    4-9 Politics

    4-9 Politics

When I was a teen, I had a paper route delivering the Washington Post. My paper route wasn’t near my house so the route distributor, that’s the person that delivers the papers to the paperboy, would drive me and my friend Charlie up to our routes. After we were done, he’d come back and pick us up and take us home. But while we were waiting for him to pick us up, we’d read the paper as there was sometimes a paper or two left over. Of course, we always went right to the comics and when the comics were done there was a syndicated column by investigative reporter Jack Anderson. Anderson, a Pulitzer prize winning Morman republican muckraker, was equally hard on the left and the right. After that we’d turn over to the editorial section to decrypt the latest political cartoon from Herblock. Then, we’d seek out the latest Art Buchwald column. Art was kind of the printed version of Jon Stewart. A more political Dave Barry, if you will. Growing up in the DC area would have a profound effect on my worldview and sense of humor.

I try not to be political, in a “I’m this party or that party” sense. I try to be apolitical, which is becoming harder and harder as the world changes. I am a proud registered independent waiting for candidates to convince me to vote for them. I try to vote for the person I like who tells me what they are going to do, in real terms, not in vague generalities. I’m much more interested in why I should vote for someone than why I shouldn’t vote for the other candidate. That I can decide for myself.

I'm Tim Rose and this is the Tim Tunes Podcast. In this episode we’ll cover three songs that are arguably political in nature. The first song satirizes the US government’s involvement in South America in the 70s, the next song is my reaction to our post 9/11 invasion of Iraq, and the last song laments our loss of liberty because of these events. So, get comfy as we delve into the world of politics.

Episode 25: The 9/11 Series - Honoring the 20th Anniversary ~ JTD & Matthew Bocchi

In this episode of Adversity to Inspiration: The JTD Coaches Me Podcast, Joann Tierney-Daniels, has a conversation with author Matthew Bocchi. Matthew's book, Sway, is the first memoir published by a surviving child of a 9/11 victim.

Matthew's father, John Bocchi, worked for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower.  Tragically, he was in his office on September 11, 2001, and didn't make it out alive that day.

After his father's death, nine-year-old Matthew began an obsessive quest to determine exactly how John died. He researched videotapes, pictures, blogs, anything that could potentially answer the question looming in his mind, did his father jump from the towers?

Matthew intimately delves into the psychological and emotional torment that ensued after his father’s death. With heartbreaking vulnerability, Matthew details how he was groomed and sexually assaulted by an uncle. Confused, betrayed, and grieving the loss of his father and his innocence,  Matthew spiraled down a bottomless pit of drug abuse, willfully risking his life over and over in search of the next high trying in vain to forget the past.

Now, at twenty-nine years old, Matthew is sober and sharing his story to help others overcome their grief and the stigma associated with sexual abuse.  Ultimately, Matthew's story is one of resiliency, triumph, happiness, and hope. Matthew's message is clear, no matter how far you fall, you can always rise again.

9/11 and What September 12th Means to Me

9/11 and What September 12th Means to Me
9/11 is a day none of us will never forget but September 12th was a great day for America. In the weeks and months following the attack on the US, the country came together. We were one. No one cared what color your skin was or which political party you supported. We were Americans.

My hope is that we remember that feeling and once again come together.

Keep your thoughts on target with your goals and dreams and do not let others tamper with them at all. Stay on your defined path towards your goal and let no one derail you.

55: The 9/11 Memorial Glade: A Tribute to Strength

55: The 9/11 Memorial Glade: A Tribute to Strength
In the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, support flooded in from across the country to drive the recovery effort in New York, and beyond. Since then, hundreds of thousands of first responders, recovery workers, and community members have gotten sick and many have passed away from exposure to toxins at the recovery site. 18 years after the attacks, communities are still feeling the effects. To recognize the sacrifice, loss and continuing effort of those who responded to rebuild the community, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum created a physical space on the memorial site, called the Memorial Glade. On the heels of the 18th anniversary of 9/11, we feature a conversation between Anita Contini of the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Arts program and Alice Greenwald, National September 11th Memorial and Museum President and CEO. They discuss how the Glade came to be, it’s thoughtful design, and how the space will tell its story for years to come.
