Episode 14: Brown? Down. The Scene from Cameron
Episode 13: The Wofford Win, and Holiday Wishes for the Dukies
Episode 12: The Wofford Warning
There are several broadsides against Aaron in this episode for his anti-social opinions, along with our first cat-based sponsor, but mostly we talk about living through the doldrums of late December, the Wofford game, and the play of OUR BOYS so far. We're back in the saddle!
Episode 11: Sparty Slain, Zion Avenged
The Izzone was rocking, Michigan State was poised for a season-changing win, and none of it mattered—Duke came to town and slaughtered them in their own house. From Tre to Vernon to the surprising Javin, it was a road masterpiece, and a perfect way to lead into ACC season. Ariana, Shane, and Aaron break it down, and throw out some Virginia Tech stereotypes for good measure.
Episode 10: Stephen F. Awful, Win-Crap...The Bad Week
The Dukies take their first loss, Cassius Stanley goes down, Tre looks tired, and Wendell reverts. Folks, this was not a good week. Ariana, Aaron, and Shane are talking about what went wrong, and what it means for the team and the season. At minimum, we can kiss the no. 1 ranking goodbye...but what does it mean for the brutal Michigan State/Virginia Tech week ahead?
Episode 9: Beating Georgetown, Burying Cal
The no. 1 Dukies defended their ranking in style—sometimes, anyway—with two more wins at MSG, Coach K's home away from home. Shane, Ariana, and Aaron are here to discuss the lessons from two nights in New York, from the stunning play of Vernon Carey to the continued excellence of Cassius Stanley to the emergence of Wendell Moore. We talk about what Coach K looks for at this time of year, wonder where Hurt is going, and introduce a new segment Aaron insisted on called "Foot Fetish Corner." It's not what you think, unless it is. Gobble Gobble.
Episode 8: Player Grades, Cal and Texas (??) Previews
Ariana and Shane go down the roster grading the no. 1 Blue Devils after four games, and then we chat with BOTH Cal Bears representative Rob Hwang of The Bearcast (27:00) and Texas rep Dustin McComas of OrangeBloods.com (42:00) about Duke's next opponents at MSG. Plus, Aaron Kirschenfeld has been thoroughly re-educated and confesses to his sins!
Episode 7: Optimism and Pessimism After Georgia State
The Duke Blue Devils are on the verge of being the no. 1 team in the nation after an ugly but finally definitive win over Georgia State, but are we happy about that? Do they deserve it? Aaron says no, Ariana and Shane battle him to the rhetorical death, and in between we sing songs of praise to Tre Jones and Vernon Carey while striking a more solemn tone for the rest of the gang.
Episode 6: Instant Reax to Central Arkansas Thrashing
Duke demolishes Central Arkansas, a team who made the bold choice of coming into Cameron and playing our exact style of game, with biggest of props to Matthew Hurt and Cassius Stanley. Shane, alone and 2.5 glasses of champagne deep, takes a crack at analyzing what he saw, and before you can blink he's spoken for 25 minutes. A solo ep!
Episode 5: Paean to Cassius Stanley, Lament for James Wiseman
It's Shane, Ariana, and Aaron in the house, recapping the Colorado State game, worshipping Cassius Stanley as he deserves, and looking at where Duke goes next. Then we talk about the power of momentum, and finish with some raw anti-NCAA material in response to Memphis' James Wiseman being ruled ineligible.
Episode 4: Sizing Up the Rams, Burying the Jayhawks
We're purging our final thoughts about the Kansas victory, both from a practical basketball angle and a conspiracy angle. Aaron wants to know what the men at the top are hiding with Joey Baker's phantom appearance and Alex O'Connell's phantom foul shot, while Ariana has some thoughts on Coach K's hair. Then Shane sits down with Justin Michael of thednvr.com to talk about what to expect from the Colorado State Rams on Friday, and we wrap up with a look at some results from our college basketball, including the debut of Cole Anthony, who brings terror to us all.
Episode 3: Beating Kansas
Shane, Ariana, and newcomer Aaron gathered to watch Duke's terrific 68-66 win over Kansas to kick off Year One After Zion, and discussed the super defense, Jack White's consummate performance, and what we learned about the character of this mysterious team that we can take forward. Then things got philosophical, with Aaron asking "what is the atomic unit of basketball?" An analytical, intellectual journey into the soul of Duke basketball and sports fandom.
