    Just What The Chatbot Ordered

    Just What The Chatbot Ordered

The doctor is in!  But what if the doctor isn't human?  Our favorite psychotherapist, John Tsilimparis, joins the podcast as we discuss the growing impact of AI, and specifically AE (artificial empathy), in the medical field and in the most important aspects of our daily life.  What is Chatbot Therapy?  Can AE make us better humans or is it merely manipulating us?  This technology can be a game changer for providing support for human doctors in assessing actionable treatment and dramatically increasing access to mental healthcare services.  But with all of the progressive promise also comes the potential perils.  The father of AI has sounded the alarm warning us that AI is growing faster than we can control or regulate it.  Global security agreements and regulation must be established and implemented before it's too late to prevent artificial intelligence from outsmarting us all.

Photographs & Memories - Simone Puorto - Setting fire to hospitality

Photographs & Memories - Simone Puorto - Setting fire to hospitality

With an ambition to become a philosophy teacher, our next Memory Maker entered hospitality at 19 and didn’t look back. Simone Puorto carved out a career from being at front desk to general manager of a chain of boutique hotels now one of the foreleaders on metaverse, ai and automation.

Bringing an edge of science fiction to his consultancy, Simone’s photographs and memories most certainly depict his character. A self-confessed music freak, he shares his love for Joy Division as a failed punk musician and his pilgrimage to visit the iconic spots of the band. Simone explains his disappointment at how advertising can override poignant issues in society.

Simone also delves into his passion for robots on the trip of a lifetime to Japan where his two worlds of technology and buddhism collide. “We were visiting toy shops and buddhist temples. It was a bizarre experience, especially meeting a cyborg monk - imagine an android pope?!’ Here, Simone learnt firsthand the importance of the role of robots in society and the opportunities for hospitality.

We travel to Barcelona for Simone’s souvenir - listen in to find out the significance of his hotel experience and the TV series LOST. In his Fawlty Towers moment, Simone explains how a photoshoot went up in flames the day before opening ‘We wanted more fire….[in the end]...everything was black, [we had to] black-spray paint everything’.

Simone is a journalist, keynote speaker, published author, lecturer and consultant specialising in travel technology. During his 25-year career he has been a general manager at a boutique hotel and VP of global accounts for WHIP, a French-American web agency. In 2017 he founded Travel Singularity consultancy firm where he has advised many hotel groups and travel start-ups. He describes himself as a Metaverse Ambassador and Crypto Evangelist. He lives and works between Rome and Paris.

Each episode we invite an industry professional to share 2 photographs and a treasured souvenir from their travels representing moments particularly important to them. Join us as we go on a journey through time to explore the significance of each.

DIY Electromagnetic Pulse Strap w/ Oceanographic Engineer Sean Lastuka

What's up to my nettlesome neddickies and vigorous viscachas!

Welcome back to the BNP everyone and thank you for joining! To my patrons, y'all are the coconut water in my fancy mango beverage and the air plant perched on my selenite! You make my world more hydrated and oxygenated. You are appreciated.

Folks! We've all seen the robot dog armies. We've all seen the creepy uncanny valley Boston Dynamics parkour androids doing (lame) tricks on their little wheel legs, and we've (or many of us) have seen Return to Oz with those ghoulish "wheelers." (As an aside, how was that film allowed to be on network TV? Shit definitely fucked up my subconscious as a tyke. Anyhoo.)

So, as I said we've seen the faceless unfeeling robot dogs, and society seems hellbent on blitzing forward full steam ahead with metaverses, A.I. and the silicone singularity. So my thinking is, why not be pro-active? As part of our philosopher-barbarian preparations for what WEF fiend Klaus Schwab calls "an angrier world" (*insert demonic German accent*), why not include some sort of gadget capable of short-circuiting any robot dog, robot donkey, robot ferret or robot rhino that comes our way will ill intent?

That's where this week's guest, returning champ Sean Lastuka comes in. As the BNP's resident genius engineer, Sean generously agreed to hop on the pod and discuss the the physics behind EMP devices, whether The Matrix was exaggerating their efficacy or not, and the feasibility of crafting one's own EMP gadget with relatively accessible and available materials. It's the People's EMP widget hour this week on the BNP!

We also, as always, have those zany audio tidbits you expect, nee, demand, as well as a couple short soliloquies regarding a recent illuminating meditation. Enjoy and thank you for supporting the pod.

Robots, Humans, and the Potential for Independent Thought

Robots, Humans, and the Potential for Independent Thought

In this episode, Clare and Hannah continue to geek out about robots, but to be honest we spend more time discussing humans. Typical humans, always talking about ourselves. We talk about the nature of beauty, being stewards of the earth, and something called an a priori  cognitive structure. I feel smarter already.

"The humans, who can think, are so afraid of those who cannot think..."

In this episode, the first half of a two-part discussion, Clare and Hannah chat about the progress of robotics over the years, laying the groundwork for the second part, where we get super-duper philosophical and stuff.

    Épisode #2 - IA : VERS L’EMPATHIE MACHINIQUE ?

Autour de: Les Androïdes rêvent-ils de moutons électriques ? (Blade Runner), Philip K. Dick (1968)

THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER finally reunite in "The Star-Spangled Man," episode 2 of the Marvel Studios Disney+ series.  Eduardo, Peach3z, Chris, and Robbie are back to discuss the new Captain America, the resentment between the two best friends of the old Captain America, and the tragic and disturbing real-life inspiration for the story of Isaiah Bradley, "the Black Captain America." Is Bucky right to be mad at Sam for giving up the shield? What are the Flag-Smashers trying to accomplish, and do they have a point? And will new Cap John Walker turn out to be a villain, or just an annoying obstacle for our heroes? Tweet #TeamPeachuardo or #TeamChrobbie to let us know where you stand!

    Class of 1999

    Class of 1999

Shitty Movie Summer is graduating! This week, we visit 1999 via a 1990 film that imagines dystopian future where Free Fire Zones run rampant as violent youth gangs have taken over several major American cities with weapons that...wait...where the hell did they get those anyway?

Either way, the 1990 Dystopian Sci-Fi film Class of 1999 is our advertised content for this week. The film stars Bradley Gregg, Traci Lind, Malcolm McDowell, and Stacy Keach.

In this film the Department of Educational Defense enlists three android teachers to teach at the dreaded Kennedy High School in Seattle. Unfortunately for the students and the other faculty, the teachers decide that the best path to knowledge is war.

Co-starring film legend Pam Grier, this is a film that's going to show you a different side of yoga pants and compulsory education!
