#35 TDP "Coping with Misdiagnosis" featuring Bevelly Strange - Grace Taylor

This week we will be discussing the topic of: Coping with a misdiagnosis
Our guest this week is Bevelly Strange, so make sure you go check her out after the episode and show them some love! Her TikTok is @bevellystrange
Bevelly shares her journey through constant misdiagnoses to finally getting a recent diagnosis of ASD. “As someone who has been on a journey with her own mental health I would love to be able to share my insights and help others if I could. I really do feel talking about these things is how we make them less taboo and let others know they aren't alone.”

So what is a misdiagnosis? It is an incorrect diagnosis of an illness or other problem.
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has defined quality of care as “the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge”

#34 TDP "BPD & Relationships" featuring Brynn - Grace Lauren Taylor

This week we will be discussing the topic of how borderline personality disorder affects interpersonal relationships. Our guest this week is Brynn. Make sure you go check her out on TikTok after the episode and show her some love. @breedelage
    Bella (@breedelage) | TikTok
Borderline personality disorder, also called: BPD, emotional dysregulation disorder, is a mental disorder characterized by unstable moods, behavior, and relationships. The cause of borderline personality disorder isn't well understood. Diagnosis is made based on symptoms: emotional instability, feelings of worthlessness, insecurity, impulsivity, and impaired social relationships.

You may hear other names for BPD, such as:

    • Emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD)
    • Emotional intensity disorder (EID)
    • Borderline pattern personality disorder

It's your choice which term, if any, you use. People have very different views on BPD and there are ongoing debates about the diagnosis of personality disorders. Some people find a BPD diagnosis helpful or validating. Some find it unhelpful or stigmatizing.

It’s very common for those that suffer with borderline personality disorder to have suicidal thoughts and experience mental health problems. The 988 lifeline is open to call or text day and night. They are open 24 seven and have free licensed counselors to be able to help with any mental health crisis. You can also text 741-741 to Talk to a crisis counselor

#33 TDP "Growing from Narcissistic Abuse" featuring Anna - Grace Lauren Taylor

This week we will be discussing the topic of growing from narcissistic abuse, with our guest this week, Anna. Make sure you go check her out after the episode and show her some love! Her TikTok is @bugslife6472

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. People with this disorder may lack the ability to understand or care about the feelings of others.

The term “narcissistic abuse” describes a type of emotional abuse that comes from a person with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). People with NPD have low empathy and see others as beneath them, which can lead to harmful, toxic, abusive behaviors. Learning more about narcissistic abuse and talking with an online therapist or provider can help you cope. The sooner you have a better understanding, you can begin the healing after emotional abuse. Suicidal thoughts and behavior are common with any abuse survivor. If you think you may hurt yourself or attempt suicide, get help right away:

    • In the U.S, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.
    • Contact a suicide hotline. In the U.S., call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. Services are free and confidential.

#31 TDP “Near Death Experiences” featuring Katherine - Grace Lauren Taylor

This week we will be discussing the topic of how near-death experiences can change lives for the better with our anonymous guest, Katherine.

Near-death experiences (NDEs), profound experiences reported by some people who survive close brushes with death, are important to clinicians because they often lead to pervasive changes in attitudes and behavior; because they may be confused with psychopathological states; and because they may enhance our understanding of consciousness. Proposed psychological and physiological explanations lack empirical support and fail to explain NDEs, which pose a challenge to current models of the mind-brain relationship.

#23 TDP "Trauma & Attachment" featuring Talia (Dating Intentionally) - Grace Lauren Taylor

This week we will be discussing the topic of, Trauma & Attachment, how trauma affects our attachment styles. The attachment theory was developed in the 1960s and 1970s by British psychologist John Bowlby and American Canadian psychologist Mary Ainsworth.

Our guest this week is Talia from the dating intentionally podcast! You can follow her on Instagram @dating.intentionally

Attachment styles are characterized by different ways of interacting and behaving in relationships. During early childhood, these attachment styles are centered on how children and parents interact.

In adulthood, attachment styles are used to describe patterns of attachment in romantic relationships. The concept of attachment styles grew out the attachment theory and research that emerged throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Today, psychologists typically recognize four main attachment styles.

#18 TDP "Deconstruction & Healing Religious Trauma" featuring Brooke Owens - Grace Lauren Taylor

This week, Licensed Pastoral Counselor Brooke Owens discusses how religious trauma affects sexuality and can create anxiety, depression, guilt, and shame around intimacy and how we can heal from it!

Religious Abuse is defined by abuse administered under the guise of religion, including harassment or humiliation that may result in psychological trauma. Religious abuse may also include the misuse of religion for selfish, secular, or ideological ends, such as the abuse of a clerical position. It is also not limited to coercing into giving money or other resources that you didn't want to give, forcing intimacy or sex without consent for the false purpose of pleasing God.

#17 TDP "Living with Borderline Personality Disorder" featuring Ivy - Grace Lauren Taylor

#17 TDP "Living with Borderline Personality Disorder" featuring Ivy - Grace Lauren Taylor

This week, Ivy discusses her diagnosis of C-PTSD & Borderline Personality Disorder, what it is actually like to be diagnosed, and how harmful it can be to use BPD as a stand in for "unstable" or "crazy".
Borderline personality disorder, BPD, is an emotion dysregulation disorder characterized by unstable moods, behavior, and relationships.
The cause of borderline personality disorder isn't well understood. Diagnosis is made based on symptoms. Symptoms include emotional instability, feelings of worthlessness, insecurity, impulsivity, and impaired social relationships.
