An update to an earlier story about beavers' reintroduction in Britain.Â
★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★In this episode we head to the banks of the River Tay in Perthshire to meet with NatureScot’s beaver team and hear about the work they’re doing to help everyone in Scotland live alongside beavers again.
Recorded at a recent demonstration event held by the team to teach volunteers and land managers the skills to be self-sufficient and carry out effective tree protection in Tayside, we spoke to staff from NatureScot and The Beaver Trust as well as volunteers who were keen to learn more. We find out about the history of beavers and how they came to be in Scotland after such a long absence, what impacts beavers can have on our waterside woodlands and what can be done to mitigate some of those impacts. A really interesting listen.

The whole conceit of this show is that if look at the world in the right way, you’ll see stories everywhere. Some of the stories are epic power struggles chronicling the construction of a famous skyscraper or the founding of a city; but other stories are more modest, smaller in scope and scale. We call those mini-stories and they're part of an ongoing, end-of-the-year tradition in which 99pi producers and friends of the show talk to host Roman Mars about something cool and fun that you can tell your friends or family about during a holiday get together.
You’ll hear about a very, very long escalator! Beavers dropping from the sky! We’ll hear from Janet, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty! Plus a visit from the queen!Â
Christian chews on some facts about the American beaver & Ellen celebrates the festive Christmas tree worm. We discuss giant rodents, ecological engineering, coral reef symbiosis, and the prettiest worm.

Cinema has had a long relationship with cigarettes, starting in the early 1920's right through to the 50's where your favourite star was almost certainly aggressively hawking their product directly to you in their latest film as well as hacking up globs of green and brown sputum in between takes. Legislation and the momentum of social opinion saw a dramatic decline in depictions of smoking on screen over the years but let's face it, if you ever want to establish your character is tense or hedonistic or self-destructive, if you ever need to show they are stressed, have just had sex or are about to undertake a heroic suicide mission, if you need a single thing to show your audience that your protagonist is impossibly cool then you're not going to be doing that with a vape are you. We take time off from our busy lives to bring you the Top 5 Cigarettes, a discussion so good it will take your breath away.

GET OUT is Jordan Peele's sensational 2017 horror and follows photographer Chris as he runs a dizzying gauntlet of trying to remain politely affable whilst attempting to not be too offended when he meets girlfriend Rose's liberal parents for the first time in a wearying weekend away. It's MEET THE FOCKERS with racism then, right? Well not quite.
Â
A movie which intentionally plays on the fear of white people, for example the worry that young black males might reasonably have of experiencing violence in predominantly white American suburbs or the existence of apparently well-meaning surface-level non-racist liberals who turn out to be monsters perpetuating schemes of marginalization, subjugation and literal appropriation, this is an astonishing debut with Kubrickian style attention to detail and foreshadowing, clever dialogue, tight writing, a moody and evocative soundtrack and new ideas and discussions represented on screen. An absolute must see from a unique voice, already its targets seem a little dated with the US having culturally and spiritually regressed about a century since 2017 and the subtle threat of neoliberal racism now far outweighed by the more overt xenophobia and bigotry of the hard right, which seems to have more of a platform than ever.

It's the end of winter and Quack the duck has just finished his latest installation of Snow duck art in PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD. When a bored Peep and Chirp discover the astonishing things you can do with beaver, life will never be the same for either of them again. Narrated by Joan Cusack and set up to promote an interest in exploration and education, one of the dads was less than impressed by the scientific content.

Have you ever come face to face with the majestic beaver? Have you ever thought about just how impactful the little dam-builders are to the ecosystems they inhabit? This week, Sara Chitsaz, Hannah Cunningham, and Dylan Hall (a Terra Informa alum!) discuss Glynnis Hood's book The Beaver Manifesto, as well as our general thoughts about the popular, and sometimes not-so-popular, rodent. At the end of the episode, Sara also gives us a run-down on what beavers have been up to in the Alaskan tundra.

• Nicole and Veronica get high together, shoot guns together, and tell each other their secrets - except one, which is that Nicole sold Comrade Quack’s to a buyer who is Richard Casablancas wearing a plastic nose and false moustache, stacked on top of two other Richard Casablancases in a really big trenchcoat.
• Keith also does some shooting, when Clyde takes him duck hunting and leaves his phone unattended near a Mars. But the text messages Keith snoops into put him off the theory that Clyde and Big Dick are behind the bombings.
• Instead, Keith realises all the bombs killed people who were sex offenders. Cmon, that’s just Neptune, where everyone’s on the registry! But he decides it means Nicole is the bomber, taking revenge on rapists.
• Other tenuous bombing suspect of the week: Weevil! He’s receiving money from Clyde to sabotage the town, according to Sea Sprite Shitter Juan when Veronica puts the pressure on.
• Then for our weekly bomb: this one goes off in Comrade Quack’s! Don’t you dare take our precious Nicole from us, show!!
• Someone claiming to be the bomber has sent a note to the police, which keeps the murderheads busy, and forces Mayor Dobbins to streak through town.
• Murderhead Carol deduces that the note was written by Richard Casablancas, and to celebrate, she and Penn kiss! But their passion is interrupted by a gross discovery.
• Here are some palate cleansers though: Vinnie gets a free jacket, Alonzo and Dodie get into lavender lattes, and Cliff gets a puppy!
Join Jenny Owen Youngs and Helen Zaltzman to investigate Veronica Mars season 4 episode 5: Losing Streak, and probe such mysteries as why Veronica would not only therapy-shame Logan but also bike-shame him, why you would force-feed a stranger hummus, why everyone's wearing salmon-covered shirts, and why you'd keep your dead ducks and cold beers in the same cooler urghhhh.
Content note: Veronica Mars contains heavy themes, and this episode includes storylines concerning murder, rape, bombings, and dead ducks.

The hair show, A hairy situation, a hair brain idea, you get the point. We tackle the question of what is the "in" to have your privates. Is it neatly trimmed ,shaved clean, old school. Really what we are talking about is confidence and what is comfortable. This is one more question that shows and reminds us of some of the many questions we all had when we were newbies in the adult alternative lifestyle. Basically, swinging is on your mind. Â
We also work with another couple that got caught off guard on a playdate when the other couple jumped into a kink situation. Communication, communication communication!  If you want to have the hobby of sex with others you need to be in the practice of having open and honest communication. Listen to this show it might just help you have a better experience. Check out all our shows at : www.buzzsprout.com/181336
