The Omnibus Show E011 Artist Anna Afshar on Painting, Art, Travel, and More
June 12, 2023 – Today’s episode of The Omnibus Show will feature artist Anna Afshar.
Afshar was influenced by the trips to galleries, symphony hall, and theaters she visited as a child growing up in Lithuania and Russia. She became a chemist, but discovered years later that she was an artist at heart when she picked up the paints her son left behind on a table. Afshar went on to study with well-known and recognized artists and teachers from around the world.
She is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, Hoosier Salon and Indiana Artist Club.
Afshar has won several competitions, including "Best of Show" at the Watercolor Society of Indiana 2015 Annual Juried Exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and she received the Hoosier Women Artist honor from Indiana Arts Commission and the Lt. Governor of Indiana. She has had paintings commissioned for many private collections. She also teaches and enjoys sharing her passion for art.
Afshar admires paintings that are spontaneous and free and paints to fulfill her passion for the world around her. She tells stories through her paintings and feels there is no limit to inspiration. She divides her time between homes in Indiana and in Stuttgart.
When she travels, she frequents museums for inspiration and to learn from painting masters. Even a walk in her own neighborhood can jumpstart her imagination for what to paint next. Many of her works are plein air, meaning that they are painted outdoors.
