#102 – In Hot Pursuit Of Vikings

#102 – In Hot Pursuit Of Vikings

Hell Bent For Metal favourites Amon Amarth are back under discussion again, this time explaining why breakthrough song 'The Pursuit Of Vikings' makes them think about coming-out experiences, something gay men are surprisingly comfortable discussing that most folks aren't, and, er, Destiny's Child.

It's a surprisingly well behaved Camp Classic (by HBFM standards, anyway), but maybe it's because it's the summer and the cricket season in Britain, but Matt and Tom are in surprisingly thirsty form. And not just for Pimm's.

This week's visit to HCGBs sees Matt put Plagueboys by Finnish post-punks Grave Pleasures into the jukebox, while Tom's plumped for Saturnian Bloodstorm by Lamp Of Murmuur… although you could be forgiven for thinking it's by someone else, according to the guy picking it.

Episode 46: Amon Amarth “With Oden On Our Side“

Episode 46: Amon Amarth “With Oden On Our Side“
Wo liegt Valhall? Wer ist Hermod? Was sind Bauta-Steine?

    #83 – Viking Horn

    #83 – Viking Horn

Hell Bent For Metal, being a mature, serious podcast, reads the lyrics to 'Raise Your Horns' by Amon Amarth, and finds the phallic euphemisms are so close to the surface, they're basically poking through it. With Matt Rushton away, Tom is joined by Charlie Howard and Matt Dawson to chortle at a song about Vikings being thirsty for a drink from a nice big horn.

In shocking news, Tom's found a Slayer song he thinks is a Camp Classic, as 'Altar Of Sacrifice' apparently has some queer relevance. Even more shockingly, both Matt and Charlie find some too.

Plus this week's releases being added to the Hate Crew Gaybar jukebox are Unslayable by Tyrannus, Crusaders Of Joy by bigLOVE, and Liminal Rite by Kardashev.

Take a load off and enjoy Rock Phoenix Lives Swedish Rock!  Happy Listening, ROck ON!!!!

    Hammerfall- Hearts On Fire

Amon Amarth- Twilight Of The Thunder God

    The Hives- Tick Tick Boom

    Katatonia- My Twin

    Sabaton- The Red Baron

    Royal Republic- Here I Come

    Corroded- Time (And Again)

Treat- I Dont Miss The Misery

    Eclipse- The Masquerade

    Europe- Rock The Night

    Nightwish- Nemo

    Millencolin- SOS

    Arch Enemy- War Eternal

Dead By April- As A Butterfly

Dead By April- Anything At All

    Smash Into Pieces- Higher

    Smash Into Pieces- Big Bang

    Takida- As You Die

    Takida- Haven Stay

    Takida- Goodbye

    #46 – Amon Amarth's Massive… Weapons

    #46 – Amon Amarth's Massive… Weapons

Hell Bent For Metal makes a gay assessment of Amon Amarth's habit of holding big axes, mighty hammers, and long, long swords in ways that might just be more suggestive than the metal-as-hell intention. Expect innuendo.

This week's Camp Classic is 'STFU!' by Rina Sawayama, a song in which Matt and Tom both see queer relevance, but in very different ways.

Plus the Hate Crew Gaybar jukebox gets its weekly updates, with Conquering by Employed To Serve, Eternal Blue by Spiritbox, and Remains by Hellish Form all added.

The Story of Rock and Roll: Episode 39

The Story of Rock and Roll: Episode 39

Episode 39 of The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show aired at midnight on 11  October 2019.  It marks a change in the way the show is recorded in that the songs are submitted upfront.  This means any changes to the playlist on the night are impossible unless by some miracle the song is in the stations' data base.  It makes requests tricky.  Requests don’t form a huge part of TSORR Radio Show however listeners often submit excellent ideas that add a good energy to the show.  The new method for requests is to find the track on YouTube which is a lottery, you never know what the quality will be like or how many surprises are in a track you haven’t reviewed.  The first taste of this method is about two-thirds of the way through, and it was certainly a strange one that cut and shifted and had phones ringing in it.  I left it as-is for the purity of the show.  It going to be better in future if I know what the track is like upfront.

Everything else was 100% fun, pretty much what you’d expect from this show.  The new stuff came from Hell Fire, Black Star Riders, Backyard Babies and Tom Keifer.  I don’t think we went back further than 1982 this week, I ran out of time and the Rory Gallagher from 1974 got bumped.  In fact, The Damned of all bands represented the 70’s.  Local music was covered by Crash Car Burn and Johnathan Martin, the weeks outlier was Alabama 3 with Too Sick to Pray.  It was the most appreciated track of the night according to the WhatsApp line.

Artists featured this week included Dio, ACDC, Rainbow, Monster Truck, David Lee Roth, The Damned, Tom Petty, Rammstein, Sammy Hagar, David Bowie, Judas Priest, Black Star Riders, Joan Jett, Damn Yankees, Hell Fire, Amon Amarth, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Sixx:A.M., Alabama 3, Johnathan Martin, Megadeth, Crash Car Burn, Tom Keifer, Backyard Babies & Buckcherry with Papa Roach.
