    Ari Weinzweig, Zingerman's

    Ari Weinzweig, Zingerman's

On today's episode of All in the Industry®, Shari Bayer is on-location in Ann Arbor, her college town of The University of Michigan (#goblue!), with her guest Ari Weinzweig, the radical CEO and co-founding partner of the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, which includes the legendary Zingerman’s Delicatessen, which opened over 40 years ago, in addition to 13 other businesses (all around the Ann Arbor area), with more than 23 managing partners. Recognized by Inc Magazine as one of “The World's 10 Top CEOs (They Lead in a Totally Unique Way);” by the James Beard Foundation as one of the “Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America,” and the recipient of a Bon Appetit Lifetime Achievement Award — Ari has charted a new path for creating and growing a business. Rather than replicate the original, and now iconic, Zingerman’s Delicatessen, Ari and his partner Paul Saginaw made the conscious decision to create very different businesses, with their own managing partners, that would instead replicate the original Zingerman’s values, which Ari has continued to expand upon and write about extensively. He is the author of the four-part series Zingerman’s Guide to Good Leading, as well as a public speaker and writes a weekly e-newsletter. Today's show also features Shari's PR tip to be radical; Speed Round; Industry News on The New York Times article, "The New Reality for College Dining Halls: Dozens of Dietary Restrictions" by Priya Krishna; and Solo Dining experience at the latest location of NY culinary and cultural icon, Russ & Daughters, in NYC's Hudson Yards neighborhood.

    Episode 16: Ari Weinzweig

    Episode 16: Ari Weinzweig

Ari Weinzweig is the co-owner and founding partner of Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, a family of small food related companies and ventures. Zingerman’s Community of Businesses has since evolved to nine businesses from the first original deli in 1982, revolutionizing the idea of food mail orders, and the way people eat in Michigan. On this special episode of Evolutionaries, hear from Ari himself on how Zingerman’s became so instrumental in the food industry. This program has been sponsored by Heritage Foods USA.

“Relationships are relationships. There’s a mythology that relationships are supposed to be forever, but most of them aren’t for whatever reasons. Each of us as individuals is growing and evolving, and I think that we’ve never held it against somebody if they don’t want to work with us.” [15:50]

“Part of our current vision for Zingerman’s 2020 is that we leave our world a better place than when we got going.” [16:00]
