Sitting in the Shade of Another Tree

Sitting in the Shade of Another Tree

In this week's episode, Keith and Matthew talk about a new book called "Sitting in the Shade of Another Tree," which is a collaborative effort with Patheos. The theme of the book is in the subtitle: What we learn by listening to other faiths. In an age of rigidity and divisiveness, this book counters that by putting love and empathy front and center.

Mosques, Meditation, Meals - Mash Joy, Interfaith Activist

Had a wonderful chat with Mash whose enthusiasm for interfaith work is so inspiring and infectious. We did cover the main religions - Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism but also did a quick side trip to the Bahai. His love for the rituals in the different faith groups really wants to make you get involved and reach out to people around you. A different side of Haringey yet again!

How Music Feeds the Spirit and Soul — With Atieno Mboya

How Music Feeds the Spirit and Soul — With Atieno Mboya

Music, the Baha'i teachings assert, is “the food of the soul and the spirit.” In this episode, we explore that spiritual concept with Atieno Mboya, the African Baha'i attorney and legal scholar.

Atieno grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, has lived all over the world, and is an academic in the field of international and environmental law. As a Baha'i and a mother, she practices a rigorous professional discipline and raises her children conscientiously – and one of the things she loves, music, helps her do both. She first learned to sing the songs of the spirit as an elementary school student in a Catholic school, and has continued to express her joy with music in her journey as a Baha'i.

With the regime cracking down and a young daughter to care for, she must decide on a new road, one that ultimately brings her to Australia and, finally, behind the wheel.

Taking the First Jump On the Search for Knowledge — with Kate Glastonbury

In the final episode of our first season, Sean speaks to Kate Glastonbury, who was born and raised in Wagga Wagga, Australia, and now works in international development in Sydney. As a young woman in the mid-90s, Kate briefly lived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia — a place that had just come out of Soviet rule and that was, Kate says, “similarly new to the world as I was.” Kate became friends with Sean around this time, and he frequently shared with her passages from the writings of the Baha’i Faith and one in particular that she'd never forget.

    What is Special Education?

    What is Special Education?

As a mild/moderate special education teacher, I give my point of view of how disability is viewed in the United States. Spoiler alert!!! We have treated disabled people , like trash and we are barely trying to turn the ship and include people with any type of disability into our society.
