Dealing with Grief and Loss with Jessica Shreffler

Dealing with Grief and Loss with Jessica Shreffler

We have a conversation with Hope's childhood friend, Jessica Shreffler, to discuss grief and loss. Jessica shares her journey of losing her toddler to a drowning accident in 2006 and what she has learned in her journey of dealing with tragedy. If you have experienced the loss of a loved one, or want to support someone who has, you don't want to miss this episode!

    Thoughts from this Episode:
It’s not always going to feel like this. There’s a deep level of grief where you feel like you were walking along on a sunshiny, happy path, and somebody just picked you up by your hair and just dropped you in the very pit of hell. And I just thought, Is this ever going to end? Am I stuck here now? Will there every be happiness? Will there ever be joy? The darkness you are in right now isn’t going to last. We have to be active and looking for healthy ways to deal with our grief.

Reprise of 9.12.2019 Full Conversation with Missionary Nathan Lloyd-Jones

Reprise of 9.12.2019 Full Conversation with Missionary Nathan Lloyd-Jones

We are re-releasing the full episode (vs Parts 1 & 2) where Katie and Hope have a heart to heart with Hope’s missionary brother, Nathan Lloyd-Jones. We learn a little about Nathan and we have real talk about the struggles of parenting. We discuss healthy ways to have conversations with children about their actions. The later half of the discussion moves to a focus on issues with teens, and how parents can persist past seemingly bad attitudes and actions. Nathan provides info on short term mission work with him in Honduras.

    Tips from this episode:
As a parent, if you struggle with the ability to verbalize emotions and talk through events with your children, seek support from a more verbal partner or learn from a verbal friend how to better have these tougher conversations. Consider doing “temptation bundling” to match character building with fun activities for your children.

    The Parenting Episode

We sit down for some real talk about parenting. Topics include current books we're reading and how they relate to parenting, as well as how our own childhood issues may impact the way we interact with our children.
    Tips from this episode:
Learn to apologize. Learn your child. Try to truly listen to what your child is telling you and take a non-defensive approach to hearing. Do your own work as a person to address your personal issues and not project those onto your children.

An Honest Look at Eating Disorders and Recovery (Clean) with Rachel

An Honest Look at Eating Disorders and Recovery (Clean) with Rachel

We sit down with Rachel to get real truth about eating disorders and the road to recovery. In order to retain the raw conversation as well as respect the listener’s preferences, we are offering two versions of this honest talk. Please look at the titles to ensure you’re listening to the one that best suits your needs.

    Tips from Rachel:
For ones who struggle: “The only way to be of service to others is to be of better service to yourself”. Find ways to figure out what you need and communicate that to those around you in the support community you develop to help you on this journey.
For family: Do your best to ask questions- to get curious. Recognize the ED is not about you, but be willing to ask yourself, “Am I creating an environment for wellness, or am I creating an environment for this situation to just continue?”
