    Intro to Taxes in Web3 | Web37 Daily 020

    Intro to Taxes in Web3 | Web37 Daily 020

Artists around the world are turning to NFTs and blockchain technology to make a living selling their art, with that, many NFT artists are curious to know how to report their sales on their taxes. Thankfully, we had the chance to sit down with Alex, who’s an NFT CPA to discuss this exact topic.

As an NFT artist, all NFTs that you create and then sell are taxed as ordinary income. Just like creating and selling a piece of art in the real world, NFT art isn’t taxed much differently. Additionally, NFT artists are eligible to receive various tax deductions for their supplies, events, and even certain gas fees.

Nyla Hayes Is Making History | Web37 Daily 011

Nyla Hayes Is Making History | Web37 Daily 011

Nyla Hayes is the artist behind Long Neckie Ladies, the first female-led PFP project (released the same day as World of Women). By any measure, 2021 was a massive year for the young artist. Hayes made history in 2021 as TIME Magazine’s 1st NFT Artist in Residence and has been featured on CNN, Yahoo Finance, Business Insider, Investing.com, Black Enterprise, AfroTech, and several other channels.

Nyla began her artistic journey at the young age of four years old, before turning to digital art around nine. She went on to leverage this natural artistic ability by creating an immensely successful generative NFT project. The long-neck style, which has come to be Nyla’s signature, originated nearly four years ago. “When I was younger, I liked the brontosaurus dinosaur. I like how pretty, long and elegant their necks were. I thought women were the same way, so I thought I’d put the two together,” said Nyla.

Recently, Nyla was announced as one of the artists on the VeeCon lineup, joining an unbelievably impressive roster of artists, musicians, and speakers set to grace what is set to be one of the largest events in NFT history.

How Art Changed Gavin Meleer’s Life | Web37 Episode 09

How Art Changed Gavin Meleer’s Life | Web37 Episode 09

Gavin Meeler grew up outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and has been “all about art” since he was in elementary school. Gavin took three art classes in one semester of high school because a teacher spotted his interest and pushed him to do more of it.Meeler also sold his first art piece just after high school, a 16" x 20" print for $800.

Despite a life-long passion for art and selling his first piece right out of high school, he had to overcome multiple hurdles to be able to produce art full-time.After looking up anything to do to make an extra $100 online, he saw something about NFTs. It was confusing at first.

Gavin didn’t understand the multiple platforms and went deep on learning how an artist could put up their work for sale using NFTs on various platforms. His first ever NFT collector eventually included him in an event with XCopy and Beeple, and GaryVee ended up buying two of his pieces. Gavin also said that his goal is to get his art on platforms like Super Rare or Nifty Gateway, and he hopes that his art will eventually make it to a famous auction house like Christie’s or Sotheby’s.

Listen to this conversation hosted by ONE37pm’s Nick Anderson, where they dive deep into Meeler’s past, where he draws inspiration, and how art has shaped him into the person that he is today.
