"They say when you die, you don't go to heaven... You go to The Philippines!" This is a very special (Leah's) birthday episode about the time she visited the motherland: the Philippines! Erin from Alpaca My Bags invited Leah on the show to talk about heritage travel, what it's like traveling to a country that could be considered "home", and growing up as a first-generation American.

This Philippines trip took place from January 2020-February 2020, just in time. This month-long pilgrimage to the motherland was spent half with travelers and locals met in hostels, and the other half was spent with family island hopping and going to weddings!

Listen in closely to see how this trip impacted Leah's adult life and the way she travels now. We hope you consider a 2+ week trip to this wonderful Southeast Asian country.

How often do you return to the same place?

This episode takes us back to visiting New Orleans in 2008 for a collegiate marketing conference versus visiting in 2022 for a women's travel conference. In our former trips to the city in 2008, 2010, and 2011, all we cared about was drinking, partying, and eating whatever we could afford, with 6 of us packed into a Sheraton room on Canal.

Flash forward 11+ years later, and we're exploring every oyster house, coffee shop, walking tour,  and bike route New Orleans has to offer. With a little more time, a lot more motivation and way more money, we explored The Big Easy exactly the way we wanted, all while meeting incredible global women at Wanderfest, hosted by Wanderful.

What is Wanderfest? What to do with a weekend in New Orleans? What does fried alligator actually taste like? To answer all these questions and more, listen up! 

You probably searched "Wanderfest" or "Wanderful" and came across this episode. A global women's travel community called Wanderful, hosted an outdoor festival filled with speakers, music, celebration and food in New Orleans this past weekend in March and it is the first festival of its kind! 

We took to the streets (Canal, Bourbon, and inside the actual conference) to ask guests what their experience has been like in this vibrant city, spending days exploring and meeting up with fellow women in travel, content creators, dreamers, and doers.

For many of us, it was our first time meeting up in person in years. The energy, motivation, and connection found at this festival was unmatched and definitely provided fuel for the weekend.

Guaranteed this will be the only inspiration you'll need to attend Wanderfest every year for years to come!

Traveling solo? Have you ever wanted to learn how to best protect yourself in unfamiliar settings? Is self-defense something you've always wanted to start but never prioritized?

Enter Rebecca Ahn, a world traveller who is now teaching self-defense classes to fellow travelers through her organization, Tough Cookie.  She noticed that most of the self-defense classes she came across were run by men and not focused on the needs of women, so she did the dang thing... and created her own!

Rebecca is the ultimate multi-hypenate: a self-defense instructor, martial artist, and former corporate ladder climber and Hollywood stunt women who left Hollywood a couple of years ago to travel and do the van life before the pandemic hit. Rebecca has survived violence and abuse and has turned her life around to empower women to protect and save themselves.

Meggie Tran, also known as Mindful Meggie, started a travel blog focusing on mental health during the pandemic. She wanted to explore deeper than pretty travel pictures over famous landmarks. Meggie joins Ticket 2 Anywhere podcast this week to detail her journey as a Vietnamese-American who is diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and social anxiety, and what her triggers are especially while traveling. 

You get answers in this episode on travel + mental health on: what exactly OCD is and how it's one of the most misunderstood mental illnesses, how to talk about OCD around others, and how to practice more mindfulness while traveling. 

This was an emotional episode for all parties, so we thank you for allowing us to share our vulnerabilities with you.
