Ep. 386: Chris Gethard on Dominik “Dom Dom” Mysterio

We’ve got brand new merch available! Go to the MaxFun Store and get the latest Ice Cream Christmas shirt in time for WrestleMania weekend.

Get down with Dom Dom! It’s a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

We’re joined this week by Chris Gethard. He’s a comedian and longtime wrestling fan who’s new book is entitled Dad at Peace. He’ll tell us stories about becoming friends with Sami Zayn and hanging out backstage at wrestling shows.

This past weekend, Perth, Australia hosted Elimination Chamber, the final PLE before WrestleMania. The responses were middling, but the event did succeed in setting up the WWE’s biggest show of the year. The team discusses their opinions on why every match was at least worth watching on Saturday.

Plus, a love tribute to Virgil, an underrated wrestling icon of a bygone era.

    The Main Event

Ever since his WWE debut, Dominik Mysterio was dismissed as little more than a nepo baby hire. And these days he arguably gets more heat than anyone else in the company BECAUSE he's a nepo baby hire! And a goth!

    The Three Count

Julian put over a shoutout to the naysayers.

Lindsey put over the OK show.

    Rerun: WrestleMania 33

    Rerun: WrestleMania 33

    This episode originally aired 2018

The team revisits WrestleMania 33. An event that was mostly forgettable, but had a lasting impact on the modern landscape of wrestling.

Bear witness to such matches as Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho-- a match that Vince McMahon hated and that lead to Jericho leaving WWE and appearing in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Plus, Roman Reigns becomes just the second man to defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania. And in perhaps the most surprising Mania return ever: The Hardyz return to WWE and win the RAW tag team championships.

Ep. 385: Heel Rock with LaToya Ferguson

Ep. 385: Heel Rock with LaToya Ferguson

Rocky’s gone to the dark side! We’ll discuss it all on a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

LaToya Ferguson is a writer and podcaster who rejoins the show after an extended absence. We’re in the final days before Elimination Chamber, the last show before WrestleMania.

We’ll discuss everything from the increased focus on tag teams in WWE, Bayley’s relationship with Dakota Kai and how to properly balance watching wrestling with your mother and dog.

    The Main Event

After a chaotic week deciding the main event of WrestleMania 40, not only does Cody have his match back. But for the first time in over a decade, the Rock is officially a heel. Latoya was actually involved in the "WWE Evil," a series that took a look back on the bad guys in wrestling. So what better person to talk about Rocky's return to the dark side and where he stacks up with the villains of the past.

    The Three Count

    LaToya put over Queen Aminata.

Lindsey put over Rhea Ripley trending in two companies.

Hal put over they're in the judgment day.

Ep. 384: The Main Event of WrestleMania XL

Ep. 384: The Main Event of WrestleMania XL

What a chaotic week for wrestling, and this time it was for reasons that are more fun to talk about–so let’s do just that on a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

There were some fun wrestling developments: The tag titles are getting a lot of love. Bayley will face Iyo Sky for the WWE women’s championship. But we know what everyone REALLY wants to talk about…

    The Main Event

When Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row, it was heavily implied that he would take on Roman Reigns to try and finish the story at WrestleMania in Philadelphia. But Cody would surprise everyone on Smackdown by  saying that WrestleMania was NOT where he would face Roman, but that he got in contact with The Rock to "take everything" away from the champion.

We're recording this on Friday. Thursday was WWE big play to pivot at their WrestleMania kick off event in Las Vegas. The Rock played up his family ties, his heeldom and his alliance with Roman Reigns… And Cody reversed course and chose Roman as his opponent at WrestleMania.

    The Three Count

Danielle put over believing in Batista.

Lindsey put over Bayley deserving respect as the rumble winner.

Hal put over Brody Lee Jr. learning to wrestle.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Ep. 383: The 2023 Royal Rumble & The End of Vince McMahon

Ep. 383: The 2023 Royal Rumble & The End of Vince McMahon

It was an absolutely massive Royal Rumble weekend— and it had relatively little to do with the wrestling itself. We’ll talk about it all on a brand new episode of  Tights and Fights!

Cody Rhodes and Bayley are the winners of the 2023 rumbles. Cody gets a chance to finally finish his story while Bayley gets the singles showcase that she earned years ago.

The women’s rumble kicked off the show and had tons of surprises. Jordynne Grace came out with the TNA Knockouts championship belt in tow; Naomi made her long-awaited return; and Jade Cargill finally debuted.

The men’s rumble was comparatively light on surprises; that probably has to do with the fact that it was heavily reworked in light of the massive news from the Wall Street Journal. Speaking of which…

    The Main Event

Vince McMahon has once again left WWE. After details of his harassment lawsuit were published in the Wall Street Journal in 2022, he left the company only to force his way back in the following year. Last Thursday even more horrific details were published in a follow-up story. We discuss everything that we saw in the report and how WWE handled it breaking on one of their biggest weekends of the year.

    The Three Count

Danielle put over Paddington in the Rumble.

Lindsey put over anything from R-Truth.

Hal put over one specific instance from R-Truth.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

Ep. 382: The 2018 Royal Rumble

Ep. 382: The 2018 Royal Rumble

Note: This episode was recorded BEFORE the article about Vince McMahon was published in the Wall Street Journal

It’s Royal Rumble weekend and it’s time to celebrate on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

There’s a lot of changes coming to WWE near the end of the year. We already knew about Smackdown moving to USA Network and NXT moving to the CW. Now we’ve learned that RAW will make the jump to Netflix. We’ll discuss what this means for us.

    The Main Event

2018 was a massive Royal Rumble: Shinsuke Nakamura’s biggest win ever! Asuka wins the first ever women’s Rumble! Ronda Rousey debuts in WWE! We were excited about two of those. In a segment previously recorded in 2018, Hal, Danielle, Lindsey and Mike Eagle discuss the event.

    The Three Count

Lindsey put over Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins on GQ.

Julian put over the new era of TNA.

Danielle put over refs in the new WWE 2K24 videogame.

Ep. 381: The 2005 Royal Rumble

Ep. 381: The 2005 Royal Rumble

You’re gonna want to sit down for this brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

As people begin to shout their intentions to win the Royal Rumble, there is one name that stands out to Hal, Danielle and Lindsey: Gunther. Where does the Intercontinental Champion fit into the big match?

Plus, Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley looks like it’s finally happening. As long as there are more promos like Monday on the horizon, sign us up.

    The Main Event

The year was 2005. WWE was ready to crown two brand new stars at Wrestlemania 21. That effort began in earnest at the 2005 Royal Rumble match. The match went on to become one of the most impressive and chaotic in the history of the event.

    The Three Count

Hal put over Grayson Waller standing up for the wrestling business.

Lindsey put over the Wrestling family’s journey to RAW.

Ep. 380: The Iron Claw + The Legacy of the Von Erichs

Ep. 380: The Iron Claw + The Legacy of the Von Erichs

Welcome back Darnell Mitchell for the second time to Tights and Fights!

And welcome friends to spinning-their-wheels season, the time of year just before WrestleMania where everyone pretends that they have a chance to win the Royal Rumble and have a title match at the WWE’s biggest show of the year.

Jinder Mahal is getting a lot of attention, both on TV and in his title match; but is it possible that he might actually deliver despite whatever misgivings people may have about him getting this spot?

Plus, Darnell is a professional fashion expert so let’s get his take on Scarlett’s new look and the suit game of the Street Profits and Bobby Lashley.

    The Main Event

For years, the story of the Von Erichs was one of the most tragic in wrestling. They were one of wrestling's most famous families before nearly all of them tragically died in rapid succession. Now more people than ever will know their story with the release of the film The Iron Claw.

    The Three Count

Darnell put over R-Truth working with the Judgment Day.

Lindsey put over the WWE’s Live tour stopping in Los Angeles.

Danielle put over Tony Atlas on Twitter.

Ep. 379: The Rock vs. Roman (?) with Darnell Mitchell

Welcome to the first episode of Tights and Fights in the year 2024!

We’re joined once again by our old pal Darnell Mitchell. He has a lot of experience booking wrestling shows as well as watching as a fan. He’ll explain how his fandom evolved after the pandemic.

Darnell, Hal and Danielle will take a look at the first major news of the year: the dismissal of Kevin Dunn from WWE. He’s one of the company's longest tenured producers who many wrestlers have some intense feelings about.

Plus the team takes a look at WWE Day 1, a night that featured a lot of women’s wrestling.

    The Main Event

After years of ghosting WWE, The Rock is finally back for more than a brief one-off: He all but confirmed that he's got his sights set on the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.

    The Three Count

Darnell put over Toni Storm in the AEW World’s End media scrum.

Danielle put over the Maximum Male Models recounting a journey through France.

Hal put over Cody paying for The Wrestle Club to WrestleMania (hopefully not Scott’s Tots Style).

Ep. 378: 2023 Review and Superplexatives

It’s the end of the year and there’s so much wrestling to look back on on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights.

From the mercurial CM Punk news cycle to live events from around the world, there’s so much to discuss.

Plus: we give out another round of recognitions from wrestling known as “Superplexatives”-- we’re making up the categories and spotlighting the winners. Best slow clap moment of the year? Best wrestler in a non-wrestling setting? And those are just the beginning!

    The Three Count

Lindsey and put over The Iron Claw puppy interview

Danielle put over the same thing that Lindsey did, duh.

Hal put over Bayley hating Michael Cole for Christmas.

Ep. 377: Wrestling Recast - WWElf

Ep. 377: Wrestling Recast - WWElf

It’s time for another edition of Wrestling Recast where Tights and Fights takes famous movies and stage shows and reimagines them to feature wrestlers in every role.

This time, it’s the 2003 film Elf. Will Ferrell’s holiday classic celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. But which wrestlers would endear it to an audience of marks? John Cena as Buddy! Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat as Papa Elf! And of course… Mick Foley as Santa Claus.

    The Three Count

Julian put over WWE’s (far inferior) version of Elf.

Danielle put over Toni Storm getting the TCM intro

Hal put over CM Punk and Seth Rollins' first meeting.

Ep. 376: The Evolution and Legacy of Randy Orton

Do you hear voices in your head?! They counsel you, they understand that it’s a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

This week is a super sized Main Event devoted to the recently returned Randy Orton.

He’s been with the WWE for more than 20 years and, despite just recovering from double fusion back surgery, he insists that he has more left in the tank; he aims to wrestle for another decade.

This show covers some of Randy Orton’s biggest events from the Randy News Network to his time in Evolution to all those RKOs outta nowhere.

    The Three Count

Lindsey put over reactions to The Iron Claw from non-wrestling fans.

Danielle put over Liv Morgan ruining relationships

    375: What’s up R-Truth

    375: What’s up R-Truth

People over there, what’s up?! It’s a brand new episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

Danielle is back and she can’t keep CM Punk’s name out of her mouth. She’ll speculate about how he fits in to WWE.

Meanwhile, Lindsey laments that Seth Rollins has been allowed steam roll through all of our favorite baby faces, including his latest victim Jey Uso. Maybe that’s all in service of making him look as good as possible for a certain Pepsi drinker on the roster?

    The Main Event: R-Truth

R-Truth is hardly ever a big part of WWE. But he's almost always a special part of the show. He's wrestled for decades, won champions and has some of the best comedic senses of anyone in the game.

Hosted by Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk

Produced by Julian Burrell for Maximum Fun.

    The Three Count

Lindsey put over DIY vs. Imperium

Julian put over Tony Khan’s awful twitter habit

Ep. 374 Survivor Series: War Games 2023

It’s time to share war stories on the latest episode of the Tights and Fights podcast!

Hal and Lindsey discuss the women once again stealing the show in the women’s version of War Games. Risks were taken and even though it not clear if everyone was on equal footing in terms of their star power, there was still a lot to enjoy.

There were also some matches that flew lower on the radar between the IC title bought, Santos Escobar vs. Dragon Lee and Rhea Ripley vs. Zoe Stark.

The Main Event: R-Truth, Randy Orton and CM Punk

Saturday featured the return of three major stars for WWE. We start at the least problematic co-worker and go through each of them to decide how they fit into the current WWE landscape… and whether signing them could be a massive mistake.

    Ep. 372.5: WWECW

    Ep. 372.5: WWECW

Hal Lublin is joined by producer Julian Burrell to talk about one of the most memorable failures that WWE ever attempted: The resurrection of the ECW brand and promotion.

In 2006, a year after a successful ECW “One Night Stand” PPV, WWE decided to bring back Extreme Championship Wrestling as their third brand. First they wanted it to be a web exclusive show that Shane McMahon would be in charge of. But they eventually got Sci-Fi Network to buy in and settled on ECW, the weekly TV show.

    Ep. 372: Tag Team Wrestling

Tag made! It’s a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Halloween has come and gone and while that means we got to have a lot of fun this week… it also means that wrestling got sent to the back burner for Lindsey.

But never fear, Hal and Danielle will catch her up on some of the biggest news. Not the least of which is LA Knight and his path to Roman’s hit list and increasing his star power before the road to Mania.

The Main Event: Tag Team Wrestling

Tag team wrestling is one of the biggest parts of wrestling history. Stars can be created as teams rise to the top together and when they inevitably break up. So we're going to take a look at the art of fwendship and teamwork.

    The Three Count:

Danielle put over Bayley finally getting to take on Michael Cole.

Lindsey put over Finn finally having a carb.

Ep. 371: Spooky scary wrestling w/ James A. Janisse

It’s the spookiest time of year! But don’t be scared because we’ve brought on the owner and advocate of the Halloween season James A. Janisse! He’s best known for “The Kill Count” series on his YouTube channel “Dead Meat.” We catch up on all the latest wrestling that he’s gotten a chance to see despite his busy schedule this month.

That includes the character development of LA Knight and Drew McIntyre, Halloween Havoc on NXT, Jade Cargill being treated like royalty on WWE TV and so much more.

The Main Event: Horror and wrestling

The intersection of horror and wrestling is a long and storied one. We discuss some of the biggest wrestlers that dipped into the macabre including The Boogeyman, Bray Wyatt, Papa Shango and more. Spin the wheel, make the deal!

    The Three Count:
