Damian Humbley: 20 Years on the West End

Damian Humbley: 20 Years on the West End

Since arriving into the UK 20 years ago, Damian Humbley has become one of the most eminent figures on the musical theatre scene. After taking over the role of Walter in The Woman in White at the Palace Theatre, Damian has since taken on roles such as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, Charley in Merrily We Roll Along and is now appearing in the all-star cast of Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends. A lifelong Sondheim aficionado himself, he tells us about his love of Sondheim and how amazing it feels to be working alongside such established talents on Old Friends

In this exclusive interview, Damian Humbley looks back over his career, telling us about how the theatre scene has changed and is continuing to evolve. After recently starring in The Great British Bake Off musical, we hear him talk about how it's becoming increasingly challenging creating shows that are as commercially successful as they are critically. After the show premiered in Cheltenham, the show made its way to the Noel Coward Theatre where it had a modest run and gained new fans as well. Old Friends also marks the first time Damian has returned to the Gielgud theatre having previously starred in the acclaimed but short-lived production of Lend Me a Tenor. It's interesting to hear Damian provide his insight and analysis of what is currently happening across the theatre landscape as he looks ahead to the next 20 years of his career. He remains committed to creating high quality pieces of art and shares his hopes of working on more Sondheim pieces going forwards.

Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends runs at the Gielgud Theatre until 6th January 2024

Episode 41 - Shoktopus, timtam slam and Pru's saggy bits

Episode 41 - Shoktopus, timtam slam and Pru's saggy bits

Episode 41 has all of the best bits of kmfm Breakfast with Garry and Chelsea.

Chelsea was baffled by the 3 drain superstition and the people of Kent shared their weird and wonderful improvised cutlery.

Garry tried to keep up with the Gen Z's guessing the new slang that made it to the 2023 dictionary and a Kent landmark had a glow up. Things went down under, when newsreader Kate Faulkner challenged Garry and Chelsea to a Tim Tam Slam and the Great Aussie O quiz.

From Shoktopus, halving beds and words of encouragement, feast on it all in this week's episode of the Breakfast Buffet Podcast with Garry and Chelsea.

Kim-Joy of The Great British Bake-Off

Kim-Joy of The Great British Bake-Off

On The Great British Bake-Off season nine, Kim-Joy became well known not just for how cute her baked goods were but for how meticulously, exquisitely crafted they were. Her success on the show has been parlayed into a series of cookbooks and even a collaborative card game. Before all that success, things were different for Kim-Joy, including a strained relationship with her father in an unusual housing arrangement, years of selective mutism at school, and a lot of loneliness, depression, and anxiety.

Kim-Joy eventually found her way into a career as a mental health provider and found herself in a relationship with a man, now her husband, who encouraged her creative pursuits and helped provide a safe space in which to create.

How does someone go from isolation to a medium that asks you to share everything? And how did she manage her world once she got there? We talk to Kim-Joy and find out.

Pre-order Kim-Joy's new book, Bake Me A Cat: 50 Purrfect Recipes for Edible Kitty Cakes, Cookies and More!, at the bookstore of your choice. Season 6 Ep 5: Should someone go check on that noise?

Season 6 Ep 5: Should someone go check on that noise?

This week's episode kicks off learning about how the baking challenge went. The obstacles mounted after a few failed trips to the store. Starting the cake bake with gluten free pancake mix wasn't  ideal, but no one was willing to go back to the store. Emotions were high for the bake and Tamara did not thrive in that team building exercise. Weirdly it was easier to team build with the children and work together to frost a cake. Lots of pool and foosball played, and the winner of the foosball was the five year old niece. Rheannon's birthday also included some mudding and drywall work. Tamara learned a lot about mixing the perfect mud. Tamara has been struggling getting her workouts in. After getting four walks in none of the workouts met the heart rate requirement. John joined us at the end of the podcast, but maybe didn't appreciate us airing all of his bad behavior. Things also got exciting this weekend when the microwave tried to catch itself on fire.  Also, one of the cats brought in a mouse and then let it go in the living room. Let's just say it went downhill fast.

    Paddington (2014)

    Paddington (2014)

Jason Furie loathes movies that feature half-assed CGI bipedal animals interacting in a live-action environment. Adam Roth is surprisingly ok with it. We dared our listeners to have us watch and review 2014's Paddington by using the hashtag #paddington4lyfe and we lost. In more ways than one according to Jason. Well, we watched it, and now we're reviewing it.

The Great British Bake Off’s Nadiya Hussain

“I’m never going to say I can’t do it. I’m never going to say maybe. I’m never going to say I don’t think I can. I can, and I will,” said Nadiya Hussain when she won The Great British Bake Off—and the hearts of everyone watching. Nadiya has become quite the phenomenon since her 2015 win, going on to film multiple TV programs, bake a cake for the Queen, and write two cookbooks in the U.K. One of them, Time To Eat, launches in the U.S. this week and it’s designed for busy folks like herself. It’s also the companion to her Netflix series of the same name. Nadiya chats with host Kerry Diamond about her meteoric rise, her mental health battles, her childhood, and more on the eve of Time To Eat’s launch. Tune in and learn why she’s beloved for so much more than just her baked goods.
