Bernard Mendik was Larry Silverstein's former, brother-in-law. He and Silverstein were in a bidding war for the WTC complex. Mendik dropped out but his former company, Vornado actually bid $50 million over Silverstein's offer which was turned down by the Port Authority. Mendik, born on 5/29/29 died suddenly of a heart attack, one day short of his of his 72nd birthday. In a strange sequence of dates, Mendik died on the 28th, was born on the 29th and Larry Silverstein was born on the 30th, all in May. That's just one of the anomalies on 911.
