Fly Penguins Fly Episode 96: "A Conversation With Jesse Marshall“

Welp, there’s no avoiding it. Once or twice a season you’ve gotta face off against the greatest and do your best to contain them. The Penguins will take on precisely that challenge in Alberta Province tonight, going up against Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. They, like Crosby and Malkin are an honest-to-goodness 2-headed monster and and a gale force squall, whether faced one at a time or collectively on the EDM PP1.

For a deeper dive on just what the Penguins D-corps intend to do in reckoning with said Western Conference superstars this evening, read through the piece Josh Yohe published in today’s Athletic: https://theathletic.com/3724036/2022/10/24/penguins-oilers-mcdavid/ [If you’re a big fan and you don’t already subscribe to The Athletic, all I can say is this: It’s cheap and the best investment of sports-dollars you will make this year. Do it.]

Enjoy tonight's game versus the Oilers of Alberta and of COURSE:

    LET'S GO PENS!!

Goal or No-Goal with Colby Armstrong & Doug MacLean

Goal or No-Goal with Colby Armstrong & Doug MacLean

Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Producer Sam start off discussing the Battle of Alberta last night capped off with an overtime goal from Connor McDavid, and share their thoughts on the distinct kicking motion that disallowed Blake Coleman's potential game winner. Then, Colby Armstrong adds to the conversation about the goal decision and comments on what Darryl Sutter had to say postgame, Calgary's top guys not showing up, and why the NHL needs to see Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid face off (21:53). Later on, Doug MacLean checks in from Ohio to share his take on the kicking motion, before getting into the Leafs' supporting cast, Mark Giordano's new deal, and the priority of signing Jack Campbell to an extension (42:16).

Oilers Uncensored #10 Western Conference Finals Baby!

Oilers Uncensored #10 Western Conference Finals Baby!

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! The boys are back to break down the last 3 games of the battle of Alberta and how sweet it is to not only see the Oilers bounce the Flames in 5 but also for it to go exactly how we predicted! We break down the ridiculous narrative of "but just one guy beat us", how much we are loving Woodcroft more and more each game, play by play analysis of games 3, 4, and 5, who we would prefer to see in the conference finals and so much more.  This podcast is becoming the highlight of our weeks and anyone who hasn't checked it out is missing out on the very best Oilers content out there. Get on the train early and for god sakes tell a friend!

Also go to youtube right now and look up Oilers Uncensored to watch a few of the episodes that have video and all future episodes should be available for your watching pleasure as well. Don't forget to subscribe and leave a like on the videos!

    Kicking Back

    Kicking Back

Elliotte is back in the car! The Battle of Alberta lived up to the hype. Jeff and Elliotte react to the Oilers closing out an absolutely wild series…and the controversial disallowed Blake Coleman goal (2:30). Did Markstrom lose the series for Calgary (6:15)? Was something up with Calgary’s top line (8:45)? The Flames are now left wondering ‘what’s next?’. In the East, Carolina players channel their inner Brind'Amour and keep the home winning streak alive with a big win over New York (12:25), and Trochek finally gets a goal (14:45).

Despite a huge game and an incredible goal from Nathan MacKinnon, St Louis pulls off the win in overtime to stay alive (17:25). The guys wonder why have players stopped trying to cross centre ice before shooting for the empty net (20:15), and discuss Tyler Bozak earning his $750k in one shot with the huge game-winner (22:15) to force a Game 6. In non-playoff news, Barry Trotz, John Tortorella and others go through the interview process in Philly as the coaching carousel starts to spin (24:45), and Rick Westhead reports on some awful allegations surrounding hockey Canada (26:45).

Can the Flames Live to Burn Another Night?

Real Kyper and Bourne are joined by friend of the program Aaron Ward to weigh-in on the Battle of Alberta ahead of Game 5, if the Flames can contain Connor McDavid, and impact of not having a healthy Chris Tanev on the ice (00:35). Afterwards, Peter Loubardias stops by to share to remark on what's happened to the Flames so far this series, the need for more from Calgary's top guys, highlights those not named on Connor McDavid making the difference for Edmonton, and comments on Darryl Sutter's change of tone (22:51). To wrap up today, Nick, Justin and Sam react to Mark Messier's comments on The FAN Morning Show about the different feel of the 2021-22 Leafs, before discussing the challenge of building a Cup contender in the salary cap era (42:37).

Oilers Uncensored #8 First Round Breakdown +Round 2 Preview w/ Fraser Oliver

The people loved the playoff preview breakdown with Fraser so much before the playoffs got rolling we knew as soon as the remaining game 7's wrapped up we need to do another for round 2. Come listen to the heartbreak of a leafs fan and what he thought of the series as well as an in depth look into all 8 first round matchups, what went wrong and where we see things trending for each teams next round or offseason respectively. Also we go over our predictions for round 1 and see how we matched up against each other before making our predictions for round 2. Once we finished breaking down all other series but the Alberta ones we dove into the round 2 matchups for the Atlantic, Central and Metropolitan divisions saving the best for last. We finished this breakdown with the epic 7 game series for both the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers leading into a juicy discussion of the battle of Alberta we have all been waiting for. Some serious shots are fired, laughs are had and if we do say so ourselves some high level hockey analysis (possibly biased) is laid out for all to hear.
