    Dear Artists feat. Krate Digga

    Dear Artists feat. Krate Digga

I’ve been receiving inquiries about what an EPK (electronic press kit) is and what needs to be in them. I’ve also been in various conversations where some artists missed opportunities due to not having certain tools to present to media, DJs, event promoters, and even to their fans. One would say that its tragic to not have an EPK, but for me, I give grace…to an extent.

To an extent = Google, networking, asking an OG or someone that has done this over and over is always a reliable resource. Plus, Krate Digga might not go so far with you. *laughs*

With that, I took some time to share quick bullets (below) that artists need to consider and have on them…at all times. You never know when someone will ask you for a song to play at a kid’s event or if a blogger wants to cover your music on their platforms. We HAVE TO BE PREPARED.

Enjoy the show and thanks to my brother Krate for coming through with the voice of reason. #TOTHETOP

    -have an EPK

    -have clean music

    -build relationships with the DJs

-make sure you’re sending the work to media

-keep making dope music and share it

    #14 - Spida

    #14 - Spida
On this episode, Spida aka Spida Verse aka SpidaCrazy8 joins me to talk about his spida-web of music industry work spanning from artist management, product and business promotion, and even being a writing and performing artist. He has worked with his team to put the NW Arkansas Rap & hip-hop scene on the map. From local showcases and concerts to large-scale national-act productions, Spida has been bridging the gap between NW Arkansas and the world. It was great to sit and get his perspective on our local, regional, and global music scene.

    #7 - Papa Rap & Lance Wright

    #7 - Papa Rap & Lance Wright

This episode has TWO folks who I have great history with. Papa Rap & Lance Wright!

Al “Papa Rap” Lopez, originally from Puerto Rico, is an award winning song writer (John Lennon Song Writing Contest) and a charismatic Latino performer, musician, writer, and inspirational motivational speaker.

Lance Wright is one of my best buds, we have shared countless hours chatting, on podcasts and not, about music, life, comedy, and more. Lance always brings the funny, and Papa Rap visited BOTH of us at our elementary school as kids. How cool is that?!

Inside the Music Biz: Rainwater Talks Mo3's Tragic Loss, Texas Talent, and Manager Realities | Get Yo Ass Up Show

Inside the Music Biz: Rainwater Talks Mo3's Tragic Loss, Texas Talent, and Manager Realities | Get Yo Ass Up Show

Get Yo Ass Up returns to Dallas for another WILD conversation with music manager and impending CEO, Rainwater.

Tune in as Rainwater speaks about the tragic death of Mo3, why he doesn’t want to work with any more gangster rappers, and what being a manager to the rich and famous is really like.

It’s not all doom and gloom though as Rainwater also shares his favorite Texas haunts with Tony and explains why sleeping with other women makes his home life better!

    KEY POINTS:

    - How a music manager is analogous to a babysitter

    - Separating street mentality from the business mentality

    - Do rappers make rapping a difficult job?

    - What makes artists in Texas so special?

    - Why the women in Texas are different

    - Rainwater’s message to all mothers

    QUOTABLES:

“They got to separate the street mentality from the business mentality, street rappers. Now, if you're still in the streets and trying to rap, that don't mix. Either you go to jail, or you get killed, or you go to jail for killing somebody.”

“You tell somebody ‘don't do this because this might happen.’ Well, I can look at the n*gga and say ‘I seen this happen.’ I'm like a prophet. I seen it happen and I wouldn't want it to happen again.”

    142. Royalties: Self-inflicted Wounds

We all know someone who knows someone who's big dream is to land a big recording contract or publishing deal. But on the flipside, we've all heard story after story of artists trying to get OUT of that "dream" deal.  Why?

Now where as bad deals aren't necessarily done based on color, there is a peculiar phenomenon that will give you pause. It's bad enough that you can count the number of Black executives at the helm of major entertainment companies on one hand. How is it, then,  there's so many Black artists then still sign bad deals under their own kind?
