Episode 30: Thirty-seven (37) baptisms on one college football team on one night! The rise of personal spiritual directors. Women in the church need women in the church.

On August 7, 37 players on the Faulkner University football team gave their lives to Christ in baptism. Hear the story from coaches and a player who were there (in the water). Personal spiritual direction is emerging as a new kind of minister and ministry among both believers and seekers. What is it? How does it work? Is it right for you or members of your congregation? Two certified spiritual directors give their take. Loneliness and a longing for connection may be as much a crisis in the Church of Christ as it is in the country at large. Hear from a woman who, 20 years ago, started a ministry to connect generations of women in her congregation around common tables and open homes--and how that ministry spread to congregations across the nation.

Healings - Adriana's Baptism - Drawn By the Holy Spirit

Healings - Adriana's Baptism - Drawn By the Holy Spirit
The Lord was stirring her heart to be baptized and she knew her church was holding a baptism, but she did not know where. As she took a walk, she heard music. It was worship music. In her excitment she went up to the door and knocked. To her surprise, they were having a baptism and to top it off, it was her church that she had just began attending! The Holy Spirit lead her to the right place at the right time as it was the desire of her heart. www.houseofglorychurch.org

Sprint car champ & American Ninja Warrior McKenna Haase

Sprint car champ & American Ninja Warrior McKenna Haase

Ryan gives Alyssa and Jeremy some lessons in veganism and we all probably spend too much time talking about vegan stuff, Alyssa talks mac n cheese and baptisms and Jeremy shares a bit about his word and goals for the year. So yeah - that all goes together, right?

And while we love our guest McKenna Haase, it started off on a sour note for Jeremy when he asked her what her favorite Hootie & the Blowfish song is and she responded with "I don't know what that is." Other than Hootie, 25 year old McKenna talks about her incredible racing experiences, what it was like to be on American Ninja Warrior (twice!), training with NFL players and more!

Special Report: Is My Baptism Valid?

Special Report: Is My Baptism Valid?

We decided to do a breaking news podcast as the result of a recent NY Times article on a situation in the Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona, where a priest improperly Baptized thousands of people by using the words "WE Baptize you..." instead of "I baptize you...."

We explore the situation from a pastoral perspective as well as a philosophical and liturgical one.

Some links to aid you on this journey:

The NY Times story can be found here.

Here is the actual rite of Baptism that we use in the Catholic Church.

Church Search goes across the street to The Cathedral of St John the Evangelist here in Cleveland.

The Gospel is for 2/27:  And can be found here.

Why Should Missionaries Report on Baptisms and Churches?

Why Should Missionaries Report on Baptisms and Churches?

Should missionaries keep track of baptisms, new churches, UUPG's, etc.? Should they publish these reports to their supporters and the public? Is this self-serving, or just to make money, or brag? Listen in as Randy shares how careful reporting - of both quantity and quality - is essential in order to find gaps and push the Great Commission forward - for God's glory. Randy shares super practical tips on how to do reporting well, with the right heart, and so that it benefits front line workers and the work.

    Baptisms (Conclusion) | Ep. 20

    Baptisms (Conclusion) | Ep. 20

We continue our study in the principles of the doctrine of Christ and conclude the doctrine of baptisms. Why baptism in water and in Spirit? Death and burial are necessary to be resurrected. We cannot be resurrected into a new life in Christ Jesus without dying first. So both baptism in water and in the Spirit are necessary and are essential to becoming born again (John 3:3-5).

    Baptisms 3 | Ep. 19

    Baptisms 3 | Ep. 19

We continue our study in the principles of the doctrine of Christ getting deeper into the doctrine of baptisms. The focus in this segment is on the baptism in the Spirit and the precedents for it from Acts chapters 1, 2, 8, 10, 18 and 19. The testimonies are overwhelmingly in favor of the inseparableness of water baptism in Jesus’ name and the baptism in the Spirit.

    Baptisms 2 | Ep. 18

We continue our study in the principles of the doctrine of Christ getting deeper into the doctrine of baptisms. We focus on the meaning of baptism or baptize itself and the precedents for baptisms in water and why Jesus was baptized. Jesus set the example for us to follow, not only by partaking in water baptism (which for Him was personally unnecessary), but also in that He baptized others.

    Baptisms 1 | Ep. 17

    Baptisms 1 | Ep. 17

We continue our study in the principles of the doctrine of Christ here with baptisms. We have to consider the gospel of the kingdom or of Jesus Christ because baptism was intertwined with the preaching of the gospel and we conclude with a very important question, "The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men?"
