The Best Autumn Eats & Exploring in Dallas, Texas during October

The Best Autumn Eats & Exploring in Dallas, Texas during October

In the heart of the Lone Star State, Dallas, one of its major cities, is a vibrant blend of rich Texas history and modern charm. From the iconic skyline to the rich cultural culinary scene, Dallas promises an unforgettable adventure for every traveler.

We ended our Dallas trip in big ole Dallas. We kicked off Sunday with an outstanding church service at Park Cities PCPC church in downtown Dallas, then changed in the car (yes, we did that) and sped over to our JFK Assassination and Museum Tour. We met at the JFK memorial, which was ugly, isolating, and empty. A solitary place for thinking and apparently singing, this spot was supposed to be ugly, a prominent reminder of the tragedy that occurred on November 22, 1963.

We booked this trip through TripAdvisor, and we were taken on a full walking and driving tour around the city. Our fantastic tour guide gave us the history and background of Lee Harvey Oswald, a tour of JFK's exact assignations spots, and the conspiracy (or truth) behind the horrific events. We even explored the Lee Harvey Oswald Rooming House, where Lee resided. The tour was terrific and quite informative; however, make sure you get to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on time! We arrived 5 minutes late to our scheduled time, and the grumpy employees would not let us in! Apparently, it was the first time this had occurred.

The tour started at 1:40 p.m. and lasted about 4 hours. Mid-tour, our guide took us to the Dallas Farmers Market, where I had the best brisket I have ever had at Beyond the Butchers Homestead Grille. If you don't like BBQ, the market had everything from sushi to Jamaican food and cute boutiques and shops. Here, I discovered the best-smelling soaps and lotions at Abundantly Aromatic and bought way too many of them!

If you are a foodie looking for the best eats around town, try Hudson House. If you are more of a coffee person, try LaLa Land in lower Greenville, where you can order breakfast but focus on the excellent coffee. For an elegant French-inspired brunch spot, try Toulouse Cafe.

Try these Tex Mex. spots for lunch or dinner: Mesero in Klyde Warren Park, Las Palmas and Gloria's in Uptown, Meso Maya in Downtown Dallas, Javier's, and Casa Mama's.

The Velvet Taco is a great fast-food taco spot. My fave late-night downtown taquito spot was Uno Mas. They are open till 11:00 p.m. and are perfect for any late-night cravings! Their tacos and queso fundido were terrific, and our waitress was super cool and friendly.

For the best Margarita in Dallas (called the Mambo Taxi), try Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village. For excellent rooftop drinks, try HG Supply Co. For a Casual New American kitchen & wine bar, try Sixty Vines. For the best pizza in Dallas, try Cane Rosso.

For fresh seafood, try TJ's Seafood Market. Uchi has incredible sushi, and Bob's Steak & Chop House is an A+ steakhouse. The Honor Bar has shareable snacks and delectable sandwiches, and Pecan Lodge is a phenomenal BBQ joint. For a casual burger restaurant, try Rodeo Goat.

Other unique spots for tasty lunch, dinner, and drinks are The Henry in Uptown, Dolce Rivera in Uptown, and Casablanca in the Bishop Arts District.

If you are looking for other activities to do in Dallas, the Fort Worth Water Gardens are a different sight. The Dallas Arboretum is gorgeous in the Spring or Autumn. We also saw the Rocky Horror Show at the Majestic Theater. It was a bit crazy for my speed but very interactive, and the regular playgoers loved it.

Other fun areas in and around Dallas to explore include Highland Park Village, West Village, Deep Ellum Dallas, Trinity Groves, John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza, Northpark Center, and Klyde Warren Park. The homes in Highland Park are spectacularly enormous. West Village is perfect for people-watching while you eat. Deep Ellum Dallas has fun restaurants, breweries, and bars. Northpark Center is a local favorite mall, and Highland Park is a great shopping spot for all your luxury needs.

We stayed in the Magnolia Hotel while we were in downtown Dallas. It was beautiful on the outside and a little dusty on the inside, but I loved the view of downtown Dallas, the full-length vintage mirror, the large bathtub, and the cute coffee shop attached to the Hotel. I found the Magnolia on Expedia and would give it a B+.

Some other Hot Hotel Recommendations are the Canvas Hotel, Crescent Court, The W, Virgin Hotel, and Canopy.

Tips, Tricks, and Top Haunted Houses at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, Florida

Tips, Tricks, and Top Haunted Houses at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, Florida

    Haunted Houses

We went on the first Saturday of October and had a blast. From the horror-themed food to all the different haunted houses, we were totally spooked but made it through 8 out of 10 houses. The houses we thought were the scariest, in order, are as follows: Exorcist Believer, Blood Moon Dark Offerings, The Darkest Deal, Universal Monsters Unmasked, Dr. Odd Fellows Twisted Origins Chucky Ultimate Kill Count, Dueling Dragons Choose Thy Fate, and Yeti Camp Ground Kills. Blood Moon Dark Offerings was about a satanic cult, and The Darkest Deal was bayou-themed. Dr. Odd Fellows Twisted Origins was a twisted spin on clowns and creepy creatures. Our personal favorite was Universal Monsters Unmasked, and the creativity award goes to Dueling Dragons Choose Thy Fate, where I am almost positive I saw the Game of Thrones Night King in there multiple times.

    Express Pass

We recommend splurging on an express pass if you want to make it through all the haunted houses in one night. We missed 2 of the most popular ones, The Last Of Us and Stranger Things 4, which remained between 75 and 90-minute waits. If you have a season pass, you can get a discount on your Halloween Horror Night tickets.

    Scare Zones

There were also five trippy and wild scare zones, including vampire hippies, Dr. Odd Fellows’ shipyard, jungle monsters, and chainsaw chasers.

    Tips for Halloween Horror Nights

    1. Universal Studios closes at 5:00 p.m., and the Island of Adventure stays open till 10:00 p.m.
    2. If you have a season pass or a day pass, stay in the park for horror nights and go to a holding spot that starts at 5:30 p.m. vs. 6:00 p.m. because the line to get into the park is extremely long.
    3. Download the Universal App for all the details on Halloween Horror Nights, park wait times, and more.
    4. Always check the Universal App for park hours because they vary by day, season, etc.
    5. A note for season pass holders: A season pass acts as an express pass once for each ride after 4:00 p.m.
    6. Dress in black to get in the spirit, and try not to scream too loud!

Hidden Gems Off The Beaten Path In Richardson, Texas

Hidden Gems Off The Beaten Path In Richardson, Texas

    A Brief History

Richardson's history dates back to the mid-1800s when settlers began to arrive in the area. Originally a small farming community, it grew over the years and was officially incorporated as a city in 1925. The city's namesake, E.H. Richardson, was a railroad executive who played a pivotal role in the development of the region's transportation network.

Today, Richardson is a vibrant and thriving city that has retained its sense of community while embracing the growth and progress of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

    Cultural Diversity

The city's diverse population is one of its greatest strengths. Richardson is a melting pot of cultures, with residents hailing from all corners of the globe. This rich cultural tapestry is celebrated through various events and festivals throughout the year, including the annual Cottonwood Arts Festival, where visitors can experience a wide range of art, music, and cuisine from different cultures.

    Recreation and Green Spaces

For outdoor enthusiasts, Richardson offers an abundance of parks, trails, and recreational facilities. Breckinridge Park is a local favorite, boasting over 400 acres of green space, walking trails, and even a golf course. The Spring Creek Nature Area provides a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, offering opportunities for birdwatching and hiking along scenic trails.

    Where to Stay

We stayed at the Doubletree Dallas Richardson, an excellent bang for your buck hotel. My husband calls it the Cookie Hotel because they give you cookies at check-in. Another recommendation would be the Aloft Hotel, 5 minutes down the street and located in a fun little shopping center. There, you can find an incredible BBQ restaurant called Good Union Urban BBQ.

    Entertainment and Dining

Richardson's dining scene is a testament to its cultural diversity, with a wide array of international cuisine to satisfy any palate. The city is also known for its lively music and arts scene, with local theaters, galleries, and music venues offering entertainment options year-round.

Right around the corner from the DoubleTree was an adorable little theatre called the Richardson Theatre Centre. Honestly, we didn’t know what to expect, but when I came across the theater on the web, they were running a production of “A Few Good Men,” which was my husband’s favorite movie, so I decided to go for it! Turns out it was wonderful! The theatre was the coziest, most unique little theater I have ever seen! When we arrived, it was rainy and dark. With the blinds drawn shut and the older-looking shopping center dimly lit, I wondered if we were even in the right place. However, when we walked in, I was taken aback. Decorated with black and white film shots covering the walls, red velvet curtains, 1920s antique couches, lamps, and rugs, it was so unique! The theatre also served complimentary snacks and drinks, a wonderful touch! Let me tell you, wine and popcorn equals happy Sof. There was also coffee and cookies if that is more your vibe. We saw the 8:00 PM showing of “A Few Good Men,” and the acting was superb.

My hands-down favorite breakfast spot in Richardson was Fairview Farmers. The presentation was gorgeous, and the taste was so rich. My favorite meal was the breakfast skillet (they have so many). Some other breakfast recommendations that we received from locals were the Lone Spur Cafe and Eddie’s Diner. If you are a pizza and wine lover, a great casual dinner spot is Sixty Vines. For a warm, quaint, and  romantic bistro, try Toulouse Cafe & Bar. For funky tacos try the Velvet Taco. For premier steak, try Bob’s Steak and Chop House. For the best burgers, beers, and cocktails, try Rodeo Goat. For Phenomenal Mexican food, try Mi Cocina. Other great Mexican spots are Meso Maya, Casa Mama, and Mesero.

Our main reason for coming to Texas on this particular trip was to attend a good friend’s wedding, which took place in Richardson at the Chapel of the Heights Church. It was a beautiful wedding, and the reception was held in a super cute, intimate Art Deco, rustic venue called 34 Events in historic downtown Richardson.

Richardson, Texas, is a city that beautifully blends the modernity of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with a welcoming, small-town atmosphere. With abundant hidden gems, cultural diversity, and plenty of recreational activities, it's no wonder that Richardson has become an excellent spot for a short visit. Richardson proved that every place, big or small, is full of hidden gems well worth the research and while. Come and discover the charm of this vibrant Texan city for yourself!

Taking You On The Perfect Weekend Getaway In Boulder, Colorado

Taking You On The Perfect Weekend Getaway In Boulder, Colorado

The Boulder Farmers Market on Saturday Morning is a must! Find the most fresh produce, food trucks, coffee, and other goods here on Pearl Street. Once you finish with the Boulder Farmers Market, mozy around Pearl Street. Don't forget to visit our favorite stores, Peppercorn, Where The Buffalo Roam, Art Source International, Art Mart, and Jones + Co. Also, all outdoor stores have a shop on Pearl Street.

Another great spot in Boulder is the campus of Colorado University. Explore the stone architecture, attend the summer Shakespeare Festival, and visit or walk around CU's Museum of Natural History, Art Museum, and Heritage Center. Other noteworthy Boulder museums are the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, the Boulder Museum, The Gallery at the Bus Stop Apartments, and East Window.

If you enjoy a good "walk in the park," check out Wonderland Park, Shanahan Ridge Park, Marshal Mesa, and Crestview Park.

The best Boulder coffee spots are the Laughing Goat Coffee, Moxie Bread Co., Amante Coffee, Red Rock Coffee, and Ozo Coffee. Our top picks for brunch are Luciles Creole Cafe, Walnut Cafe, The Buff, Doug’s Diner, Snooze, The Parkway Cafe, and Dot’s Diner

Our favorite lunch spots are Mountain Sun (a sister restaurant of the Southern Sun), Le Frigo, Le French Cafe, Shamane's Bakery, and Wayne's Smoke Shack. The Brisket and Banana Pudding are incredible at Wayne's, but be sure to get there early as they open at 11:00 AM and close when they run out.

Try the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, Salt, and The Kitchen American Bistro for a more upscale lunch or happy hour in and around the famous Pearl Street. The Cuban Sandwich and Carrot appetizer in the Kitchen will keep you wanting more.

For an upscale Dinner, Japango’s sushi is out of this world, and Frasca Food and Wine is a renowned dinner spot with a seasonal menu, perfect for a special occasion. If you are into luxurious Spanish meats and Tapas, try Corrida. For a fabulous view, visit the Flagstaff House and for A+ ribeye specials and flatiron steak, visit Cork. Carelli's has the best Italian cuisine in Boulder, and the garlic bread is "to die for." I highly recommend the Ravioli in vodka sauce or the Pesto Penne. For an American Bistro, try Oak at Fourteenth and for an original farmhouse kitchen, try Bramble and Hare; for great seafood, try Jacks on Pearl.

If you are looking for dinner and a show, the Boulder Dinner Theater has excellent performers and delicious food! We saw the Sound of Music there and had chicken cordon bleu, German chocolate cake, and coffee at intermission.

Colorado is known for its brewing, especially in Boulder. Boulder's best local beer can be found at the following breweries: Bohemian Biergarten, The Southern Sun and Mountain Sun, Avery, Twisted Pine, Senitas, and Upslope. If you venture outside of Boulder, try 4 Noses in Broomfield, Trve, Melvin and Oskar Blues in Denver, and New Image Brewing in Arvada. Try the Nachos, Chorizo Cheese Fries, and on-the-house sours at New Image!

Besides a cold beer, another excellent way to cool down from the Boulder heat is the Boulder Reservoir—Kayak or paddleboard in the fresh cool water with a stunning view of the Mountains.

There is abundant hiking around Boulder. Our favorite trails are the Flat Irons, Green Mountain West, Senitas, Royal Arch, Rattlesnake Gulch, Doudy Draw, and Bear Peak.

A staple of Boulder is the Flat Irons. A popular and very close hike is the First and Second Flatirons Loop. This short (2.7 miles) yet challenging trek takes you on a loop around the first and second Flat Irons with an Elevation gain of 1,427 ft. Keep in mind that the trail shifts to being extremely rocky, and during colder months (after October), hikers should bring microspikes or crampons as this route can get snowy and icy, significantly closer to the top!

Green Mountain West Ridge Trail is a 3.8-mile out-and-back trail with a 682 ft elevation gain that gives you fantastic views of the Front Range and the Flatirons, with a vast panorama at the top of the hike. This hike is excellent all year round, but the best time to hike the trail is March through November. This hike takes an average of 1 hour and 48 minutes to complete. Remember, it is considered a more challenging route, and dogs aren't allowed on this trail.

Mount Sanitas hike is a personal favorite. This 3.2-mile hike gains a 1,256 ft elevation over 2.15 hours. This challenging loop starts at the Centennial Trailhead on Sunshine Canyon Drive. The peak offers beautiful views, with enough challenge to get you sweating. From this trailhead, you follow a steady incline trail north on Mount Sanitas Trail. Keep in mind that sturdy boots are needed due to a sometimes washed-out trail with parched dirt in the summer. The summit of Mount Sanitas has a spectacular view of Boulder and the mountains to the north and west.

Royal Arch is a challenging 3.4-mile out-and-back hike that is popular for snowshoeing and running. Royal Arch has a 1,469 ft elevation gain, and the best time to hike it is March through October.

Rattlesnake Gulch Trail is a 3.6-mile loop hike that is beautiful year-round. Rattlesnake Gulch is a popular and more relaxed trail for hiking and snowshoeing and has a 974 ft elevation gain.

Doudy Draw is a moderately challenging 4.9-mile hike with a 587 elevation gain. It is popular for hiking, mountain biking, and running.

If you are looking for heights, check out Bear Peak - The highest peak in Boulder. Bear Peak is a 8.2-mile out-and-back trail with a 2,906 ft elevation gain. It is challenging and popular for hiking and running.

    Top Notch Local Eats

While not technically food, the Candy Kitchen in Madeira Beach is a mom-and-pop shop that sells candy from all decades. From the "Bean Boozled" Jelly beans to the original Whatchamacallit, you are bound to find something you remember from childhood.

For outstanding drinks with flair and flavor, try Saigon Blonde! This 60s-inspired restaurant and bar exudes an inviting atmosphere with its tropical décor, including flickering tiki totems and murals. The tiki bar gives way to a tropical lounge with lanterns, plush furniture, and eclectic paintings. At the very back of the room, you can find the military bar. With two separate and unique bars, tropical seating areas, and a beautiful second-floor lounge, Saigon Blonde is a prime spot for any occasion.

The menu is full of delicious fresh cocktails that reflect the flavors and feel of the Pacific Rim. Many of the cocktails are made with fresh ingredients from their garden and Asian liquors. Saigon Blonde has a diverse food selection, including Vietnamese dishes to modern street food flavors. They also offer many vegan options.

Saigon Blonde also has a legend to the name! During the Vietnam War, Saigon Lounge was a bar in the capital of Vietnam. The owner was a beautiful blonde Vietnamese and French woman. Locals and soldiers loved her bar! She had two rules: no weapons allowed, and have fun! In a time of war, anyone was welcome. The most moving museum to see when in Saint Pete is the Holocaust Museum. This museum is a memorable space dedicated to preserving the stories and lives of those lost during one of the most horrific periods in history. Built in 1992, it serves as a memorial to Holocaust survivors and their families, highlighting their experiences and showcasing both personal artifacts and informative displays. As one of the largest Holocaust museums in the nation, the Florida Holocaust Museum is also a reminder that such tragic events should never be forgotten. The museum features several galleries, filling visitors with an understanding of how discrimination and prejudice can have devastating outcomes. Some exhibits feature the stories of Holocaust survivors and their families, as well as sections dedicated to exploring the history of antisemitism and racism during World War II. There is also a Hall of Remembrance, which is designed as a place to remember and honor those lives taken in the Holocaust. Exploring the Timeless Beauty of Rome, Italy

Exploring the Timeless Beauty of Rome, Italy

    A Journey Through History

Rome's history spans over 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. From its legendary founding by Romulus and Remus to its evolution into the capital of the mighty Roman Empire, the city has played a pivotal role in shaping Western civilization.

Rome is a treasure trove of architectural marvels that showcase the skill and creativity of generations past. The Colosseum, an imposing amphitheater, symbolizes ancient Roman engineering and entertainment. Its grandeur and the stories of gladiators and epic battles that once took place within its walls continue to inspire awe. If you are taking a tour, book the ground flour tour. You will need half a day to explore the Colosseum.

Another architectural gem is the Pantheon, a feat of engineering and design with its perfectly preserved dome and oculus. Originally built as a temple to honor the gods, the Pantheon's dome remains the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world, a testament to the ingenuity of Roman architects. It is a quick visit and larger than most expect!

    Architectural Marvels

Another exciting spot is Largo di Torre Argentina, where Julius Caesar was assassinated. Also known as the Area Sacra, this area is a large sunken square containing the ruins of four ancient temples and the Curia of Pompey. Area Sacra is another quick visit.

For more historical sites, visit the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument and the Forum and Palatine Hill. The Victor Emmanuel II National Monument is a large national monument built between 1885 and 1935 to honor Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy. The iconic Roman Forum, a sprawling archaeological site, offers a glimpse into ancient Rome's political, social, and religious life. Walking through these ancient ruins, one can almost hear the echoes of the past and imagine the grandeur of the empire that once ruled a vast expanse of the world.

The Forum and Palatine Hill are where you can find Octavian's (also known as Ceaser Agustus) house, the imperial palace, and where Romulus, the founder of Rome, lived. You will need a full day or two to explore the vast area has a multitude of history.

All the churches in Rome are spectacular. You can walk into any for a beautiful historical and moving site. A favorite church in Rome was Sant'Ignazio of Loyola Church.

    Vatican City: A Spiritual Center

Nestled within the city of Rome, Vatican City is the smallest independent state in the world and the spiritual epicenter of the Roman Catholic Church. Home to the awe-inspiring St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums, this tiny enclave is a pilgrimage site for millions of faithful and art enthusiasts.

St. Peter's Basilica, with its imposing dome and breathtaking interior, is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. The Vatican Museums house an extraordinary collection of art and artifacts amassed by the Catholic Church over centuries, including Michelangelo's stunning frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Remember, you must walk up the dome about 500 stairs to get to the top of St. Peter's Basilica. Pay a bit extra to take the elevator or wear comfy shoes because you still need to walk 300 stairs even with taking the elevator. Don't forget to tour the Sistine Chapel. With all its facets, you can spend as little as one and as many as three days at the Vatican. They have self-guided and private tours. Don't forget to book entry & all tours.

    The Art

If you are a lover of "Arte," the Borghese art museum is a must-see. Here, explore the works of Raphael, such as Young Woman with Unicorn, and works by Caravaggio. This museum is also one of the few sites where you don't need to pre-book or get a guide. However, the museum only allows a certain number of people each hour.

    Culinary Delights

Italian cuisine is renowned worldwide, and Rome is no exception. From classic pasta dishes like carbonara and cacio e pepe to mouth-watering pizzas and gelato, the city's culinary scene is a delight for the senses. Trattorias and osterias line the charming cobblestone streets, offering a chance to savor authentic flavors passed down through generations. Our top picks for all things “buonissimo” are Tempio di Bacco, Gallura. Tempio di Bacco is a delicious local spot where the owner is quite friendly. Gallura is outstanding dining with a modern twist. Don't forget to stop for gelato.

    Exploring the Neighborhoods

Rome's neighborhoods each have a unique character and charm. With its narrow streets and colorful buildings, Trastevere exudes a bohemian atmosphere. The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain are located in the charming area of Piazza di Spagna. The Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps are gorgeous. At the top of the Spanish Steps, The Church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti can be found. At the same time, the historic Jewish Ghetto offers a glimpse into a lesser-known facet of Rome's history.

McKinney - The Most Adorable Town in Texas

McKinney - The Most Adorable Town in Texas

We started our Travel Brat Texas trip by flying Delta into Dallas, picking up a car from my fave new rental car company, Thrifty, and scooting over to the most beautiful little historic town.

The historic town of McKinney, Texas, was about 45 minutes from the airport and a must-visit hidden gem on the outskirts of Dallas! We stayed in the most charming hotel- The Grand Hotel of McKinney

The Grand Hotel was built in 1885 by the Heard Brothers. When built, the Grand consisted of an original 14 rooms, a Grand Ballroom, and Rick's Chophouse. It was only 15,000 square feet! Later, the Tower was added, expanding the hotel to 45 rooms.

From the Willy Nelson book in our room to the Grand Ballroom and rustic red brick walls, the Grand Hotel was charming from head to toe. My favorite part was the tasteful paintings on every floor and in every room, and the little library at the end of the hall right by our room!

Check out the Grand Hotel's Experience Page for the 411 on McKinney.

The town of McKinney was quaint and charming. For morning coffee, there are two great spots: Layered and Filtered. Layered had the best hot chocolate and a killer lavender late. The most remarkable addition to the restaurant was the little robot cat tray that brought out our food. Filtered has live music along with Cadillac Pizza, Harvest, Lone Star Wine, The Pub, The Celt, and Rick's Lounge. These spots, as well as Room One Eleven, and Barron Creek are also great for a cold crisp beer.

If you are staying in McKinney, you must take the day to mozy around and visit all the adorable little shops and stores. Some town favorites are Ambrosia, Little Red Hen, Birds & Words, Antique Company, Homeology, Fair & Square, Sharla's, and Cotton Hearts.Other must-try restaurants in McKinney are The Yard, Local Yocal, Patina Green, and Urban Grill

For Historical cities, check out Chestnut Square Heritage Village, Collin County Farm Museum, Collin County History Museum, Heard Natural Science Museum, and the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts. For a great show, check out the McKinney Performing Arts Center.

McKinney has a plethora of art and antiques. Explore the art at Kim Guthrie Antique Company, MillHouse, and The Last Art Gallery.

Be sure to bring an umbrella so that you can stay dry! Texas weather is totally unpredictable! McKinney is a small town, so I recommend visiting for one to three days maximum.

It's Always an Adventure in Antwerp!

It's Always an Adventure in Antwerp!

Welcome to Antwerp, Belgium! Antwerp is one of the oldest cities in Belgium and is in the Flanders region. It is known for its stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine.

This vibrant city is located on the banks of the Scheldt River and is home to some of the most incredible sights in all of Europe.

I (Natalie) visited in the Fall of 2021 with my family. I have a great uncle who lives there, and my parents, my sister, my niece, and I visited him and this beautiful city. We started the day by taking the train from Brussels to Antwerp to meet my great-uncle at a cafe for some delicious coffee and treats. The station in Antwerp is one of the most unique and beautiful in the country! My great-uncle took us all around!

We walked around the main square, but we stayed pretty much in the same area, aside from when we went to walk along the river for a little bit. The weather was frigid that day! We stayed for a short time, but it was fun to see such a historic city, meet my great-uncle, and spend time with him. It was fun to see how similar he was to my grandma, and he and my dad enjoyed speaking in Dutch with each other, although his English is excellent! That's the case for most of the Dutch and Flemish people.

Antwerp is one of the oldest cities in Belgium and is known for its stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine! Lots of good Flemish dishes to be had. Including Flemish stew! We ate lunch at a restaurant near the Cathedral of Our Lady, which we spent a while touring. The cathedral was built in 1352!

The cultural scene in Antwerp is vibrant and alive. The city is home to numerous festivals and events throughout the year that celebrate the art and culture of the city. Visitors can explore the city's many art galleries, music venues, and theaters. Antwerp is also home to some of the best restaurants in Belgium. Whether you're looking for traditional Belgian dishes or something more exotic, Antwerp has something for everyone.

Antwerp is also a great place to shop. The city is home to numerous high-end boutiques, designer stores, and unique shops. Shopping in Antwerp is a great way to get a feel for the city and experience the local culture.

Fun WW2 fact: Antwerp is a deep-water inland port close to Germany. It is connected to the North Sea via the river Scheldt, allowing ocean-going ships to be passed. Following the destruction of Rotterdam in 1940, Antwerp was the largest surviving port in Western Europe and the obvious choice to support an invasion of Germany - helping the Allied powers win the war!

Whether you're looking to explore the city's history and culture, enjoy the vibrant nightlife, or shop till you drop, Antwerp is the perfect destination. So don't miss out on the chance to visit this amazing city!

The Most Popular Wedding Destination in the US, Estes Park

The Most Popular Wedding Destination in the US, Estes Park

For those couples looking for a wedding with plenty of activities, Estes Park is perfect! With abundant outdoor activities, your wedding party can come together in nature's finest playgrounds. Estes Park has something for everyone, from hiking trails and backcountry camping to golf courses and ski slopes.

With Rocky Mountain National Park only a ten-minute drive from Estes, the bride, groom, and all their guests have time to explore. The park has hiking trails; if you want to avoid hiking, you can drive through the entire park! Some of my favorite animals in the park are foxes, mule deer, big horned sheep, elk, rocky mountain elk, moose, coyote, mountain Lion, black bears, and yellow-bellied marmot.

When it comes to breathtaking scenery, Estes Park has a rocky mountain backdrop that is perfect for your big day. Whether you host your wedding outdoors or inside one of the Park's many luxurious venues, the area's stunning natural beauty will be hard to miss. I recommend staying in the Black Canyon Inn, which has the best view of the Estes Valley and surrounding mountains, or the historic Stanley Hotel, where the shining was filmed. The Stanley also has Spirited Night Tours and delicious food at their Cascades Restaurant & Lounge and The Post Chicken & Beer bar. The Cascades whiskey bar has fantastic drinks and some of the best lamb lobster bisk I have ever tasted! The post is a top-notch spot for brunch after a wedding, and it also has dinner and excellent hot chicken.

Other top-notch breakfast, brunch, and lunch spots are Notch Top Bakery & Cafe, Mountain Home Cafe, The Egg of Estes, Kind Coffee, and the Big Horn Restaurant.

Notch Top Bakery & Cafe is located in Stanley Village Shopping Center. It is usually crowded but has excellent food and pretty decor. Mountain Home Cafe is also located in the Stanley Village Shopping Center but has a more casual atmosphere. The Egg of Estes is located in downtown Estes. It is diner-style with a relaxed atmosphere. I enjoyed it so much that I returned several times on our trip. Kind Coffee is located at the beginning of downtown Estes. Parking is a bit difficult here, but it is excellent for a quick breakfast. They have great Coffee, bagels, and burritos. Big Horn Restaurant is located at the end of Main Street and has a casual atmosphere.

The shopping and dining in Estes Park offer a surprising variety for a small town. From local boutiques and antique stores to incredible restaurants and dining experiences, there's something for everyone. My favorite store was The Christmas Shoppe where my husband and I found some memorable gifts for the whole family.

For dinner, stop at the Dunraven or Bird and Jim. The Dunraven has a beautiful lake view in the valley of Estes, and The Birds Nest is a great rehearsal dinner spot. By day, it’s only a coffee shop, but the second floor is a beautiful event space.  Food is catered by the first-class restaurant across the street called Bird and Jim. If you are looking for a chill brewery for a meet and greet or to hang with friends, check out The Barrel or The Wheel Bar

Whatever you're looking for, whether it's gifts for your wedding party or the perfect dress for your big day, Estes Park has it all! With its natural beauty, abundant activities, and countless shopping and dining options, Estes Park is the perfect destination for your wedding this season. Whether planning an extravagant affair or a cozy gathering of family and friends, Estes Park will surely provide unforgettable memories on your special day. So, what are you waiting for?
