    Money, money, money [S21E04]

    Money, money, money [S21E04]
This week the team talk about money, finance, 'fintech' stuff and the products we use: Rafe's been using 'helpful' tools including HM Revenue and Customs' app to manage his tax and NS&I's app to check for Premium Bond wins. He's also tried the 'green' debit card Tred. Ewan's also been big on Open Banking for money management trying Plum to setup rules and games to encourage saving. [Rafe says "also look at similar apps like Emma and Snoop"]. Ben still uses You Need a Budget and virtual debit cards from Monzo. He's also using Monzo's built-in 'round-up' feature to save 'passively'. He's also using Chip which offers a (sort of) savings product marketplace. The team wonder where 'the Monzo of credit cards' is and question if 'buy now, pay later' is the same thing, talk about mortgages for a bit, and consider if 'packaged bank accounts' are popular again. Chase Trifecta is OVERRATED | Credit Card BS Podcast Ep. 2 | Stanford & Berkeley Students on Travel

Chase Trifecta is OVERRATED | Credit Card BS Podcast Ep. 2 | Stanford & Berkeley Students on Travel

A UC Berkeley graduate and a Stanford student talk about their hot take: why the famous Chase Trifecta is highly overrated. Far too many people get trapped in the 'multiplier mindset' where they think so far in the long term that they forget about short-term benefits of any kind. There are strategies that can provide vastly more benefit than the Chase Trifecta. And stay tuned for their opinions on underrated cards to get instead!

Stanford student Sherwin Lai has over nine credit cards and has planned trips all over the world for himself and his family. Sherwin has visited world-class resorts such as Alila Ventana just by properly utilizing his knowledge of credit cards and loyalty programs.

UC Berkeley graduate Shaun Lane created a full college-level course on utilizing credit cards for ultra-cheap luxury travel. Students at Berkeley earned real units for taking this class and it be found at: creditcal.org/fullcourse

    For The Love of Money

    For The Love of Money

    Can money buy you happiness?

DeRae likes to tell people he’s never had a problem that money couldn’t solve. Austin shares his earliest experiences with credit cards, and what he wishes he knew back then. Money and credit are tools, yet many people have no idea where money comes from and how credit (or debt) works - and often suffer from the money illusion.

In many ways, getting money is a game, as there are just so many ways to get it. Some people focus on ensuring they secure a steady job with benefits so they can work until retirement age. Others are just trying to get by, check to check.

And while there is nothing wrong with keeping an eye on retirement, or just getting by - it seems the majority of Americans are not adequately prepared for retirement. Are they playing the right game(s)?

    57. Greg O'Hara of Certares

Greg O'Hara has become an influential player on the travel scene since he joined Sabre in the 1990s.

He admits to quitting roles after falling out with management  - or getting fired - on a number of occasions in the intervening years before creating the Certares private equity vehicle in 2012.

But that experience at Sabre, Worldspan and JPMorgan has created an astute and outspoken financial operator, with interests and investments through Certares at Liberty Tripadvisor, AmaWaterways, G Adventures, Getaway, LATAM Airlines and, perhaps most high-profile, Amex Global Business Travel.

O'Hara joins us as the latest guest on How I Got Here.

HIGH is a weekly show produced by PhocusWire and Mozio, aimed at getting the inside stories behind startups and innovation in travel and transportation.

It's hosted by PhocusWire's editor in chief, Kevin May, and Mozio co-founder and CEO David Litwak.
