John Richardson With RNC On Medical Freedom

John Richardson With RNC On Medical Freedom

John Richardson has more than a unique company to talk about medical freedom. He has a back story that makes him committed to his passion. It all started with his father's medical mission over a generation ago. His father's passion to help people medically and exercise their medical freedom started his journey that got shut down by the government which ended his career. However, John Richardson picked up the ball and uses his fathers information and research to help others today at a time when our medical freedom is under attack in many ways. John tells us the whole story in this podcast and about his company.

Sharon Kirk: Scientists have created three new types of apricot for New Zealand orchards

After 20 years of research, scientists have created three new types of apricot for New Zealand orchards.

Sharon Kirk at Ardgour Valley Orchards is growing 20 hectares of the new crop and told Tim Dower the new varieties are suited to New Zealand conditions and were bred “the old-fashioned way” to make a highly coloured and juicy fruit.

Episode 168: Saison's Greetings w/ Comedians Stephen Furey, Emma Haney & Becky Lynn

Episode 168: Saison's Greetings w/ Comedians Stephen Furey, Emma Haney & Becky Lynn
Host Ben Rice invites his favorite comedy friends (and lover oh my) Stephen Furey (@scubastevefurey), Emma Haney (@ehaneycomedy), and Becky Lynn (@ohthatsbecky) into his (their) home for his/their yearly winter recap. This year, we're tackling saisons for our year-end Saison's Greetings episode! We go from THE definitive saison, to clones of that saison, to slight variations to wild experimentations, while recapping our years, bickering like old friends, praising the Sacramento comedy scene as being unlike any other in the world (and why that seemingly self-important stance is provably true), and getting, well, let's face it, progressively drunker, as this episode carries on. All told, we drink, discuss, and review ten, count em, 10, different saisons from around the world (but mostly the California area, with a HEAVY emphasis on Peter Hoey/Urban Roots Brewery & Smokehouse creations). Barbers! Brussel sprouts! Ballpark Hot Dogs! Ben's Condiment Bindle! Biscuits and Gravy! Bleu Cheese! Ben's Infamous Blackout! Being banned from comedy clubs (and Bars!)!(unrelated to previously-mentioned blackouts) Bullying! Beer! Beer donations! Things that don't start with B! (In case things like ASMR, alarm clock harmonies, apricots, ah crap that's all A's, ok, take 2 - in case things like parking tickets, favorite cereals, secondary fermentations, the fickle fortune of fame, disrespectful comics and booking requests (ah crap, booking starts with B), and global domination tickle your fancy)
Look, there's a lot to unpack here and maybe we resolve some stuff and maybe we don't. Do some of us have multiple 3rd favorite saisons? Probably. Do we appreciate the art and science of it all? Mostly. Do we do this for us? No! We do it for you. So give it a spin and enjoy episode 168 of Barley & Me.

Flower Power Garden Hour 13: Spanish Peppers….a story of gardening tips and the history of this pepper in Gloria Lopez’s family

Flower Power Garden Hour 13: Spanish Peppers….a story of gardening tips and the history of this pepper in Gloria Lopez’s family

Gloria has been growing the same lineage of peppers since her family brought them over from southern Spain in 1920. Following her grandfather & father, Gloria has kept this strain alive and vibrant. Whereas most Spanish immigrant families stopped growing or lost track of the seed, Gloria has been able to keep the tradition alive. Each year she starts 1,000 of these sweet peppers in her small greenhouse & gives away most. Her list of people who want them grows each year. In her own garden, she plants hundreds of them & selects the perfect ones to dry & harvest the seed from, furnishing the seeds to grow from the following year – sustainable agriculture at its finest. This pepper represents the long history Spanish immigrants have with agriculture in the Winters area and in California Agriculture. To chronicle this history Gloria interviewed hundreds of immigrants & their families complying their unique stories into a book and documentary, An American Paella: Becoming American while Staying Spanish

Episode 44: The Greatest Show on Earth – Barnum (was right) Cocktail

Episode 44: The Greatest Show on Earth – Barnum (was right) Cocktail

Episode #44 features a popular personality from the cocktail era: Mr. PT Barnum. The name of the cocktail refers to Barnum's supposed famous saying that a "sucker is born every minute." But even as we look into this cocktail we can't verify much of anything and even the attribution of that phrase seems off. Given that Barnum was a temperance speaker from 1850 to his death, an attribution from him directly seems unlikely. We doubt he was making cocktails or ordering cocktails for himself or anyone else. Strangely enough, Jerry Thomas, the bartender who first published his recipes in 1862, owned a saloon beneath Barnum's American Museum on Broadway in New York and it seems that they did in fact know each other, but Thomas doesn't have the cocktail in his book which seems unlikely if he was the original creator. The first place Jay does find the Barnum Was Right Cocktail is in Trader Vic's cocktail book, published much later than would be expected from a cocktail bearing Barnum's name. Because of its nonexistence, even by mention, prior, Jay considers Vic Bergeron as the creator of this cocktail. Now lack of evidence isn't proof of what is actually the case...if anyone knows the origin story to this cocktail better and can point to evidence, we'd love to know it and amend the discussion. Getting into the conversation of the name of the drink, it appears even that is up for debate. There is no place where we can find "a sucker is born every minute" as being spoken by PT Barnum. In fact, many people suggest that Barnum's big top competitors at the time told people Barnum said it to discredit him. But even if that were the case or Barnum had said it, the concept goes much further back historically, so it's not an original idea, having Barnum say it just made it sound better, as was the case with everything he did. Here’s the recipe:

    • 2 Ounces gin

    • 1 Ounce apricot-flavored brandy

    • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

    • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

This cocktail was more or less fine. It didn't offend, it didn't impress. It merely existed. We all had it and we enjoyed it for what it was, but it comes from the classic style of gin, bitters, and one other ingredient that sets it apart from a Tom Collins or many other drinks we've had. It was excellent to try, but for my money, the story here was the best part.

MOW #021 - Beastly Kingdom vs. Dinoland vs. Camp Minnie Mickey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

MOW #021 - Beastly Kingdom vs. Dinoland vs. Camp Minnie Mickey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Jambeaux, everyone!!! Welcome to another episode of the Magic Our Way podcast. We are 21 shows old today and we are feeling very adult!!! We have a great show for you today as we explore another aspect of park life that has never seen the light of day.

In this week’s Queue, we once again address several topics which peaked our interest for discussion while waiting in the queue. Disney performs a “Hat trick” at the Rose and Crown Pub in the United Kingdom pavilion in EPCOT Center. The last bastion of Merriweather Adam Pleasure’s vision has finally left the building. You can now recharge and discharge in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. We talk about the lineup of narrators for the 2013 Candlelight Processional. With the coming of new things that one must do, we will soon see a new version of Must-Dos on resort TV starring the lovely, and always perky, Stacy Aswad. And lastly, for those wishing to become part of the magic, we discuss some upcoming auditions taking place soon.

In the Hub, we discuss the missing, yet ever referenced, land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Beastly Kingdom. This land was supposed to be located where Camp Minnie Mickey is today. Through research we talk about what the land was supposed to look like, what the details of the attractions and restaurants were to be, and the eventual demise of the plans for this remarkable land. We feel that this is a land that could have done really well since its opening and we are sad to know that it might not happen. Maybe in the future, who knows? After all, “if we can dream it, we can do it.”

As always, if you like the show, please rate us and leave a review in the iTunes Store. We do appreciate you taking the time to do so. Also, you can find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@magicourway). Find some of our video statuses on Keek.com. We do want to hear from our fans and we want you to be part of our discussion. Also, check out our slowly growing website at www.qmarkproductions.com.

Thanks again for listening to us. We do realize that you have many choices when it comes to Disney podcasts and we appreciate your attention. Attention. All visitors from the Magic Our Way Podcast, please keep all horns, claws, and tentacles clear of oncoming Metroliner Vehicles. Thank you.
