Asha Degree was a 9 year old girl who went missing from her home in Shelby, North Carolina in 2000. She left her home in the middle of the night and was seen walking along the nearby highway before running into a wooded area. Asha was a happy, shy, and obedient girl, which makes her disappearance unusual. A year and a half later, her bookbag was found with items inside that didn't appear to belong to her. Authorities have concluded that Asha was abducted following her leaving home...

This week on Solvable Mysteries we cover the disturbing and baffling case of Asha Degree, who left her home early in the morning on February 14th, and then completely disappeared in the middle of a massive search for her.   Asha had deliberately packed her bags and set out from her home during a raging storm in the dark early morning hours for mysterious reasons. Her family, friends, and investigators can find no reason why she would have left home, and though she was spotted fleeing the area, nothing more has been found since, so authorities suspect she met with foul play.  Since then, the Asha Degree case has gone cold. Can this missing child cold case from North Carolina be solved?

Asha Degree: Disappeared into the Stormy Night

Asha Degree: Disappeared into the Stormy Night

Asha Degree was a well-behaved, athletic, smart young girl living in Shelby, North Carolina.  However, one morning she snuck out of her house before school, never to be seen again.  The subsequent investigation determined she had been planning her escape for days, but no motive could be found.  She was seen over a mile from her home walking down Highway 18 in the middle of a thunderstorm by at least two passing motorists. Some of her belongings were found in a shed behind a business.  Months later, her backpack was found in a construction site 26 miles away.

What happened to Asha? Why did she leave her house during a terrible storm?  Why was her backpack found so far away and in a perfectly preserved state.  We investigate these questions and more on this week's episode.
