    Islam As A Culture

    Islam As A Culture

What exactly is Islamic Culture? Join us for a tangent-turned-episode delving into the idea of Islamic culture, and how it can possibly stand on its own while integrating with the cultures we live with. But how does the discussion around music and Islam play into this? What shift in Western culture has happened over these last few years that complicates the discussion? What can we do to really subscribe more to our own Islamic culture?

Join Imam Wisam Sharieff and co-host Jawaad Khan as they discuss the abstract idea around Islamic culture—if adaab, etiquette, and practices of the sunnah can amount to a shared culture between the ummah. Listen in for their childhood and adolescent experiences that inform how they think through this discussion. Finally, take in their final conclusions and thoughts around how you, too, can start to build an Islamic culture within your own life.

    Muslim Healing Center, A Dream

    Muslim Healing Center, A Dream

The happiest, healthiest place on earth? Yes, please! Join us for a discussion on IRHUM, Imam Wisam's dream of a healing center and movement that focuses on healing in all aspects: spiritual, mental, physical, communal and more. But will this be a glorified hospital, aiming to cure and treat real diseases? Why does Apple Park and Disney World come to mind when we discuss this healing center? Is there a place for Quran memorization, Tibetan bone breathing and physical therapy to have a home together?

Join Imam Wisam Sharieff and co-host Jawaad Khan as they dwell on the dream of opening a holistic healing center. Hear them discuss how the 12 AQL Legacy courses could find a home in this place, helping people improve their mental health, spiritual practice, and physical vitality. Listen in for what this could look like, and how the true idea of "healing" can be unifying and inclusive (rather than relegated to only the medical field and space). Finally, learn more about the different approaches to healing one can open their mind to (and hopefully work on at this future center (make dua for it!)).

On Wudu: Is It About Water Or About You?

On Wudu: Is It About Water Or About You?

Yes, an episode on wudu — but hear us out! When did wudu become less of a means to purify oneself before God, and more of an inconvenience? How can rethinking your wudu actually put ease and tranquility into your life? How can you actualize the truth that Allah is accessible to you NOW, with this simple, yet beautiful act?

Join Imam Wisam Sharieff and co-host Jawaad Khan as they discuss "Postures of Purity," the third in our series of 12 courses-peaks-quests-and-more. Listen in as they  reflect on the realities of makeup, socks, and just not wanting to get wet, as barriers to this act of purity. Hear them delve into how to access this simple ritual differently, and gain more from each experience. Finally, take in advices on the benefit of wudu as learned over and over again in our traditions.

Note, a narration is mentioned toward the end, here is the full context of it: Abu Hurairah narrated that Allah's Messenger (s) said: "Shall I tell you that for which Allah will wipe out your sins, and raise your ranks?" They said, "Of course Allah's Messenger!" He said: "Performing Wudu well in difficulty...[and several other acts]." (Tirmidhi)
On this hadith, it's been said that Ibn Rajab al-Hanbal comments "Performing Wudu’ in the intense cold is one of the best actions."

If I Could Ask: Supercharging Your Dua

If I Could Ask: Supercharging Your Dua

"If I Could Ask" is all about amplifying bliss (and low) points in your day through personalizing your dua. But how did this video series and course find its origins in a trip to Hawaii? What in the world does it mean to "supercharge your dua?" How does Imam Wisam respond when someone asks him to "make dua for me"?

Join Imam Wisam Sharieff and co-host Jawaad Khan as they delve into the story behind "If I Could Ask," including how they worked to change the way people use and approach dua. Listen as they dig into the way a dua's translation is framed and the different times you wouldn't expect to use the prescribed duas.

    The Story Behind "Running Translation"

    The Story Behind "Running Translation"

It's one of the most common requests and recurring features of his speeches, and has been for over a decade now: the "running translation" of Quran. But what is it and where did it come from? How is Muhammad Alshareef involved and why did this simple idea resonate so well with so many people?

In this 2nd installment, join Imam Wisam Sharieff and co-host Jawaad Khan as they discuss the beginnings and development of Wisam's signature "running translation" of the Quran over the years. Hear a sample running translation and dive in as they discuss the ways in which their relationship to Quran has evolved over the last 20 years.

Furthermore, they discuss what this could look like in the future and give the listener advice on accessing the Quran for themselves.

    The Story Behind "Knowledge Travels"

    The Story Behind "Knowledge Travels"

The year was 2009. Imam Wisam Sharieff, while studying with a group of 10 other students of knowledge in Egypt, got on camera and declared to the world the birth of what would be his first video series: "Knowledge Travels," which not only chronicled lessons and reminders, but videos about cats, palm trees, potato vendors and more.

In this debut episode of the Wisam Sharieff podcast, join Imam Wisam Sharieff and co-host Jawaad Khan as they discuss the origins of this unique series of vides that would ultimately lead to the creative approaches of Imam Wisam's later work teaching Tajweed and Quran in a fun, yet accessible style.

Also hear them reflect on the early days of Islamic content on YouTube, the struggles of uploading video in a country with spotty internet coverage, and what the next generation of Islamic content-makers should keep in mind.
