intermodal Logistics Plc.; and Thoralf Wagner, Chief Executive Officer at Lufthansa Technik Budapest Ltd.

Other topics covered included the HR battle for talents, the need to innovate and find green solutions such as sustainable air fuels, and the lack of rail infrastructure. The now regular event features breakfast and networking opportunities around a moderated roundtable discussion.

BBJ CEO Boardroom Meeting Roundtable, November 9. 2022

BBJ CEO Boardroom Meeting Roundtable, November 9. 2022

The third CEO Boardroom Meeting in 2022 took place November 9., over breakfast in the beautiful Matild Palace Hotel.

The Boardroom Meeting is an invitation-only event for some of the leading expat CEOs and Budapest-based diplomats. As usual, the event will feature an in-depth roundtable discussion, this time focusing on the economic prospects for Hungary for Q3-Q4 2022.

The BBJ's latest Macroscope Report for the period (available to purchase from our webshop) identifies some of the issues we hope to cover: Will the energy crisis prove worse for business than COVID? Will an agreement be reached between the EU and Hungary to free up much-needed funding? Are we looking at contraction in Q3-Q4 and recession by Q1, and will the recovery, when it comes, be robust?

Our roundtable speakers are Tamás Lőcsei, the Country Managing Partner for PwC Hungary, and Rezső Rózsai, the national senior partner and CEO at KPMG Hungary.

Questions will be asked by Robin Marshall, the editor-in-chief of the Budapest Business Journal.

BBJ CEO Breakfast Briefing, September 28. 2022

BBJ CEO Breakfast Briefing, September 28. 2022

"Welcome to the second CEO Breakfast Briefing organized by the German-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Budapest Business Journal, where the theme of our roundtable is “The Future of Energy.”

Let’s introduce our first speaker, Attila Steiner, State Secretary for Energy and Climate Policy at the Ministry of Technology and Industry. The rest of our panel are Ákos Hegedűs, managing director of Linde Gáz Magyarország Zrt., András Sávos, president of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce but here as vice president, head of digitalization and process optimization at Knorr-Bremse AG, and Viktor Sverla, head of group strategy at MOL Group.

The discussion covers key questions of the current energy turmoil. How do we source it? How will we pay for it? How green will it be? With electricity prices having risen multiple times this year, how soon before we see companies going out of business or relocating? How will we meet climate goals and keep homes and offices warm and well-lit and factories functioning? Given the possibility of Russian gas shortages, could/should coal make a comeback? How quickly can hydrogen come online, and when it does, will it be grey, blue or green?”
