    ABOUT THE HOST

My name is Margaret V Aberdeen, host of “TODAY I AM ALIVE!” A lot people know me for being a unique, enthusiastic, vibrant, invincible, infectious, passionate woman that brings "LIGHT" to people’s lives.

I AM an Infinite Spiritual Being, and my present roles are a Domestic Abuse, Cancer and Near-Death Experience Thriving Survivor, Award Inspirational Speaker, Author of Priceless Roles of a Mother, Poet, Coach and Nature Lover, and I have experienced some dark life-threatening traumas in this world…

Including child abuse and almost being killed by a former partner which instigated the tragic loss of my second son, plus kidney, and brain cancerous tumours, and years of constant seizures, suicidal thoughts, anxiety and depression, and have recently been diagnosed with a hole in my heart, not to mention the struggles of being a single mother whilst dealing with the above.

Strange as it sounds, I see all these traumas as blessings for myself to share and inspire others.

Traumas because they were tough and hard-hitting… there's no doubt about that…

But blessings because Today I AM ALIVE, what I have experienced in life have become my greatest teacher, my pillar of strength for my personal and spiritual growth, and has shown me as you age you gain infinite wisdom and that life is short and precious with multiple choice, and that YOU are in control of how to respond to whatever life throws at YOU!

I’m Proof That You Can Survive Everything. From a breakdown to a breakthrough with a positive mindset, fiercely and fearlessly embracing all my traumas like the Phoenix, I have risen and am striving and thriving triumphantly with courage, choices, and commitment to change to live life within with passion and fiery vigor.

    Why Vulnerability Is A Necessity

    Why Vulnerability Is A Necessity

Margaret talks about why it is okay to be vulnerable when it comes to our emotions, and how nature's very own vulnerability might hold the key to being more resilient through its own vulnerability.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • When stress, fear and worry begin to creep in to you life, relax and let your mind sort through them in its own way. Be an observer.
    • Even nature knows that the best way to weather a storm is to allow yourself to be bent and shaped by the wind itself - to go with the flow.
    • Cultural norms dictate that vulnerability is something negative and to be avoided for fear of being criticised. But this is not the way to true growth.
    • Vulnerability is the core of all emotions, and we must face what it means to be truly vulnerable - shame, fear and struggle for worthiness - if we want to be fully human.

    BEST MOMENTS

Loving And Healing with Breast Cancer

Loving And Healing with Breast Cancer

This week, Margaret is joined by yoga teacher, healer, mother, and guardian of love, Anna Love, whose mission is to empower the world through teaching them to embrace the art of self-love.

But the journey has not always been a simple one for Anna, having two years ago been diagnosed with breast cancer. In this episode, Anna shares the story of how she overcame one of life's most difficult hurdles through the power of nature and the vibrations of love.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Challenges such as cancer can always be re-framed as examples of our strength. Overcoming these things shows us what we are capable of.
    • Cancer patients are instantly categorised as victims and sufferers of fear. But everything in life is a choice, including factors such as this. We can choose to be a victim, or we can choose the path of healing and empowerment.
    • Intuition is a super power in itself. We have been conditioned not to obey the common sense that steers us through life. This needs to change.
    • There is nothing wrong with prioritising ourselves over others, especially when we are in a place of healing. Stop feeling guilty and look after yourself wholeheartedly.

    BEST MOMENTS

Siobhan opens up about how she healed herself from trauma and endometriosis, talking about the tools and methods she used and how she know helps and supports other women to do the same. Siobhan talks about her passion for all things surrounding the divine feminine and what that means for women and why now is the time for the define feminine to rise and start to align with mother earth and our sisters to live our truth.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Working in women’s refuges allowed Siobhan to learn a tremendous amount about the struggles of other women and awakened her to start the process of healing herself.
    • Our ancestors were more aware of their womb and bodies including their menstrual cycles, allowing them to live in accordance with them. Modern life and things such as the contraceptive pill throw women off balance.
    • If we gossip and talk about others, we break the divine feminine and sisterhood, we need to come together as one, as women.
    • We live in a masculine world and it’s time for the define feminine to rise and start to align with mother earth and our sisters to live our truth.
    • To truly heal yourself you need to have trust and faith in yourself and listen to yourself.
    • Sound healing helps bring up the stagnation of emotions, allowing yourself to heal from within.
    • We carry the pain of the generations that went before us.
    • Healing is a process, and we have to take responsibility for it as individuals and do the work.

    The Hidden World of Endometriosis

    The Hidden World of Endometriosis

Margaret is joined by intersectional gender specialist, Dr Gurpreet Kaur, to discuss her incredible journey as an endometriosis survivor, what the condition is and how it manifests within sufferers, and how we can best help those suffering with this condition.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Endometriosis is when the lining of the uterus grows externally to the uterus itself, implanting itself upon other organs in your pelvic area.
    • Sufferers of this condition endure an accumulation of blood, which cannot exit, and it can manifest itself as extreme pain and inflammation.
    • Endometriosis is far more common than we may believe, with over 190 million women suffering globally, amounting to one in ten women on the planet.
    • Because this is a hormonal condition, sufferers see a lot of weight fluctuation. This makes holding a stable weight almost impossible. It also brings on chronic fatigue, meaning that enthusiasm and daily tasks are made more difficult.

    BEST MOMENTS

'It is a reproductive issue that is very common'

'There was massive pain every month, to the point where I could not function'

    Surrender To Your Emotions

    Surrender To Your Emotions

We seem to live in a fix-it world. Margaret discusses why sometimes uncertainty or discomfort is exactly where we need to be. Why we should live an emotional existence, should give in to the voice of our heart for life's journey, how the lessons of nature itself can be applied to our own journey of change, and why embracing both negative and positive emotions can be the richest source of growth to help us learn far more about ourselves than we may have realised.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Life is made up of challenges that test our emotions. We are told that some of these emotional responses are bad and should be shunned. It's natural to want to avoid these emotions, but when we shun negatives, we also inevitably shun positives.
    • Only by embracing all emotions can we become fully-formed, high-functioning human beings. It's okay to feel sad, scared or anger. They teach us about ourselves.
    • Every difficult life situation can either result in fruitlessness and folly, or provide personal and spiritual growth. The result is up to us.
    • You always have three basic choices in how you respond to situations - to fight and tough it out, flee and not deal with it, or freeze and become numb.

    BEST MOMENTS

'There's no comfortable way to say this - sometimes life sucks'

'It's important to know that both types of emotions are necessary'

    'What you resist, persists'

'Our feelings can either set us free or freak us out'

Gang Raped At The Age Of 12

Gang Raped At The Age Of 12

This week, Margaret's special guest is Suku Moyo Mackenzie whose at-times horrifying story began with her gang rape at the tender age of twelve years old, an event which scarred her psychologically due to her anxiety about opening up with her story. After bottling it down deep inside, Suku suffered the ill after effects of PTSD, but now she has bravely chosen to share her tale, and by doing so, set herself firmly upon the road towards healing.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Sometimes those we trust the most can betray us in the most personal way. In this case, family members bonded together to commit a terrifying, horrific act upon an innocent child.
    • In order to speak our truth, we have to find a level of bravery that we may not be aware that we possess. Victims are often derided for not saying anything, but it takes time to build the courage required.
    • The most sickening part of a crime such as this, is that the perpetrators rarely show remorse, allowing their victim to suffer while they nonchalantly go on living.
    • The bravest of us are those who take the pains of the past and vow to use it as a force for good - to protect those who are in danger. This is how we heal.

    BEST MOMENTS

'She has come out stronger and is the voice of the voiceless'

'You were always my protector, but now I need to be protected from you'

    ABOUT THE GUEST

Suku is a mother of 3, and a grandmother of 2. She is the founder of *Let’s Talk About It* and is a passionate Advocate of Abuse and Mental Health. The foundation was founded from the horrific trauma she experienced at the age of 12 when she was gang raped, and because she didn’t talk about it, the stress of the trauma turned into PTSD and attempted suicide.

That was the turning point where she decided to speak out and raise awareness, basically be the voice of the voiceless. Suku now works with youth and helps rescue abused children and adults, including finding a safe place for them to live. She also raises funds and supports the less privileged in communities. For her ongoing relentless courage in raising awareness of abuse and mental health issues, she has received many awards and has appeared on television and radio shows

How To Transform Your Life With Energy Healing

How To Transform Your Life With Energy Healing

Margaret is joined by energy healer and specialist, Sunita Kaur, to talk about the transformative, positive benefits we can bring to our lives through the gift that is energy healing, a practice that preaches the message of hope in life and love, and how all subconscious encouragement may be a message from those we have loved and lost in the past.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Theta is the ability to connect on a really high level through four strands - our core, our life, our thoughts and feelings.
    • Many feel a sense of disconnection or undeserving. Remember that you are truly important, unique and valuable to the world.
    • We may not believe the things that our family believe, but the belief systems we inherit from them live within our physical form.
    • When our ancestors communicate with us through time and space, it is with a need to protect and nurture us, and in so doing, ensure that their legacy can be carried on.

Brenda joins Margaret this week for an inspiring episode in which she talks candidly about how she elevated herself from traumatic beginnings to become a business powerhouse and a woman in total control of her own destiny.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Sometimes the pull of destiny is so strong that it can encourage us to defy the accepted way of thinking and stake our claim to a better world.
    • When we put good into the world, the results blossom out into other arenas, causing a ripple effect of positivity.
    • Love is a growing thing. The more we plant, the healthier and stronger it grows in the world. Love begins at home and should be nurtured.
    • Vulnerability can be imbued with power. Strength can be founded upon weakness. Human beings are marvellously contradictory, which makes them all unique.

In this show, Birgit talks about her own experiences, and how she has harnessed the power of expression to bring positive light to herself and those around her.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • People these days are feeling a sense of pain, and are subconsciously searching for a way to heal. Sometimes the answer presents itself when we least expect it.
    • We all share some traits and senses of trauma. Through connecting with others we share the pain, but also share the healing effects.
    • We don't need to help the entire world, we just need to do what we can/ When we create positivity it is like planting seeds that grow and do the same for others. It has a rippling effect.
    • if every one of us can only see the perfection we all have inside, and recognise how unique we are, then we will truly feel the love we're meant to feel.

Masana and Margaret also talk about the ways in which spirituality, yoga and meditation practices, and deep understanding can help us to overcome the scars of trauma.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • The finest and most effective way of discovering our own path in life and spirituality, is to be given the freedom to do so on our own. We are all unique beings and therefore our paths will be unique ones.
    • Each of us are blessed with a special gift in this world - that remarkable, once-in-a-lifetime thing that makes us special. Finding that one thing and sharing it with the world is our most special gift.
    • Each of us have experienced trauma, even if we are not consciously aware of it. Trauma is any damage caused to our personal essence, on a mental, physical, emotional or physical level.
    • Nature still has an abundance of lessons to teach to us. We have only scratched the surface of the gifts it can impart. We should remain open to the message of nature and listen when it tries to steer our society.

    Trauma Extraordinary Awakenings

    Trauma Extraordinary Awakenings

With the passage of spring upon us, Margaret takes time to reflect upon the ever-changing nature of the world, why we should adapt to change alongside it, and how we can harness the power of trauma to kick-start us into an empowering spiritual awakening.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Spring is a time for new beginnings. We should use this passing of the seasons to ignite change in ourselves, thereby keeping a sense of balance and harmony with the world around us.
    • Post traumatic growth helps people to find a new sense of life and personal strength, and only appears in the wake of trauma.
    • There will always be some degree of suffering that we have to face in life. When it comes we should not see it as negative. We should look deep into it for the embedded opportunity for growth and transformation.

    ABOUT THE HOST

A few years ago, Margaret underwent several life-threatening traumas, including domestic abuse, and almost killed by her ex-partner, kidney and brain cancer, mental health issues, and a near-death experience. Her life was encapsulated in darkness, and she welcomed the thought of dying. From a breakdown to a breakthrough, these words from Viktor Frankl’s book, Man's Search For Meaning, changed her life forever: “The existence of life is to suffer; to survive is to find meaning in suffering.” Once she became aware of this, her life changed, and choose to live each day like it's her last…

    Healed After Dying Twice

    Healed After Dying Twice

Kevin Hill is a karate enthusiast and pastor, a rare, life-threatening disease that literally tore his body to pieces and completely derailed his life. Incredibly, Kevin died twice as frantic doctors raced to save his life, and Kevin credits his miraculous recovery to the power of his belief in God and the healing powers of prayer.

Kevin joins Margaret this week to talk about his traumatic experience, and to discuss his belief that through an outpouring of global good wishes and prayer, they literally brought him back from death in order to continue his work as an advocate of human kindness and love. After waking up to life through death, Kevin really is taking the advantage of living and is now writing a book titled, "The Resilient Miracle", soon to be published.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • People go through so much trauma in life, and stories like Kevin's give us hope and faith in each other. It is proof that despite the dark lows we feel sometimes; we are also adding good back into the world.
    • The important factor to consider when healing is that hope is a powerful motivator. Never tell yourself that you're down and out for good. Hold on to hope and it will see you through.
    • When our belief is so strong, it can move mountains. In Kevin's case, it saves his life. He knew that his time had not come, and his spirit fought on, even when his body could not.
    • When confusion subsides, peace takes hold. When peace arrives within us, fear is removed, and true healing can take place.

    Why Didn't I Commit Suicide?

    Why Didn't I Commit Suicide?

What can drive us to the darkest places in our lives - a place where the choice between life and death can be a very real one?

As a survivor of severe trauma, Margaret has pulled herself back from the brink of self-destruction, and in this highly personal, especially honest episode, she sends out a message of hope to those who may feel as though there is little left to live for - your life matters.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Thoughts of suicide emerge when we feel helplessly trapped and suffocated by the pains of life. It is testament to the agony of that pain, that escape feels like the only solution.
    • Never think that you are all alone, as help cannot truly arrive until we share our pain with others. Let those you love know how you feel.
    • Talking about suicide still carries a remarkable stigma in society, but the more we discuss it, the more people will feel as though they can discuss with others, and hopefully prevent any attempts.
    • We are surrounded by trauma in the world. Studies have discovered that many people have at least considered suicide at some point in their lives.

    BEST MOMENTS

'I still shudder when I remember those horrendous thoughts that stand out in my mind'

'At that moment, I thought taking my own life was the only way to stop the tremor of the emotional, terrifying pain'

The Healing Power Of Trauma Transformation

The Healing Power Of Trauma Transformation

As we continue to celebrate International Women's Month, Margaret welcomes Choi Tang, a healing therapist who specialises in panic healing, panic psychotherapy, and reiki therapy.

The subject this week is the healing power of trauma transformation and how we can often find the lightest and most valuable human moments in the darkest depths.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • There are always moments of hope and healing to be found, even when things seem at their darkest. For Choi, the process of seeing her family members healed gave her a sense of peace and acceptance.
    • Healers who have endowed the gifts of healing should be encouraged to pass them on to others. If we spread the joy of love and healing to others, we create a better world.
    • Everything is energy, and the distance does not matter when it comes to the healing process. We can transmit healing energies even by the power of thought.
    • Since COVID-19, people have felt a mass kind of awakening. People are seeing the world in a whole new way and looking for a more natural path to healing and well-being.

Mothers Are World Transformers - with Angela Asante-Armar, known as Sistar Naa, from Ghana

This week, to mark Mother's Day, Margaret welcomes Angela Asante-Armar - also known as Sister Naa - the founder of Power To Our Mothers Foundation Afrika. She is also a UK employment lawyer and life coach helping to elevate and empower black mothers.

Sister Naa joins Margaret this week to spread a message of empowerment and positivity, focussing upon the roles of mothers in our society, and why we should always regard them as pioneers when it comes to shaping and transforming the world we live in.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • The path to helping the world to thrive is to install mothers and women into more elevated positions, so as to use their wise perspectives and their experience in nurturing to help the world itself to thrive.
    • When we experience trauma, it is there to teach us a lesson. It enables us to pay it forward, help others, and maybe prevent the pain for someone else.
    • The role of women is often determined by society instead of our impulses or personal wants and needs. Instead, we should see women as the great distributors of power and knowledge, who shape the lives and thoughts of their children thereby influencing the world.
    • The focus must be upon the mother. We are living at a time where there is a huge imbalance between masculine and feminine energy. Nurturing the feminine benefits everyone as it provides harmony and balance.

    BEST MOMENTS

The Changing Face Of Motherhood - with Kamapala Chukwuka from Cameroon

Kamapala Chukwuka is a wife and mother of three. She is a certified confidence coach, a motivational speaker and founder of a digital agency. During the raising of her boys, Kamapala has been championing motherhood from a new perspective - one that aims to inspire the next generation by demonstrating the power of women - and how she has built her personal ethos upon three words: inspiration, creativity and love.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • When you see a missing piece in today's society, we should step up and fill that gap. For Kamapala, it was to make sure that children such as her boys were being represented in books aimed at their age group.
    • The love that emanates from a mother to her newborn is a bond that can never be broken. It is unconditional and lasts a lifetime. It comes directly from the heart and radiates throughout life.
    • It' important that we never give up on our personal dreams and ambitions. Being a mother does not mean that we have to forget who we are as a person.
    • The most important element of motherhood and parenthood in general, is to implant the seeds of kindness into the minds of our children. These seeds will grow alongside the children themselves, until they blossom.

Finding the Core of a Melanated Woman

To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, Today I Am Alive is dedicating the entirety of the month to some truly inspiring and incredible female voices, beginning with this week's guest, writer, and podcaster Najar Nyakio from Kenya, who joins Margaret to share her empowering tale of how she personally overcame trauma and learned to find the core of who she is.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Trauma can come in so many shapes and sizes. For Najar, it came in the form of never knowing who she truly was, and growing up in the shadow of a type of person she did not recognise.
    • We should always embrace the attitude that we are put onto this earth to empower and inspire. Never be afraid to let the wisdom and blessings of each day flow through us and out of us.
    • Trauma, in a way, can act as a blessing in disguise. It might be painful in the moment, but it can lead to enlightenment and inspiration for others.
    • Our menstrual cycle determines that each month we have to face up to debilitating pain. Our minds, mental state, our physical being, is geared towards pain or the anticipation of it. But we cannot let this define us, and there is a way to defy this excruciating, testing element of life.

    BEST MOMENTS

Love Is A Skill, It Can Be Learned

Love Is A Skill, It Can Be Learned

In this episode, Margaret discusses why every day should be a celebration of love and respect, and why nurturing love itself should be a practice we constantly embrace.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Life is best lived when we spend each day in a state of gratitude. Be thankful for what the world provides, and you can be sure of happiness.
    • We should not restrict the act of love, or the praise of our mothers or fathers, to single days in the year. Every day is an opportunity to celebrate someone or something great.
    • Love is a skill that can be learned. Love is something that we must nurture and crave. If we treat it as a pursuit and endeavour to improve it as a skill, then life will become richer as a result.

YOU Are Love - Be Your Own Valentine

YOU Are Love - Be Your Own Valentine

Love is in the air, and Valentine's season is upon us. With love as the main focus of the moment, Margaret welcomes special guest - artist, author and poet, Cezanne Poetess, author of Journey of A Sister, a specialist in helping people to understand the "Self Love Deficit".

Cezanne and Margaret come together to talk about the value of self love, and why this Valentine's, it's always worth cherishing the most special person in your life - yourself!
    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • If we do not love ourselves, then how are we supposed to understand how we can love other people?
    • We think of love as something external - something that is given to us by another. But love is what we are from within, and that is where the true journey begins.
    • Love should come from the overflow of what remains when we love ourselves. Learn to love from within, to love the person you are. If you manifest this love enough, then there will be plenty left for others.
    • Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate love in its purest form, and no one deserves it more than YOU! Make sure you celebrate yourself.

The Magical Gifts of Aging After Trauma

The Magical Gifts of Aging After Trauma

This week, Margaret reflects upon the gift of aging, and the opportunities that come from reflecting on the very act of having lived a life - even when some days and months have been blighted by trauma.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Aging is not a period for negativity and regret. It is an opportunity to view the life we have lived so far in a constructive way.
    • Growing old is unavoidable, but rather than see it as a time to slow down, we should view it as the culmination of every moment since birth.
    • Rather than frame trauma as a hurdle, we should see it as a lesson - a way of making ourselves stronger - rocket fuel that pushes us higher and faster.

    BEST MOMENTS

'Life gets more exciting as you age'
