The Psychedelic Entrepreneur - Medicine for These Times with Beth Weinstein

Alexander Beiner is an author and podcaster. He's one of the founders of the media and events platform Rebel Wisdom and an executive director of Breaking Convention, Europe's longest-running conference on psychedelic medicine and culture. His upcoming book 'The Bigger Picture: How psychedelics can help us make sense of the world' (Hay House, 2023) explores how psychedelics could transform culture and society. He has a particular interest on how psychedelic experiences can be applied to systems change and improving how we have conversations around difficult cultural topics. He has also covered psychedelic capitalism journalistically for a number of years, with a particular focus on the ways in which economic and cultural incentive structures interact with the transformative potential of psychedelic medicines.

Trained as a counselor and meditation teacher, Alexander also runs retreats centered on combining practices drawn from cognitive science, the wisdom traditions and psychedelic philosophy to create powerful group experiences. He facilitates legal psychedelic retreats in the Netherlands in partnership with 'Awaken the Medicine Within', co-developed the UK's leading men's work process through Rebel Wisdom and has designed a number of popular online courses focused on sensemaking, embodiment and conversational practices. He has a particular interest in the phenomenology of the psychedelic experience and how we can combine ritual, practice and collective intelligence to expand consciousness in new ways.

James Fadiman did his dissertation on the effectiveness of LSD-assisted therapy. He has held a variety of positions: teaching (San Francisco State, Brandeis, and Stanford), consulting, training, counseling and research, and taught in psychology departments, design engineering, and for three decades, at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University) that he co-founded. Dr. Fadiman has published textbooks, professional books, a self-help book, a novel, and a series of videos, ‘Drugs the children are choosing for National Public Television’. 

His books have been published in 8 languages. He was featured in a National Geographic documentary and had three solo shows of his nature photography. Dr. James had his own consulting firm and has been the president of a natural resource company and has been involved in researching psychedelics for spiritual, therapeutic, and creative uses and is best known for his work on microdosing. He has published The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide: Safe, Therapeutic, and Sacred Journeys, and is working on a book about microdosing.

Bina Altera is the intuitive, dynamic visual communicator behind the branding studio, BE-NA. An accomplished artist, illustrator, photographer, and designer, Bina created BE-NA for people who understand that a visual identity that reveals their true passion and purpose is essential to their success. The syllables of her first name inspired the name of the studio: ‘BE’ is a reminder to be in the moment and ‘NA’ means there is nothing (nada) in the way of infinite possibilities.

Prior to founding BE-NA, Bina’s photo-collage illustrations appeared in The New York Times,The Boston Globe Sunday Magazine, and The Atlantic Monthly, among other noteworthy publications. She has received numerous awards for editorial art and she spent over a decade at the School of Visual Art, leading emerging technologies. While at SVA, a multi-disciplinary art and design school in Manhattan, she earned an MPS in Digital Photography, taught digital imaging and photography, and created a course in advanced digital printing. She also holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Boston.

Dr. Katrina Michelle is a ceremonial psychotherapist specializing in spiritual emergence and psychedelic integration. She is the founder/director of The Curious Spirit, a New York-based psychotherapy practice, former director of harm reduction at MAPS, and former executive director of The American Center for the Integration of Spiritually Transformative Experiences (ACISTE). She lectures for the Integrative Psychiatry Institute and has taught at New York University Department of Applied Psychology, Columbia University Graduate School of Social Work, Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services, and The Institute for the Development of Human Arts.

Katrina is currently involved in conducting research exploring challenging psychedelic experiences with The Emergent Phenomenology Research Consortium and is working on producing When Lightning Strikes Film, elucidating the often '"un/sexy" side of spiritual awakening. Informed by her academic research and her own transcendent experiences, Katrina supports people in exploring, embracing, and integrating the multifaceted human experience.
