This week kicked off with a hairless shock when Chelsea was faced with a barefaced bf, and the listeners of Kent tucked into another juicy update on the Whatsapp group chat. Canterbury has a new mascot and things got heated trying to crack the animal leg code. 90's nostalgia took centre stage as Chelsea tried to solve the mystery of the alien eggs and sausage rolls got a classy upgrade. If that wasn't enough, animals took over the Breakfast show with a dog called Duck from Rochester, and a hamster tucking into a festive advent feast. From mulled toilets, Strictly firsts and cracker attackers, feast on it all in this week's episode of the Breakfast Buffet Podcast with Garry and Chelsea.

Let's talk about ADVENT! This episode is dedicated to this subject that literally means "coming" or "arrival." In this episode, Jenn & Juice dive into this spiritual practice and offer you a simple way to take yourself and/or your kids/family through this thoughtful contemplative practice as we approach Christmas and anticipate the second coming of Jesus. 

Episode 0041 : Advent

The word Advent comes from the Latin word that means coming or arrival. 

For centuries the Church has celebrated the four-week Advent season by lighting candles in a wreath and reflecting on the coming of Jesus as told in Scripture. 

The four weeks are representative of: 

• Hope
• Peace
• Love
• Joy

• The circle of the wreath represents God’s never-ending love for us, the evergreens represent Christ’s gift of eternal life and the candles announce Jesus as the Light of the World.
• There are 4 advent candles to light – one per week. 
• Traditionally the first three candles lit are purple and the fourth is pink, the color of Joy, but any color will work.

HOPE

Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

The first week of Advent is the week of Hope. The story of Jesus’ birth actually began thousands of years before he was born. God promised the people of Israel that he would provide a Messiah (Savior) to save them from their sins. For centuries, the people of Israel waited with great hope for the Messiah to come.

PEACE

Isaiah 9:6 – For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 

The Second Week of Advent is the week of Peace. This verse tells us that Jesus came to be the Prince of Peace. The word peace is the Hebrew word shalom which means completeness or well-being. Jesus didn’t come just to end wars, but to make us complete by saving us from our sinfulness. All we have to do is trust in Jesus as the Son of God who came to save us and we will have the peace, or shalom, of God.

LOVE

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The Third Week of Advent is the week of Love. This verse tells us that Jesus came because God loves us so much that he doesn’t want any of us to miss out on spending eternity (forever) with him. All we have to do is believe that Jesus is the Son of God who came to save us. God’s love for us is one of the main themes the Apostle John wrote about in the Bible. He tells us in another verse that the greatest love anyone can have is to give their life for others (John 15:13). He also tells us we are to love one another because love comes from God (1 John 4:7). 

JOY

Luke 2:10-11 – But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”

The fourth week of Advent is Joy.This verse is from the story of Jesus’ birth.  The angels appeared to the shepherds in the fields nearby to announce that a baby has been born in a manger.  The angels describe Jesus’ birth as “good news of great joy” because he came to be our Savior!  The Bible tells us that right after they announced this news to the shepherds, thousands of angels appeared and sang glory to God because Jesus had been born.

081-18 Bonus Episode (Thoughts): Light To The World - December 18th

Wow we are half-way into December and drawing closer to Christmas every day. I am happy for the Sister Missionaries who provided me with the inspiration in the form of an Advent Calendar and that I acted on my call to complete the Christmas Calendar this year also! I hope I will keep you company in this time where many are stressed and some are lonely. I hope I can share some examples of my life on just how simple it can be to be a Light To The World! I hope I Can inspire some of you to take action, and follow in this Christmas Calendar, spreading love and joy to others as the days draws closer to Christmas.

LDS AND MEDIUM PODCAST BACKGROUND:
I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or LDS for short. All my life I felt awkward and out of place, not because of my religion, but because of my spiritual gifts. It was hard to combine the idea of what first seemed like two separate worlds. So my whole life I have tried. I have learnt more about my gifts, and stayed faithful to my faith. But then I heard people left the church because it seems impossible to combine the two. So I am here, to try and mend the rift. To show that it is possible to be both LDS and to have, and use, our spiritual gifts. I am not alone on this journey, but my sister, who just is waking up to her spiritual gifts is by my side and she will also share her story.

Jesus Christ, our older brother, was a healer. He asked us to love one another. So let´s follow in his footsteps. Please join me on this journey, let´s make a community of strong spiritual LDS, or whatever religion you belong to, and all work together to make this world a better place.
