    In Series 3, Episode 4 join me, Adam Z. Robinson, and my guest, Kirsty Logan we discuss two stories: 'The Red Room' by H.G. Wells & 'There Will Come Soft Rains' by Ray Bradbury.

    Kirsty Logan's first story collection, The Rental Heart & Other Fairytales, won the Scott Prize, the Polari First Book Prize, and the Saboteur Award. Her first novel, The Gracekeepers, won a Lambda Literary Award and was selected for the Radio 2 Book Club and the Waterstones Book Club. Her other books include A Portable Shelter, The Gloaming and the collection of Gothic tales, Things We Say in the Dark. Her forthcoming novel, Now She Is Witch, is due for release in January 2023 and her ghostly audio series The Sound at the End is available on Audible.     Jenn Ashworth is novelist and Professor of Writing at Lancaster University. Her novels include A Kind of Intimacy, The Friday Gospels and Fell. She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2018. In 2019 she published Notes Made While Falling, a memoir told in a series of essays. Her latest novel is Ghosted: A Love Story. Jenn has written a brand new introduction for a new edition of A Helping Hand by Celia Dale. And most recently Jenn’s short story ‘Flat 19' was  shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award.     Will Maclean is a writer and the author of the novel 'The Apparition Phase'. Originally from the Wirral, Will has been fascinated by ghost stories since he was a child, and has been writing them almost as long as he can remember. He’s written for television professionally since 2006, during which time he’s worked as a scriptwriter for people as varied as Alexander Armstrong, Miranda Hart, Al Murray and Tracey Ullman. As well as comedy, he’s also written extensively for children’s television, where he’s been an integral part of writing teams that have picked up two BAFTAs and an International Emmy.     Catriona Ward is a novelist. She was born in Washington, DC and grew up in the United States, Kenya, Madagascar, Yemen, and Morocco. She read English at St Edmund Hall, Oxford and is a graduate of the Creative Writing MA at the University of East Anglia. Her most recent novel, The Last House on Needless Street is published by Viper (Serpents Tail) and Tor Nightfire. Catriona’s second novel Little Eve won the 2019 Shirley Jackson Award, the August Derleth Prize at the British Fantasy Awards and was a Guardian best book of 2018. Her debut Rawblood also won the 2016 August Derleth, making her the only woman to have won the prize twice. Catriona’s forthcoming novel, Sundial, is due for release in March 2022.     Comic Book & Graphic Novel Ghosts: with Thom Burgess

    Welcome back to The Ghost Story Book Club!

    In Series 2, Episode 11 join me, Adam Z. Robinson, and my guest, Thom Burgess as we discuss some of the Best Comic Book & Graphic Novel ghost stories. Thom has put together a list of ten of his favourites. 

    After his breakout indie comic Malevolents in 2015, Thom Burgess quickly garnered attention from the likes of David Sandberg, Andy Nyman (Ghost Stories) and had forewords in his books from the likes of Reece Shearsmith and international horror manga artist Junji Ito. Thom has maintained a high profile within the comics medium, publishing Hallows Fell, Photoghasts and Nyctophobias in which his ghost stories were illustrated by talents such as Pam Smy, Abigail Larson and Trevor Henderson. In 2020 Thom launched a Kickstarter for his graphic novel anthology Early Haunts. The campaign eventually gained 799 backers.  His most recent project, Photoghasts: A Haunted Photo Card Game already has in excess of 460 backers.

    Daisy Butcher is a doctoral scholar and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire. She is currently writing up her thesis 'Cursed Tombs, Killer Blooms and Dangerous Wombs: The Female Mummy and Plant-Woman as Monsters of (In)fertility.' She is particularly interested in representations of female monstrosity and body horror during the long nineteenth-century and modern film/TV.     Janette Leaf is a doctoral scholar at Birkbeck, University of London. She has just submitted her PhD thesis on ‘Locating the Sympathetic Insect: Cultural Entomology, Egyptianised Gothic and Emotional Affect in Richard Marsh's The Beetle'. She is particularly interested in fin-de-siècle Gothic, the Weird and anything Egyptological. She has presented on insect imagery and on Richard Marsh at many national and international conferences.
