BITD Rewind, AD FREE Re-release of Ep 01 Relax, Relate, Release

BITD Rewind, AD FREE Re-release of Ep 01 Relax, Relate, Release
Life happens and you good people understand that. Your hosts had to take a week off so we are re-releasing one of our favorite episodes from our favorite show. We'll be back next week with a fun new episode but sit back and relax and listen to how it all started!

Three words that started a movement happened on this episode: Relax, Relate, Release. Now you see this on T-shirts, mugs, journals, as mantras, website titles, wellness guides and of course memes but it all started HERE!

So, this week we cover A Different World, season 4, episode 14 Ex-Communication and this episode is packed with one-liners, famous Whitleyisms, and director Debbie Allen steps in front of the camera to portray Whitley’s therapist! Whitely is a little too excited about her ex, Julian coming to town to see her, but her ego quickly takes a punch when she finds out Julian is engaged to a runway model, and they are moving to Paris! Whitley begins lamenting about the luxurious lifestyle she would have had if she and Julian were married almost costing her relationship with Dwayne. Whitley is coaxed into seeing a professional to get to the bottom of her jealousy and almost drags her psychiatrist, played Debbie Allen, off the ledge with her. Dwayne frustrated that he will never be good enough for Whitley and breaks off their relationship to make Whitley realize what she in him; all at the loss one good pair of stocking.

Meanwhile, Jaleesa is caught in precarious positions when the sports-loving client has her running ragged trying to land the account.

TAMARA TAYLOR: Law of Attraction - When You Don’t Desire Something Too Much, It Just Wants You

TAMARA TAYLOR: Law of Attraction - When You Don’t Desire Something Too Much, It Just Wants You

Today I sit down with star of the newly released “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” Tamara Taylor. As a shy kid, Tamara started out in modeling school. It was there where she discovered how she came alive on a runway performing in front of an audience. With dreams of pursuing acting, Tamara credits her mother with helping her to set her creative priorities on track when she asked, “Do you want to do this because you want to be famous, or do you want to do this because you like it?”

After moving to Los Angeles with her best friend to pursue their entertainment industry dreams, Tamara studied with acting coaches Margie Haber and Howard Fine and describes her experience of first going out for commercial auditions. After landing a series of commercials as a spokesperson for AT&T, Tamara was able to launch her commercial success into securing theatrical agent representation.

Since then, Tamara has earned a list of credits that just keeps growing including her well-known role as Dr. Camille Saroyan on FOX’s “Bones,” ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Netflix’s “Altered Carbon” and “October Faction,” FOX’s “Party of Five”, ABC’s “Lost”, Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” and many more. Today, Tamara candidly and openly discusses both the challenges and excitements that await actors at every new level in their career, from new actor to series regular. She shares her journey towards developing and embracing her own self-confidence, and shares how that confidence has allowed her to recover gracefully from on-set blunders, to fully show up in auditions even when feeling nervous or unprepared, and most of all, to always listen to her gut.

These are the unforgettable stories that landed Tamara Taylor right here.

Episode 03: A Buzzard In My Boudoir

Episode 03: A Buzzard In My Boudoir
Season 1 of A Different World was all about Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and her freshman year at Hillman College. And in this episode, we see Denise trying to hang on to her academic life as she struggles with passing calculus. So, she signs up for tutoring but never dreamed she would get Dwyane, the guy who can’t get enough of her as her tutor! The calculus tutoring session is working but goes late into the night and since it is past curfew Dwayne is forced to leave the locked all female dormitory Gilbert Hall without being seen: through a fire escape. The problem is the only exit/fire escape is outside of Whitley's room. He tires but is spotted sneaking out and the conclusion is drawn that he was sneaking out of Whitley’s room. Rumors fly about Dwyane and Whitley and what may or may not have happened doesn’t matter…the perception becomes the reality. But Denise knows the truth…but will she speak up to save Whitley’s reputation?

    A Very Special Episode

    A Very Special Episode

On this week’s episode, hosts Tymika Lawrence and Ezra Baker drink a cup of Idido Natural from Black & White Coffee Roasters in Chapel Hill, NC. This show is dedicated to the concept of the Very Special Episode, “one my favorite TV vehicles,” says Lawrence. “It’s a way for writers to bring a serious, heavy topic into homes where maybe people aren’t dealing with it…they humanize it by connecting with characters you know and love.”

Lawrence and Baker dive deep into a classic two-part episode of A Different World, "Honeymoon in LA". This particular episode—the premier of Season Six, aired on September 24th, 1992—starts after the “wedding episode” of ADW (“a classic moment of Black television” says Baker) and takes place during the 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles.
