Bienvenue à Compton, l'une des villes les plus emblématiques de l'histoire du (Gangsta) Rap. Le nombre d'ambassadeur qu'à eu cette ville durant les années 90 sont assez conséquent. Mais dans les années 2000, un seul à porter cette scène califonienne sur dos, et c'est The Game. Et il sort, en pleine guerre contre le G-Unit, une mixtape qui va faire énormément de bruits pour les amateurs de rap, et qui va lancer un mouvement (le G-Unot) dans tout un pays : cette mixtape, c'est Stop Snitchin Stop Lyin, accompagné d'un DVD, sorti en fin 2005.

L'été est derrière nous depuis quelques semaines dans la métropole française, mais pour réchauffer les coeurs, on va de nouveau parler d'un buddy movie, mais cette fois, qui se passe sous la chaleur floridienne (et des flingues), et qui est, surtout, un très bon film : Bad Boys, première réalisation cinématographique de Michael Bay en 1995, avec Martin Lawrence, Will Smith, Tcheky Karyo, et Tea Leoni.

Sean Penn's breakthrough feature film introduced '80s filmgoers to a young Ally Sheedy, a gigantic Clancy Brown and the most dangerous correctional facility in America. It also presented a surprisingly well-developed teen romance, and it taught us all how to use a pillowcase to become barn boss.

In this episode, the Shat Crew discusses how the "Bad Boys" movie poster steals the movie's thunder, how solitary confinement might not be that bad and how the staff of Rainford Juvenile Correctional facility likely was gambling on death matches between children (even though Big D thinks they were doing an OK job).

The 90s were a TIME to be Black and be in film. And a lot of us were raised by the content from this film. It was also a moment for relevance, connectivity, and realizing that the spectrum of Blackness was a lot closer together than we may have realized. Set It Off? Above the Rim? Friday? New Jack City? Black folks were living on the silver screen.

In this episode, Dalin and AJ dive into the subject of 4 movies from the 90s - Boomerang, Soul Food, Bad Boys, and Love & Basketball - that influenced their relationships with the culture and how it cultivated who they became as adults. They'll also talk about the relevance these films may have today. So grab that popcorn, chocolate of your choice, and extra large icee (go to the bathroom first) because Battle Fatigue is taking you to the movies!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just blowing crap up in the 1995 film from Michael Bay, Bad Boys.

I’m curious, is this another one of those mix-‘em-ups that could be solved by sitting down and having a clear and calm conversation with all parties involved? Not with the vaguely European bad guys. Those punks aren’t going to listen to anybody. They’re all about the drug money.

But the situation with Mike, Marcus, and Julie—couldn’t everything be cleared up by brewing some coffee, taking it easy for a bit, and explaining that Mike and Marcus are the opposite of who she thinks they are? Easy peasy, lemon squeezy, right?

Or is that just me being a grump? Maybe I’ve seen too many films that are full of dumb people who need to learn how to communicate a heck of a lot better?

Whatever the case may be, none of it actually matters. This is a Michael Bay film, dear friends. The only thing that does matter is his pathological, fetishistic need to see shit blow up! BANG! POW! BLAM! Michael Bay needs those KABOOMS! and he needs them now!
