The Hometown Take with Dylan Mathews

Dylan opens up with talks on the Hawks as they made no moves at the trade deadline to which Dylan says that he himself was not surprised, however, he does understand why some fans may be upset by the team not making any type of significant trade to help bolster the team’s efforts to turn the season around.

Dylan opens up with some Hawks talk as they fall 125-117 to the Celtics on Wednesday, however they were able to keep the game relatively close most of the night despite being without Dejounte Murray and Clint Capela. And while he was disappointed in the Hawks’ loss, Dylan believes that the team is starting to figure things out and are starting to turn a corner and showed promise on Wednesday night.

Dylan opens up with some discussion on what Atlanta Falcons new head coach, Raheem Morris will bring to the table and believes that they will be able to take advantage of Morris being an overseer of both sides of the ball thanks to his past experiences of having to work on both offense and defense during his previous stint with the Falcons and allowing his coordinators to make the calls.

Dylan adds that he believes that Trae Young being snubbed by not being selected to the All- Star game may have given the Hawks guard extra motivation and if the team feeds off of that, they be headed on a heater.

Dylan opens up the show with some talk on the Falcons as they announce the hiring of Ike Hilliard as the new wide receivers’ coach, which Dylan believes is a good hire due to the experience that the former player turned coach brings to the table. Dylan then shares his thoughts on the idea of the Falcons go after Russell Wilson in free agency and then draft a QB in the later rounds to bring up under Wilson that could be the franchise signal caller.

Dylan opened up the show with some Falcons talk and gives updates on the recent coaching staff announcements made by the franchise including Jay Rodgers as the DL coach and Dylan hopes that Rodgers will be able to help the Falcons defense pick up their sack numbers as his most recent team in the Chargers, finished with 53 sacks in 2023.

As well as reports that TJ Yates that will be moving from WR coach to QB coach and Michael Pitre, who is the RB coach, and Dwayne Ledford, who is the OL coach, will be remaining with the team. Dylan adds that the success that Robinson had with the Rams gives reason to be excited about the hire as the Falcons have a lot of offensive weapons.

Dylan opens up with a recap of the conference championship games and in the 49ers/Lions matchup, Dylan questions Dan Campbell not kicking the field goals and going for it on a couple of fourth down possession, which they did not convert. He adds that he believes that while Campbell has been known for going for it on fourth down all season, with a chance to reach their first Super Bowl, Dylan believes that the Lions should have taken the points.

Dylan opens up his reaction to the news of the Falcons hiring now former Rams’ defensive coordinator, Raheem Morris, as the team’s new head coach. Dylan believes that the hire is a good one by Atlanta referencing Morris’ ability to change the Falcons’ culture during his time as interim head coach of the franchise after Dan Quinn was let go. Dylan adds that fans should not judge Morris on the final record of the Falcons while he was the interim HC due to the fact that he took over a team which he did not have an opportunity build.

Dylan opens up with Falcons talk as another head coach candidate is no longer available with reports of Jim Harbaugh, who was scheduled for a second interview this week with the Falcons, is signing on to be the Chargers new head coach in a reported 5-year deal. And with Harbaugh off the board for the Falcons, Dylan shares his thoughts on who Atlanta may choose to take the reins, believing that Bill Belichick is likely the favorite, however Bobby Slowick and Raheem Morris are among some of the candidates he believes should have heavy consideration.

Dylan adds that he believes fans should not dismiss the idea of Morris, who was the interim head coach after the Falcons fired Dan Quinn, as he believes that Morris could prove to be a good fit and gave Atlanta a pulse and had them playing better during his interim tenure.

Dylan kicks off the show with some Falcons talk as it was reported on Monday that Atlanta has requested second interviews with Ravens DC Mike MacDonald and associate head coach and DL coach Anthony Weaver as well as a second interview with Rams DC Raheem Morris, who was once the interim HC after the Falcons moved on from Dan Quinn. Dylan notes that he also wonders if there may now be a sense of urgency for the Falcons to get the hire done as one of the candidates, Bengals OC Brian Callahan, is reportedly being hired as the next HC of the Titans.

Dylan opens up with reactions to the NFL divisional round matchups and believes that both conference championship games will not disappoint. And while recapping games from this weekend, Dylan praises Lamar Jackson and the Ravens for the way they were able to turn up offensively to pull away from the Texans.

Dylan kicks off the show reacting to the reports that the Falcons have now allowed DC Ryan Nielsen and special teams coordinator Marquice Williams to do lateral interviews after originally being blocked. And while Dylan believes that these moves do not indicate anything particular in regards to the futures of Nielsen and Williams with the franchise, he does note that there is the potential of candidates interviewed by the Falcons have indicated they’ll want to bring in their own guys.
