The Omnibus Show E008 Benjamin Pedersen, Rookie IndyCar On Racing and the Indy 500
Monday, May 22 - Today’s episode of The Omnibus Show will feature rookie IndyCar driver Benjamin Pedersen.
In this year's Indy 500 qualifications, Pedersen clocked the second fastest lap time for a rookie driver in Indy 500 history. His first lap was 233.297 mph. His average qualifying time was 232.739 mph (Number one was Tony Stewart at 237.336 in 1996). This time placed Pedersen in the number 11 pole position.
Pedersen joins the A.J. Foyt racing team this year in his first year in the NTT IndyCar Series. Pedersen is not new to racing. He started his career in professional driving in 2016. He drove for the Leading Edge Grand Prix with Global Racing Group, and continued in this league for the next two years.
In 2019, Pedersen drove in both the F3 Americas and BRDC F3 championships (European racing). In 2020, his entire season was spent driving for Double R Racing in the BRDC British F3 Championship.
In 2021 and 2022, Pedersen switched to driving for Global Racing Group and raced in the Indy Lights series. He earned his first victory with INDY NXT by Firestone in 2022 – a stepping stone to IndyCar Racing.
Pedersen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, but moved to Seattle at age 4. He still considers Seattle to be his American hometown and is a fan of the Seahawks. In addition to race cars, he enjoys golf, skiing, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and many other action-driven activities.
