EP37 Logging in Brooman State Forest

EP37 Logging in Brooman State Forest

    Please sign the petition below

Do you know there is logging happening in our Brooman State Forest?

Most people are completely unaware of what's happening to our forests, that existing logging cannot continue, and that post fire logging presents a risk of "serious or irreversible harm" to native forests.

We had a great panel of guest speakers to discuss the issue from their experiences and point of view.

Takesa Frank is a NSW Young Greens SDC Coordinator and Indigenous Officer and UOW Young Greens President. She is a young go-getter that has devoted so much of herself to this cause.

Rhian Macpherson is a local of the area whose property is right next to the devastation that is occurring and is the eyes on the ground.

Last but not least we had Independent NSW MP Justin Field who has worked hard to gain support from the government officials to halt logging and shared a lot of hard facts.

"Our forests are being destroyed for what; firewood; woodchips; to be shipped overseas. The same forest that was devastatingly burnt in the 2019/2020 summer fires where iconic species like the koala, swift parrot, and greater glider are being pushed towards extinction."- Takesa Frank

Our hope is that more local awareness around the issue will create more pressure on the government to actually act and listen to the will of the people so please help spread the message by sharing this episode with your friends and family.

EP34 Lara and Dylan - Woebegone Free Dive

EP34 Lara and Dylan - Woebegone Free Dive

We had Dylan and Lara from Woebegone Freedive on the podcast.  An amazing couple who run their dive outfit from our beautiful Jervis Bay. They share their beginnings adventuring through Mexico where they really saw the advantages of ecotourism and where their passion grew for giving people the opportunity to connect to nature. From my own dive experience, the moment I stepped on the boat and heard the way they shared the love and reverence for the ocean and its creatures I realised it was going to be a special day and it certainly exceed any of my expectations. Lara and Dylan are true ocean warriors and acting custodians with a drive to protect it and its inhabitants. Give them a follow on Insta and you'll see for yourself and keep up to date with all their initiatives and programs like ocean school for kids!!!

EP31 Gini Eagle author of Awaken

EP31 Gini Eagle author of Awaken

It took 3 months to release this episode!

We originally recorded this episode way back in June and since then I've been in a little bit of "filling my own cup" mode, spending extra time with the kids, getting into nature, and slowly digesting what's going down in the world...which is a good reminder to all to monitor where your energy going and focus on keeping your VIBES UP!

But after having another listen, it has so many gems of wisdom appropriate for the times we find ourselves in!

Gini is a qualified Reiki Master, social worker, yoga, and meditation teacher with more than 20 years of experience and came on to share her story and journey of awakening.

We also discussed her book  ‘Awaken – A Simple Guidebook to Empowerment’  which includes the tools and techniques she discovered on her journey and how she was called to write the book and share her and others' stories, to help those on the journey to empowerment.

She facilitates courses based on her book, as well as unique nature-based reiki courses and personal empowerment programs.

    EP30 Johnny from Budawang Earthcare

    EP30 Johnny from Budawang Earthcare

Johnny is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to permaculture and regeneration and we're lucky to have this man's influence in our community!

He has been the head of the Greenhouse park project based at the industrial area in Port Kembla NSW, to restore the old industrial wasteland and has demonstrated that the land can be healed and proved this by creating a healthy food forest in a once wasteland dumpsite.

His project/family home is the Budawang permaculture project and is being used as a work in progress example of how adopting arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems can lead to better land management, more nutrient-dense crops, and actually create higher yields. All creating a deeper understanding and connection to land, ecosystem, and Earth!

He also shared his life experience of the year that was 2020. First, with the fires threatening his property, Covid, and then a serious surf accident thrown into the mix, it was a big test for Johnny and his family and shows the resilience, determination, and mental fortitude of this man when up against the odds of life.

EP29 Confronting cancer head on w/Anta Supomo

It's Bowel Cancer awareness month so absolutely fitting to have Anta on to share his story and give advice from what he's learned along the way.

Take a moment to acknowledge Anta Supomo and the path he's been walking.

For many years now, Anta's been having to face cancer with all the hardship it brings on a daily basis, and the tremendous ability with how he handles it blew me away. The strength and courage of this fella are truly immeasurable, and it was an absolute pleasure to sit with him and have this amazing chat as he told his story.

Anta's advice...go get checked out if you're of the age or even if you’re suffering any strange symptoms. We all must take responsibility for our own health!

Repeat... if you have persistent gut issues see your doctor and if they persist, see your doctor again, or see a different doctor! Do not get brushed off!

    EP28 Overcoming life's obstacles w/Robert Sinclair

Listeners discretion advised. Adult topics discussed.

I loved this episode and it was one of my favorites.

I met Rob Sinclair down by the water after a swim, we got chatting and I immediately loved what he was about. To be open, raw, and honest about his life, his achievements, his shortcomings and to share stories of overcoming his own trauma from the get-go spoke volumes of his strength and courage. He came on the podcast to share his story and what modalities he has weaved into his own life and way of being so perhaps you can gain a little something...if nothing else a huge boatload of inspiration from this man and his story.

EP27 Kurt Nyholm from AKWA Surf

    Welcome back tribe!

So good to be back speaking with inspirational people again after a little break from podcasting. Big things have been happening in the background of Treading Lightly, the main one being the opening of our new headquarters or the TLHub as it's been affectionately nicknamed. A place where like-minded individuals can collaborate, brainstorm new ideas, and initiate plans to really make a difference in what even project is going down! Big thanks to all those who contributed to making the Hub happen!

Today's guest is someone who was on top of the list when we were brainstorming the podcast so it's a privilege to finally have him on. Kurt co-owns AKWA surf here in Milton and is part of the board riders club. He's been involved with many charitable events in our town and came on today to spread awareness of the latest charity event.

SurfAid's mission is to improve the health, wellbeing, and resilience of families living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. As surfers, we get to go and surf perfect waves that may be situated in remote areas of Indonesia and other countries. Most locals don't see the tourist revenues that should be going back into those very communities.

In Indonesia, a mother dies in childbirth every three hours and 20 babies die every hour. Half of these babies are less than one month old. In remote areas, these figures are worse.

All money raised goes to Surfaid https://surfaid.org/

There's a total of $12,000 worth of prizes - including a 10-Day Mentawai Surf Trip valued at $4,300 so get involved!

The Milton Mollymook Ulladulla SurfAid Team Raffle will be drawn on Sunday, 28 March 2021 at 4:00 PM so you need to get in quick if you'd like to contribute.

    Please head to

EP26 The Milton Ulladulla Small School

EP26 The Milton Ulladulla Small School

School. Who can say they enjoyed every moment of it?

I don’t know man kids who are thrilled to be going to school. What is it that makes it such a drag and does it have to be that way?

In an ever-changing world and with an unprecedented challenge that school age kids and parents alike have to deal with these days with social media and other technology, maybe there’s a different way of educating our youth that’s worth exploring?

In this episode, we have local practitioners Peter Anderson, a chiropractor, and his wife Wan Yi Ng a GP, come on to talk about the ambitious project they’ve embarked on. They’re in the process of developing the Milton Ulladulla Small School, a small community-based school right here in our area. It's an alternative to the mainstream primary school education system along the lines of Montessori or green schools but it won't be under any particular one umbrella.

I find it fascinating that these two academics who have obviously spent many years in the education system believe that there is a better way we can be teaching our youth,  but also inspiring that they're backing themselves so much in what they believe in to offer this alternative school to our community.

If you would like to show your support or express your interest, please reach out to Peter and Wan Yi. All details below.

EP25 Eco Building w/Critta, Marty and Wombat

EP25 Eco Building w/Critta, Marty and Wombat

In today's episode, we have three local legends who are hugely passionate about conservation and sustainability in the building industry.

First off we have legend Wombat which you may know from The Block and who originally went into the show with a desire to show people how we can have a more eco-friendly approach to building and continues to spread the same message in all his endeavors.

Marty Drysdale has been building his whole life and shares his experience with recycling materials and what is possible.

And lastly, we have Critta Chris Hayward from New View Building back on the show who has an ever-growing passion for coming up with new ideas to reduce waste and less of a footprint on building sites

It is awesome to open up this discussion in what can feel like an overwhelming issue in an industry such as the building game and we need more of these guys who care less about competition and pure profits and more about collaboration in building a better world.

     Enjoy!

    EP24 SHARKS w/Melissa Màrquez

Melissa is a marine biologist and wildlife educator with a BA (Hons) in Marine Ecology and Conservation degree from New College of Florida, USA and an MSc in Marine Biology from Victoria University of Wellington, NZ. She is a freelance environmental contributor, and founder of The Fins United Initiative (TFUI), a program that brings attention to the unusual and diverse sharks (and their relatives) of the world and their researchers.

Most people carry a fear of these animals and we tend to harbour a negative attitude toward them, mostly driven by a misunderstanding of these animals and cultural influences such as the movie Jaws that have driven the unwarranted fear of these animals.

We dove into the human psyche when it comes to sharks and how we can begin to foster a better understanding and relationship with these majestic animals and how we co-exist in their habitat!

It was a pleasure having Melissa on to share her passion and shed some light on these beautiful creatures.
