Yes, they are considered veterans! Police dogs and working dogs who literally put their life on the line to protect their handlers and apprehend the bad guys are being honored. K9 Veterans Day is actually March 13th, but in Central Indiana, there will be a gala honoring their sacrifices on March 11th, 4-7pm at Hotel Tango.
