Hosts Adolph Mongo, Vanessa Moss and Allan Lengel talk with Joan Merriewether, a former Detroit Police officer and sheriff's deputy, who is running to unseat incumbent Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington. Merriewether broke ground in her career, becoming the first female helicopter pilot for Detroit Police and the first African American female helicopter for law enforcement in the nation.

The group also talks with Eric Brown, a literacy advocate, about the challenges of fighting illiteracy.

Wayne County Executive Warren Evans said Saturday that he's considering a run for mayor of Detroit and will make up his mind in a couple months.

Evans, who has been the county executive since 2015, also talked about the new criminal justice complex at I-75 and Warren Avenue that has a 2,280-bed jail, a criminal courthouse and a juvenile facility. He said he expects to get the keys to the facility in about 30 days and then prepare to move inmates in. 

Evans made his remarks during his appearance on the weekly videocast/podcast, "Detroit in Black and White," with co-hosts Adolph Mongo, Vanessa Moss and Allan Lengel.
