    The Plantiful Podcast

Isabelle and Noah met in 2010 during her study abroad year from Europe in the U.S. In 2011, Noah started his first job in NYC and Isabelle decided to get her masters degree in Paris – they then spent two years in a long distance relationship, going back and forth between two continents, and ultimately decided to create a life together in NYC. Even though their backgrounds could not have been more different – Noah grew up in a Jewish family just outside of NYC and Isabelle was raised in a traditionally European household – food had always brought them together. However, in 2013 when Isabelle took the plunge and went fully vegan, Noah thought all was lost. Their individual journeys to a plant-based lifestyle took detours along the way, but is ultimately what brought them closest together. Today they want to share their story with other individuals and couples who are looking to build a healthy, sustainable life. The Plantiful Podcast shares the inspiring stories and practical advice of vegan change makers across the health, wellness, and fitness industries. Isabelle and Noah also share their personal advice to empower everyone who is curious about plant-based nutrition and a vegan lifestyle to take control over their own journey. Isabelle is certified in plant based nutrition from e-Cornell, she is also Ishta Yoga certified and has spoken in front of hundreds of people at numerous events such as the NYC Veg Fest, the Miami Seed Food and Wine Festival, Brooklyn Borough Hall, the NYC Plantbased Immersion Workshop, the Woodstock Animal Sanctuary and many more. Isabelle is also a weekly contributor to Peaceful Dumpling, an online vegan health and wellness site. By day, Noah is a financial advisor in Manhattan where he helps individuals and families plan for the future. He commutes to and from work by bike, in addition to his weekly training plan, which adds up to about 20 hours a week – entirely fueled by plants. If he is not biking across Prospect Park, Noah can be found swimming, running or training with a local triathlon club gearing up for his next big race. Noah also loves making his home-grown, all vegan, beard wax. Noah and Isabelle live in Brooklyn, NY. Check out theplantiful.com for more info, inspiration and content.

TPP 060: Conversation with Ryan Bethencourt about Clean Protein for Our Pets

TPP 060: Conversation with Ryan Bethencourt about Clean Protein for Our Pets

Our society is being challenged in ways we never expected, and our futures have been shaken.  The uncertainty is terrifying.  In the midst of human and economic fallout however, it has become clear that connection and good spirits are essential. People have found those connections not only through Zoom, but also through their pets. NYC residents have gone out in droves to adopt animals, and amazingly the shelters are empty!  Clearly, people are caring about their pets during this crisis, and with that comes responsibility.  Responsibility not just to give pets shelter, but also to give them the quality food they deserve.  Since the crisis began, pet food sales have gone through the roof.  Today we share with you what you need to know in order to provide canines with the absolute best quality dog food, while looking out for the planet.  Even if you don't own a dog yourself, surely your friend does and you might help them think twice next time they go to pick up kibble.

When Ryan Bethencourt learned about how animals are produced and killed for human consumption over a decade ago, he quickly changed his diet in order to reflect his values.  He brings the same sense of ethics to his work, and eventually went on to found Wild Earth. Wild Earth is a sustainable pet food company and their mission is simple: "to make dog food better because our pets and our planet are worth it."

One of the many interesting facts we learn from Ryan is that the population most likely to put their fur-friends on Wild Earth's clean protein pet food is the cohort that feeds their dogs raw meat.  This at first may seem counterintuitive, considering Wild Earth's clean protein comes from plants, but it actually makes complete sense.  This group of pet parents wants the purist, cleanest, best protein source for their animals.  The myth about domesticated dogs being carnivores has long be debunked, so people can have a clean conscious about giving clean protein to their pets.

If you're someone trying to reduce your carbon footprint or reduce the number of animals used in the food supply chain then listen closely.  Ryan explains that a significant segment of the animal agriculture population actually goes to our pets, so switching to clean protein not only helps shrink the horrific animal agriculture sequence, but also directly reduces the carbon footprint.  The protein found in fungi has complete amino acid chains that helps keep dogs healthy while keeping our planet green.

They are so sure your dog will be happy and healthy with your purchase that they offer a 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee to ensure 100% customer satisfaction. If for any reason you or your dog doesn't like the food, Wild Earth will promptly issue a refund!

Ryan is thought provoking and is creating a better path forward for all of us who are trying align our choices with our values.  We hope you enjoy our conversation with Ryan.

TPP 059: How world vegan travel let’s you experience adventures abroad fueled by plants

TPP 059: How world vegan travel let’s you experience adventures abroad fueled by plants

Brighde and her husband Seb have truly made their passion their life. World Vegan Travel, their brainchild, provides vegan group tours to off the beaten path destinations. Realizing the challenges vegans and vegan curious travelers can experience when they embark on exotic travel journeys, Brighde made it her mission to create offerings that let you explore and experience local culture and tradition while sticking to your dietary choices.

As a second time podcast guest, Brighde gives some close insights on the recent trips to Rwanda that included a one hour visit to the gorilla families in volcano national park. It’s an experience of a lifetime, as the local organization has implemented strict regulations around visiting the gorillas and the number of people entering the park is highly limited. Other trips that World Vegan Travel hosts include adventures to Vietnam, trips to France and upcoming trips to south Africa and Italy.

Traveling and sticking to eating plant based can be challenging because of perceived or real cultural pressures as well as sometimes limited access. However, with the right research and mindset, it’s not that overwhelming. Brighde and Seb are inspiring guides in that field and empower the guests on their trips with the right tools. Oftentimes, we can get into our own heads and be overly worried about what others think. The key is to be respectful and conscious, while not being embarrassed to explain our choices.

    TPP 058: Reflecting on 2019

    TPP 058: Reflecting on 2019

Reflecting on our year, we did a simple exercise and wrote down our respective highs and lows. The highs were abundant, and we have much to be grateful for. The lows present room for improvement, and we are grateful for those opportunities too.

In our final episode of 2019, we pinpoint specific moments of the year as we overcame fears, focused on the process rather than the result, or creating space for ourselves. These three themes became emblematic for growth this year.

We like to remind ourselves that News Years is just another date in the calendar. Opportunity for change and growth waits in plain sight every single day. That’s why we aren’t huge fans of aggressive goal setting for the month of January and then reverting to bad behavior afterward...how about instead, moderate and deliberate choice you can sustain for a longer time period?

A 30-day challenge is a great way to change habit, and even more powerful if you can change habits to create a more fulfilled version of yourself that continues after Jan 31. So if you’re eyeing a dry January, 30 day vegan challenge, or getting back in the gym, we encourage you to do it! Part of the challenge is creating new improved behaviors that are sustainable for the long run.

We hope you find a few moments to reflect on your 2019, and set yourself up for a successful year to come.

TPP 057: Interview with Colleen Patrick Goudreau

TPP 057: Interview with Colleen Patrick Goudreau

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau was one of the first vegan authors

that I started reading when I transitioned in 2013. What always stood out to me, was how clearly she articulated her values and beliefs related to veganism. Colleen talks about the fact that you are ‘not becoming vegan’, rather, you are expressing your full self when you start abstaining from animal products and living a vegan lifestyle. She also isn’t willing to compromise on her values and clearly states throughout her work how living according to what you belief is not something you need to do halfway and that, if there is resistance in any form from family, friends, co-workers, neighbors or others, it’s from a place of insecurity, sometimes even defensiveness or it’s from a place of unnecessary self consciousness. Her 30 Day Vegan Challengeis the original work that inspired Noah to embark on his vegan journey - and as Colleen says it so eloquently, it wasn’t her doing, it was he who chose it.

Colleen’s words could not resonate more with us. And her latest book that just officially hit the on- and offline shelves on 11/12 is a summary of tools she has been crafting and sharing for the last 10 years through her podcast. The Joyful Vegan: How to Stay Vegan in a World that Wants You to Eat Meat, Dairy and Eggsshares Colleen’s personal story, which a lot of us will be able to relate to. It’s the story of a child with empathy, asking questions about the animals we love and the ones we eat, from a very young age on.As she says, it’s not an original story, in the sense that a lot of children evolve this way. One of the crucial points Colleen makes in her work is that the interaction with animals is often used as a ‘barometer for determining mental and emotional health’ - but most of us go on and eat animals.

In our interview we talk with Colleen about this profound contradiction that a lot of us embody and live. We talk about the reason why we eat animals and why it’s so hard to stick to a vegan diet in a society that collectively believes in the commoditization of animals. We also dig into the question if veganism is going mainstream and if we are going to reach the tipping point of conscious consumerism soon.

We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did. It was an absolute highlight for us to sit down with Colleen and to be able to share a little bit of her deep presence and her incredibly well articulated thoughts on empathy with all of you.

TPP 056: An interview with Jessica Murnane

TPP 056: An interview with Jessica Murnane

Jessica Murnane is more than inspiring: she’s truly moving. Her powerful experience with her own health struggle around endometriosis, which affects 1 in 10 women in the US, has not only made her an incredible educator about this emotionally taxing condition but she is also an example of resilience and grit.

All the shades of eating plant based

Jessica found the plant based diet right before her scheduled hysterectomy and it changed her life. Her perspective is realistic however: while she would never eat animals or recommend eating them, she strongly believes that everyone is different and has different needs. Bio individuality is what should guide our plant based food choices, not the pressures of the latest trendy diet.

There is no one ‘cure it all diet’

Jessica  talks to us about how she navigates having different guests on her own podcast, One Part. She explains why it’s important to disagree and why healing yourself is a journey with many stops. There is no magic pill or diet.

Education about endometriosis is still not mainstream - Jessica is here to change that

We also dive into Jessica’s endometriosis awareness work through her platform Know Your Endo and he upcoming book #2, that will address this topic.

When you talk to Jessica, you feel so much warmth and empathy. Our conversation left us so full and we are sure you will feel the same.

TPP 055: Why You Should be a Mindful Traveler

TPP 055: Why You Should be a Mindful Traveler

With travel so accessible these days,

it is all the more imperative that we take a mindful approach when embarking on our journeys.

Having just returned from an incredible trip to Kyrgyzstan, Isabelle and I cherished the country's pristine nature. From hiking and biking, to staying in yurts in the mountains or with local families in villages, we got a taste for an on-the-ground experience.  As tourism is on the rise in Kyrgyzstan, the opportunity to explore its beautiful landscape will be increasingly accessible.  This benefits the local economy, but comes at the risk of pollution, improper waste disposal, and a strain on local food supply chains.  Unfortunately, Kyrgyzstan is no stranger to pollution from foreigners, as they've experienced several deplorable chemical spills in their gorgeous alpine lakes due to foreign mining activities.

    [cp_popup display="inline" style_id="3303" step_id = 1][/cp_popup]

All this to say, we are raising our awareness of how to travel mindfully, while at the same time experiencing and respecting the lands and cultures of others.  When it comes to eating plant based in foreign places, this yields its own sense of adventure and determination - and Kyrgyzstan has a knack for finding ways to put bits of meat in almost every local dish.  Navigating those conversations on top of a language barrier, presents an opportunity to share some of our own convictions too.

We hope you enjoy a reflection about 2 of our favorite topics - travel and plant based nutrition - and think about the impact you wish to make when setting foot aground a foreign land.

TPP 054: How Fears and Plants Fueled Noah's Ironman Journey

TPP 054: How Fears and Plants Fueled Noah's Ironman Journey

In November 2018 when Noah committed to doing an Ironman Triathlon in July of 2019, a high degree of mystery lay ahead of those 9 months.  He fear all the unknowns, including the possibility of failure in both the athletic endeavor as well as in his personal life.  Inviting those fears to have a seat at the plant-based dinner table, of course, ultimately paved the way for both hard lessons learned and personal growth.

Eating a whole foods plant-based diet as pillar during the training presented it's own obstacles too.  For example, Noah didn't use any of the "Gu" products and other processed foods or energy drinks, so he created his own home-brewed blends of sustenance and electrolytes.  During the highest training loads, he had to find ways to add even more-nutrient dense foods into his diet to ensure he was meeting the calorie and protein requirements his body demanded.

There is no such thing as balance.  Rather, proactively scheduling activities and relationship-time around the training proved critical.  At times Noah struggled with prioritizing his personal relationships while training, and eventually learned that "you don't just find time," but instead he had to carve out time to ensure the nourishment of those personal relationships.  As he discovered, Ironman training is anything but a solo adventure, and it takes a village to accomplish this goal.

TPP 053: A conversation with Richard Miron

TPP 053: A conversation with Richard Miron

Richard Miron’s ‘For the Birds’ is more than a documentary about animals rights, which was the initial angle that the filmmaker took when following Kathy’s story. Miron meets Kathy, who owns close to 200 birds, during his work with the Woodstock Sanctuary in 2011. Still in college, Miron’s advisor urges him to follow Kathy’s story, when originally he thought not much more of it. He wanted to make a movie about mammals, cute animals that people can relate to, in the spirit of more classic animal rights work.

When Miron starts following Kathy’s story, the emotional rollercoaster that unfolds in front of everyone, it becomes clear how complex and nuanced this story is. It’s the story of a woman who loves animals and grows her love from one little duckling to close to 200 ducks, geese, chickens and turkeys. When word gets out about an alleged animal hoarding situation, the Woodstock Sanctuary gets involved take custody of the animals and place them into new homes. The story unfolds from there and leads to a court trial and unexpected events that give deep insights into Kathy’s life: her relationship with her husband Gary of over 20 years, her estrangement with her only human daughter and the complexity of this love for her birds.

Richard Miron masterfully depicts all the grey zones, the moral challenges, the broken trust,  the pain and the hope. He leaves us feeling empathy for all human and non human animals involved in this story and creates a new conversation in the field of traditional animal rights.

We loved sitting down with Richard Miron and can’t wait for you to check out his documentary now available on Amazon, Google Play and iTunes. Find out more in the show notes below:

TPP 052: How to Let Your Kids Decide What and How They Want to Eat

Parenting is not an easy task. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the most challenging things in life and we truly don’t learn
it in school or anywhere else. When it comes to feeding your kids, meal times and making sure to get the right food
into their bodies, can be a challenge, more often than not.

With the increasing interest in plant based eating among adults, and millennial parents starting to have kids -
millennials have the highest rate of vegans among any generation - more and more parents are raising their kids on a
plant based diet. While a growing trend, there is still ample skepticism around this decision.

so much of the past few months around Tilda transitioning to solids, how she loves eating her veggies and how to

letting your child guide you instead of bribing or rewarding with food so you are happy.

    TPP 051: June Reflection Episode

    TPP 051: June Reflection Episode

Everything we eat these days is in some way processed.

Even the fruit and veggies, picked from the fields, will undergo some type of treatment.

As you know, we think about food a lot. And you probably also know that we are big advocates of real, whole,
minimally treated food vs relying on processed foods. But what does processed even mean? In this episode, we will
tell you all about it and share how we read labels at the grocery store, what foods we gravitate to and how we
navigate feeding ourselves with real food, without missing out on social occasions.

    [cp_popup display="inline" style_id="3303" step_id = 1][/cp_popup]

We also share some of our favorite resources (mostly books) that have helped us on our journey.

We know - and feel this every day ourselves - that identifying good food can be hard. With companies like Beyond
Meat taking off, we have seen plant-based going mainstream. We believe in the value of some of these foods as
transition foods but we also believe that real food and minimally processed ingredients and products are the best long
    term health insurance.

TPP 050: The Power of Mindset and Losing 160 Pounds in 20 Months

TPP 050: The Power of Mindset and Losing 160 Pounds in 20 Months

When Anthony Masiello was denied a 20 year life insurance policy

before his second son was born, it all suddenly hit him. He had struggled with weight issues since he was very young, was always bigger than his friends and an outlier in his family. He tried all diets - calorie restricting, cutting out soda and sugar and had even gone vegetarian in the early 90s.

Anthony says it takes 3 things to change a habit and he was lucky that at that particular moment, all 3 things came together: Education, Motivation and Accountability. He had recently picked up Dr. Fuhrman’s book Eat to Live - there was the education. He was anticipating his son’s birth and knew he needed to get that insurance policy. There was no way he could argue with the algorithm that had labeled him as too risky. And that need to get insurance, also created an intrinsic accountability for Anthony.

    [cp_popup display="inline" style_id="3303" step_id = 1][/cp_popup]

Today, Anthony is striving on a whole foods plant based diet and through his work as community leader and coach, he is empowering others with tools to lead their own journey.

Anthony exemplifies the power of mindset and how we all, can adjust, evolve and grow. We are not doomed to sticking to our preconceived notions about ourselves and our own abilities. Anthony is a human, like all of us - he has done it and overcame a lifetime of weight issues and habits of unhealthy eating. We can all do it. We can all do what we set our minds to.

TPP 049: When Fixed Meets Growth Mindset

TPP 049: When Fixed Meets Growth Mindset

Mindset is not something you are born with.

It’s like a muscle, you can train it, change it, make it evolve or decide to never alter it. It’s powerful to think that we are not stuck, we are not subjected to any pre given skills and abilities.  We are not powerless.

Fixed vs growth mindset can be found in any one human. Yes, some of us are more prone to think in one way than another. Some of us believe that we have a certain set of skills, and won’t be able to achieve more, so we try to prove ourselves at all times. That often leads to disappointment and unnecessary pressure. That’s called a fixed mindset. On the other hand, growth mindset embraces the conviction that nothing is static, that challenges can be tackled and that failure doesn’t mean that one has reached one’s full potential.

Carol Dweck talks in detail about these two concepts in her book Mindset, which we highly recommend to add to your booklist. Being aware of the concepts and recognizing our own tendencies, has helped us to reflect on ourselves a lot. We also learned to flex and work out the mindset muscle. What we noticed above all, is that our happiness levels have increased. Carol Dweck talks about that too when she links growth mindset to increased happiness. Approaching life with a growth mindset means increased ability for self awareness which also means more self compassion, And guess what, compassion means increased happiness.

Noah and I both went through phases of our lives where we felt stuck and certain ideas or challenges felt way out of our comfort zones. We also both have experienced the opposite: willingness to grow, improve and fail on the way there. We hope you love this very personal reflection episode and would love to hear some of your stories.

    TPP 048: Krisann Polito-Moller

Krisann Polito-Moller is a plant based champion. One of the most tragic episodes in her life was also the catalyst for change that lead her to profoundly alter her and her family’s diet. Krisann's father passed away just hours before she would go into labor with her first child. She couldn’t make it to his funeral as she was still in the hospital herself with her new born baby. This event moved her to her core and she made health, wellbeing and plant based nutrition the center of her life’s mission.

A Coach, Personal Trainer and Yoga Teacher

A certified personal trainer, yoga teacher as well as health coach, Krisann believe in the most holistic and well rounded approach. It’s about a lot of little steps in a lot of little areas in your life in order. All these small changes will lead to exponential growth and health if only you embrace them.

Krisann Is Now Making an Impact at Bellevue Hospital

Most recently, Krisann joined Dr Michelle McMacken’s team at Bellevue Hospital in NYC as part of the first Plant-Based Lifestyle Medicine Program at a US public hospital. The program brings together doctors, dietitians and health coaches. They work one-on-one with patients to create a personalized plan for healthy plant-based eating.

Krisann is unstoppable and is also the co founder of the Tulsa Veg Festwhich will take place on May 4 for the first time.

    Why Food as Medicine?

Food and medicine can seem like two utterly contradictory terms in today’s world. We learn that medicine is all about medications that most of the time just create new challenges and issues, leading to tons of side effects that can then be treated by... yes, more medicine!

Dr Rob Graham has always been one to challenge the status quo and as such, he deeply believes in using food to prevent and cure disease. We all know that what kills us today is mostly lifestyle related - that means most of our health issues are preventable through adjustments to that very lifestyle.

Dr Grahamwalks his talk and most recently added another specialty to his tool kit: chefing! That’s right, he went to culinary school at the natural gourmet institute and is now more equipped than ever to heal his patients through the most holistic approach to health.

It’s often still hard to believe that most disease is not just happening to us. It’s not ‘normal’ to die of diabetes, cancer or heart disease at 60. Dr Grahamhas made it his mission to empower his patients with this knowledge. Between scientific evidence and the simple skills it takes to feed yourself, his approach is unique and yet incredibly accessible. You are what you eat - no easier way to sum it up. And more than that, most of your health is a personal choice and not an uncontrollable burden.

We hope you enjoy our conversation with Dr Graham, a second time guest on the pod.

TPP 046: Why We Are Sticking to Plants

TPP 046: Why We Are Sticking to Plants

Did you know that roughly 10% of the US population has tried to go plant based at some point of their lives? Crazy right!? You probably also guessed that most of these people didn’t stick to their plant based diet, when remembering that only 2% are currently following a plant based lifestyle.

Clearly drop-off rates are high. It’s tough to stay vegan because of a combination of reasons: the feeling of not being on top of your health and social pressure are often the main ones. And we get it. We know exactly how these challenges feel and how change can be daunting and overwhelming at times.

A few weeks ago the vegan YouTube world blew up when a vegan YouTube celebrity, who has built a business on her raw vegan cooking and lifestyle videos, declared she was no longer vegan. What we find tough about this, is not the fact that she is changing her diet or dropping veganism. What’s tough about it, is that extreme eating patterns like raw only, low fat high carb, low carb high fat and the list of restrictive eating habits goes on and on, gets thrown into the same bucket as a whole-food plant based diet.

Eating whole, plant-based foods is the opposite of restriction, it’s abundance. It’s not about cutting out or focusing on isolated macro nutrients (fat, carbs, protein) but rather about eating food (all sorts of plants: starchy veggies, green veggies, nuts, seeds, beans, grains, fruit, mushrooms etc) in its most minimally processed state to benefit from the complex and rich nutrition profiles of all of these plants.

And guess what? It’s totally ok if you can’t do it ‘perfectly’ or 100% all the time. There are many reasons why we chose to eat plants only. And we don’t believe that it’s about pushing this mindset on another but rather about sharing why it works for us and how we overcame hurdles. Want to know more? Connecting The Dots

The path toward a healthy and conscientious life can begin anytime, anywhere.  For many of us, change comes through sweeping social shifts and broad trends.  For others, change begins on a more personal quest.  Discovering your ownjourney enables fosters personal growth, and becomes the answer to “why” you choose to change for the better.

    [cp_popup display="inline" style_id="3303" step_id = 1][/cp_popup]

A wonderful case in point is Nil Zacharias, who through environmental research projects, traced it all back to dietary decisions. He connected the scientific proof of his research with the social norms of today.  Putting two and two together, he developed his fundamental convictions that through eating animal products we are not only killing ourselves, but also killing our planet.  A few of Nil's key pointers:

If you like expanding your mind and connecting the dots, Nil is your guy.  One thing is for sure, Nil will challenge you to question your food choices.  Enjoy our conversation with Nil, a man who thinks outside the box to change our habits for a better, cleaner, happier planet.

    TPP 044: Dustin Harder

    TPP 044: Dustin Harder

Travel and veganism can seem like an impossible compromise. When we travel, we want to experience and feel the culture that we immerse ourselves into locally. That often means eating local food. Travel also means discovery and open mindedness. So how is that compatible with sticking to your convictions around eating, especially when you refrain from animal products. We know that lots of places in the world use animal ingredients in their traditional cooking so how can you travel and experience the real thing, without breaking veganism?

Dustin Harder, the "Vegan Roadie," has answers for all of these questions. Initially motivated by health, his vegan journey pushed him to combine his passion for entertainment, stemming from his work as an actor, with his love for food. Dustin ended up going to culinary school in between two acting jobs and then decided to take it all on the road. The Vegan Roadie was born - a YouTube travel show, in the style of the Foodnetwork show Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, explores vegan options at vegan and non vegan places across the country.

In his latest season, Dustin took it across the pond to Italy. We talk about the cultural obstacles of this adventures and we chat about how to overcome family resistance in your own home. Dustin is deeply inspiring as he brings together two of his biggest passions. And ultimately, he conveys the joy and deliciousness of eating plants in the most accessible way. Stay tuned for his latest cookbook, Epic Vegan, hitting the shelves this July (click on the link to pre order) and find his best easy recipes in his first cookbook, The Simply Vegan Cookbook.

TPP 043: Jennifer Sun and Chinese Medicine

TPP 043: Jennifer Sun and Chinese Medicine

As a child, Jennifer Sun did not appreciate the bitter herbs her dad would prescribe her against any types of physical aches and sicknesses. Her father, both a Western MD as well as a traditionally trained Chinese doctor, immigrated to the US in his 20s and established his acupuncture and Chinese medicine practice in NYC - decades before it was hip and trendy.

Eventhough acupuncture is having a moment, Chinese medicine is still far from mainstream and the truth is, most people don’t even know that acupuncture is just a part of the century old holistic science.

Jen Sun is here to change that and demistify Chinese Medicine. She does that through tasty and accessible nut and seed butters - perfect for the US market - that are spiked with traditional herbs. So you can eat your peanut butter toast and get a dose of healing? Yep, that’s right.

In our interview with Jen we chat about how it was growing up as the child with the weird smelling herbal teas and what pushed her to leave her traditional career in consulting to pursue a non traditional career of stepping into her father’s footsteps in the most millennial fashion.

Don’t forget to check out Jen’s delicious product selection(we can’t get enough of the nut butters!) as well as some fun recipes here.

    TPP 042: Remy Morimoto Park

    TPP 042: Remy Morimoto Park

At first view, you would never associate Remy's colorful and vibrant food pictures with eating disorders. The truth is, Remy's healed herself from it. But eating disorders used to be very much a part of her life as a young teenager. The combination of what she describes as being some genetic pre dispositions and the fact that she moved to Taiwan as a young child, and felt like having power over her food was a way to keep control, could be some of the reasons why she fell into this unhealthy spiral of being obsessed with food and weight.

Today, her message is simple: eat real plant based food, with no restriction, no limitations. It wasn't always that way: food used to be an enemy and Remy used to use the term 'vegan' - although neither she nor anyone else knew what that meant - as a way to disguise her eating disorder and restrict herself. In middle school, when she started feeling overall weak compared to her peers, she started facing how she felt and what she was doing. It wasn't until college when she totally healed herself. She found true veganism, that was now a 'celebration of a good choice'.

Remy is beyond inspiring. She is only in her early 20s and decided to follow her passion. She quit her stable consulting job to pursue her love for vegan food and share it with the world. She is a recipe developer and yoga teacher and through Veggiekins, her website and instagram account, she inspires thousands to follow a plant based lifestyle, in a healthy, sustainable and ethical way.

We hope you enjoy this conversation with Remy and all the wisdom she has to share!

TPP 041: How We Eat Vegan Without Breaking The Bank

TPP 041: How We Eat Vegan Without Breaking The Bank

It's January and January means New Years resolutions, right? A lot of times, we find our selves excited about the new year and come up with a list of things that we want to change or be better at. Health and money are usually among the top 5 New Years resolutions. While we generally agree that eating more plants is better for our health, unfortunately, eating vegan and plant based has the reputation of being expensive. But did you know that Ben Franklin for example went vegetarian for a while because he knew it was cheaper than eating animal products?

Long Term Health Care Bill Savings

The truth is, there is no need to break the bank when eating plant based. Not only will you benefit from long term savings on your health bills: yes, eating a whole foods plant based diet can prevent and/or reverse 14 of the 15 leading causes of death in this country. Most health issues today, in 21st century America, are lifestyle related. Heart disease, cardio vascular disease, diabetes type 2, stroke and the list goes on. All of them can be countered by eating more plants. But also, you will experience direct savings if you switch your focus from animal to plant products.

How We Reduced Our Bills By 3/4

In this reflection episode, we will tell you all about how Noah cut his breakfast and lunch spending, reducing it to 1/4th of the cost. All while eating healthy, high quality, vegan meals. And without spending much more than 10 minutes on meal prep.

We will also chat about some other ways to save money on a plant based diet like eating seasonal and checking out local farmers' markets.

For anyone out there who is on their own journey, and not 100% vegan, this podcast is for you too! We don't think savings can only be achieved if you are religiously vegan. We don't want this to be binary but rather inclusive and meet everyone where they are.

Comment below and let us know how you like to save money on a vegan diet! :)
