    A former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mustapha Lecky, says those in the Information Communication Technology unit of the Commission lack the competence to tackle any technological disruption in their system.
    He says that INEC over-promised by saying that it would transmit election results in real-time, adding that the electoral umpire should have stuck with the manual process since it is not yet matured technologically.
    He says the staff there don’t have that kind of competence to respond to any manner of disruption technologically.

    The Federal Government has rejected the European Union’s report on the 2023 general elections, describing the conclusions of the EU Electoral Observer Mission as jaundiced.
    Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy urged the EU and other foreign interests to be objective in all their assessments of the internal affairs of our country and allow Nigeria to breathe.
    Alake says the EU should allow Nigeria to breathe and not meddle in the affairs of the country.

    EU Observer Identifies Six Areas for Improvement in Nigeria’s Electoral Process
    The European Union Election Observer Mission to Nigeria during the 2023 general elections says it has identified six areas for improvement in Nigeria’s electoral process moving forward.
    The Chief Observer of the Mission, Mr Barry Andrews, says highlighted the need for protection for media practitioners while decrying the discrimination against women in elective and appointed positions and impunity regarding electoral offences.
    Andrews says the election exposed enduring systemic weaknesses, signalling a need for further legal and operational reforms to enhance transparency, inclusiveness and accountability.
    He further noted a need for political will to achieve improved democratic practices in Nigeria and called for inclusive dialogue between all stakeholders on electoral reform.
