    Was leisten Prozessor-Rechenwerke wie SSE, AVX und AMX – und braucht man die unbedingt? Die dritte Ausgabe 2021 des Bit-Rauschen-Podcasts von c't (2021/03). In der dritten Ausgabe 2021/03 von "Bit-Rauschen: Der Prozessor-Podcast von c’t" spricht Christof Windeck mit Christian Hirsch über die Befehlssatzerweiterungen moderner Prozessoren. Schon seit über 20 Jahren brachten AMD und Intel die Multimedia-Extensions MMX, aus denen sich im Laufe der Jahre die Streaming SIMD Extensions SSE und später Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) entwickelten. Längst gibt es Intel-Prozessoren mit AVX-512, doch einerseits sind die AMD Ryzens auch ohne AVX-512 stark und andererseits will Intel bei kommenden "Alder Lake"-Prozessoren auf AVX-512 verzichten. Stattdessen kommen Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX). Da fragt man sich: Was bringen denn alle diese Erweiterungen genau? Das beleuchten wir im Podcast genauer.
