EP 272 | Ariel Posen New Album 'Reasons Why'

The Sept 9 Mulligan Stew has a special guest – Ariel Posen.

He’s just achieving liftoff in his career but there's absolutely no denying he has a profile arc heading up.

A session guitarist in Winnipeg (I saw him as the second guitarist in Bros. Landreth. If Ariel is  playing beside Joey Landreth and more than  holding his own, you know he is good)

He began his career quietly showcasing new guitars online for the companies making them.

He had no idea the effect he was having on the guitar and music fans of the world, especially in Europe.

So. when he finally decided to start his solo career and released his first album How Long  (2019)  Ariel was gobsmacked to find a ready and willing audience in Europe and across Canada, then in the USA.

Then came Headway, Mile End, Mile End 2, Familiar Ground, the Downtown EP and just now Reasons Why.

    He’s touring Canada

    Sept 26th in Calgary

    Sept 27 in Edmonton

    Sept 28 in Saskatoon

    Sept 29 Winnipeg  (home town)

BUT FIRST – On Sept 23 he performs at the 2023 Eric Clapton Crossroads Festival in LA.

Also invited by Eric are The Bros. Landreth. Also from Winnipeg.

    EP 209 | Ariel Posen

    EP 209 | Ariel Posen

    Ariel Posen is the guest.

I've spent a lot of time attempting to describe who he is and what he does.

-Winnipeg born now Montreal. Became the go-to guy for guitar work. ..precise vocal harmonies – and very interesting songs.

I still can't explain what he does with the guitar, that is until you hear him play.  WOW.

He came to prominence with The Bros. Landreth then went solo.

Latest EP is Downtown. Releases Mid July but we have several tracks for you.

Anyway. Because I can't do the man and his playing justice I’ll leave you with some quotes from his last tour in the UK 2020.

Possibly the best guitar solo I’ve heard in 12 years of owning a music venue! Keep Watching!

2,420,174 views Feb 5, 2020, Canadian guitarist, singer, producer Ariel Posen played at Fat Lil’s in Witney, UK on Tuesday 4th February 2020. I knew he’d be good because he used to be in Brothers Landreth, but didn’t expect to hear this incredible, dynamic solo. Combining slide techniques, finger picking, dissonance and a fuzz tone to die for. It builds and builds. I was totally blown away! And I think it is possibly the best (to my taste) I’ve heard in all the years of owning the club

I've been playing guitar for 15 years and not once have I ever played one of those notes. What a pro.

This kind of style is the future of rock. Don't get me wrong, I love a good ole CCR riff. However, today's scene can barely keep up with consistently putting out new and original content. These are the kinds of brave and avant-garde performances that will be shaping the guitarists of tomorrow. This dude HAS IT

That’s a modern-day Jimi Hendrix experience right there! Thanks for sharing

    Podcast 318: Ariel Posen

    Podcast 318: Ariel Posen

Guitar great/singer-songwriter Ariel Posen just released a new album, Headway

On this week's Fretboard Journal Podcast, we talk to Posen about the making of the album, the art of cowriting (and how it's changed in the pandemic), why he loves his Two-Rock amplifiers, and his current gear lineup.

Posen recounts his early infatuation with slide guitar, thanks to the music of George Harrison, Ry Cooder and Kevin Breit (who we interviewed during on FJ Podcast ep. 304). We also chat about why he's begun to love Jazzmasters, why he prefers modern guitars over vintage, and much more. Jason also gives a recap on the ever-growing Fretboard Journal family of podcasts.
