    How To Overcome Imposter Syndrome - Building Self-Confidence & Self-Belief | Dovile Blindaruk-Vile

Today I am joined by the wonderful Dovile, a personal development coach, to discuss confidence development, overcoming imposter syndrome, and ways to release perfectionistic tendencies.

We’re often crippled and frozen by self-doubt and fear, feeling an overwhelming need to meet internal and externally enforced expectations, stuck in an overly perfectionistic mindset.

And yes, although being high achieving, goal oriented, and achievement striving are all great qualities… these traits can actually become quite problematic from a wellbeing perspective - leading to burnout, relentless overthinking, anxiety, self-sabotage, and procrastination….. and thus negatively impacting your mental health.

And so, Dovile discusses the value of balance, providing insight as to how we can challenge pre-determined beliefs, overcome feelings of incompetence, challenge these imposter like-tendencies, and reframe our mindsets.

She highlights the value of bringing awareness to your thought patterns, strategies to help change your perception, and how to alter your previously established viewpoints and perspectives.

She also provides advice on how to generate more self-confidence, and self-belief, and how to be more appreciative and empathic with your own self.

Calories on Menus - More Harm Than Good? | Dr Omara Naseem

Calories on Menus - More Harm Than Good? | Dr Omara Naseem

Joined by Dr Omara Naseem, a psychologist specialising in eating disorders, for an in-depth discussion regarding the somewhat controversial topic of the introduction of calories on menus.

As of April 2022, it is now a legal requirement for restaurants, cafes and takeaways with more than 250 staff to include caloric information on their menus, websites, and on delivery platforms.

The new rule is part of government plans to tackle obesity.

In today’s episode, we discussed this (what we perceived to be) flawed strategy, and its inevitable contribution towards harmful thoughts and behaviours for individuals struggling with disordered eating and eating disorders.

In regards to it tackling the obesity epidemic, we discuss how a holistic approach is required to create impactful chance… whereas, realistically, a few texts upon a menu may not be the most effective tool to facilitate long-term behavioural changes. A full lifestyle transformation, the cultivation of sustainable and healthy habits, greater education, and community-based interventions are required to approach the issues. So, does this strategy seem like a quick fix?

To follow, in terms of the disordered eating perceptive, we raise how this process will only enforce unhealthy tracking tendencies and disordered behaviours. It can be harmful, perceived as confronting and anxiety inducing for those struggling and cause set backs in recovery journeys.

So today Dr Omara Naseem provides advice to those struggling, recommending strategies to help someone navigate these stressful situations, whilst also revealing mechanisms to interrupt disordered urges as well as methods to neutralise relationships upon digits, numbers and statistics.

Hopefully alongside myself openly discussing my personal experience, alongside Omara providing her professional perceptive, this episode can provide some guidance and support to you or simply educate you on how this new governmental strategy may cause more harm than good.

Helping Someone With Mental Health Difficulties

Helping Someone With Mental Health Difficulties

What strategies can you employ to support a friend, loved one, or significant other experiencing mental health difficulties? How can you inspire an individual to progress along their recovery journey, seek suitable support, speak openly of their emotions, and guide them along a positive pathway?

From acquiring greater understanding through education, practicing patience, setting aside time to genuinely listen, and maintaining a non-judgmental dialogue... here is my advice.

Why BMI Shouldn't Determine Eating Disorder Diagnosis

Why BMI Shouldn't Determine Eating Disorder Diagnosis

BMI should never be used as the primary indicator for eating disorder diagnosis, or for determining who is considered 'unwell enough' to access specialist treatment.

Why do I think this is harmful? It can lead to potentially dangerous delays, neglecting imperative early intervention strategies, thus triggering suffers further down a destructive pathway

It's important to remember that the vast majority of eating disorders aren’t immediately visible - they’re primarily psychological illnesses, evidently proving that the simplistic calculation of BMI is a totally inadequate strategy for diagnosis.

Rediscovering - Eating Disorder Recovery ep.3 | Joss Walden

Rediscovering - Eating Disorder Recovery ep.3 | Joss Walden

This phase is primarily about finding purpose, rediscovering joy, and ultimately looking ahead.

While the redefining stage encompasses the process of assessing what life could be like away from the eating disorder, rediscovering is about becoming actionable, becoming intentional and putting it into practice.

It’s about putting yourself in discomfort zones, building resilience, understanding that backward steps aren’t indicative of failure, as well as challenging yourself and subsequently acquiring growth from moments of adversity.

It also consists of incorporating productive coping mechanisms and the construction of relapse prevention plans, allowing you to feel equipped and prepared if you experience any moments of difficulty
