The Biblical Calendar and Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks or Pentecost

The Biblical Calendar and Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks or Pentecost

Most Christians today do not recognize or celebrate the biblical feast days. This is due primarily to the fact that Christianity teaches that the sacrificial aspect of the rites conveyed in the Torah have been fulfilled in Messiah Yeshua. I agree one hundred percent. But “fulfilled” does not mean “done away with.” I believe the Bible teaches that in Messiah, that which was a physical requirement for ancient Israel has become a spiritual reality for all time.

But what I want to focus on is how the biblical calendar is filled with symbolism of the Kingdom and God’s relationship with his people. I believe it is as we maintain recognition of these days that we can be reminded of God’s, and our, purpose. These days become practical object lessons that point to the totality of God’s work among his people, and his presence in this world.

How are we to keep these appointments? Certainly we are not to sacrifice animals; as mentioned earlier all sacrifice has been fulfilled in Messiah. However, on these special days we can still gather together as his people to review the symbolism of those sacrifices to bring greater awareness to our understanding of our relationship with God. Whether it is through deeper fellowship and community among his people, as well as renewing our total devotion to him and consummation in his service, we can become serious about our faith by living it out as object lessons that others can see and learn from, as well.

Even though we don’t bring actual sacrificial animals before Yahweh anymore, I believe these offerings were designed by Yahweh to represent real aspects of our spiritual lives, and I think it’s important that we continue to recognize these. So let’s take a look at what each of these different types of sacrifices means from a symbolic perspective:

    • A burnt offering represents total consummation in God’s service.
    • A sin offering represents that which is a substitute for us due to our disobedience to God’s torah.
    • The trespass offering was offered for unintentional or unknown sin.
    • A fellowship or peace offering represents thankfulness for God’s mercy and enjoyment of his relationship.
    • The grain and drink offerings represent our gratitude for God’s provision as firstfruits of all he has provided us.

I think it becomes readily apparent how these emblematic sacrifices apply in the life of the modern believer. If we are to honor these appointed times throughout the year, I believe they should be memorialized in the spirit of these attributes.

    40. Biblical Prophecy, The End Times, New Age, Yoga, and Revelation

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 40
     Host: Rebecca Twomey
    @theradiantmission
    Co-Host: Rachel Smith @rachelsmithsmith
    Jessica Speas @jessica_speas

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 40 we focus on using discernment in the end times. The times we are in are like the times of Noah. We are joined by special guest, Jessica Speas, to discuss common deceptions like the New Age, yoga, and how the book of Revelation was created as a gift to guide us.

In This Episode on Biblical Prophecy, The End Times, New Age, Yoga, and Revelation:

    • We focus on how mothers can use discernment during the end times. Many Christians ask, “what’s the big deal?” Well, Jesus is coming soon!
    • Something often missed and overlooked in this verse: the scoffers are believers. They are the naysayers that say Jesus isn’t returning soon and burying their head in the sand.
    • Jessica spent a year creating a Biblical timeline that shows the end times accelerating rapidly over the past 100-200 years.
    • God gave us Biblical prophecy as a gift.
    • The New Age and yoga other examples of deceptions that have crept into the church.
    • Those who read the book of Revelation will be blessed.

    Bible Verses Mentioned:

    39. Biblical Prophecy: Using Discernment in a Time of Deception

    39. Biblical Prophecy: Using Discernment in a Time of Deception

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 39
    Host: Rebecca Twomey
    @theradiantmission
    Co-Host: Rachel Smith @rachelsmithsmith
    Jessica Speas @jessica_speas

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 39 we discuss Biblical Prophecy with special guest, Jessica Speas. She shares her testimony, how she began eschatology, and the importance of using discernment during these times.

In This Episode on Biblical Prophecy: Using Discernment in a Time of Deception:

    • Jessica shares her backstory.
    • Jessica began to study eschatology and decided to put together a timeline of these prophetic events.
    • Looking forward to Jesus coming (and realizing it’s so close) lit a fire in Jessica.
    • The Lord is waking people up. There are watchmen on the wall calling out: this is coming. We need to be spiritually ready.
    • In Matthew 24 it talks about birth pains and the signs being birth pains. What’s interesting is that in our world now, they have literally been trying to change or numb all of the natural aspects of birth. Each generation is losing what the context “birth pains” actually means.
    • Why should mothers use discernment when it comes to Disney?
    • Making the change was hard. But in the moments of the hard she realized just how much of a deception it was.
    • Another example of how children are conditioned through what they watch is with The Little Mermaid.
    • Television is a very new idea. For 6,000 years it was not a thing. In the past 100 years it has become more and more popular.
      • In Daniel 12:3-4 it says, “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”
      • Nowhere in history has knowledge abounded like the past 100 years. From cell phones to pagers to computers, technology and knowledge has become unstoppable.
    • It’s important as Christians that we use discernment.

    38. The Final Biblical Feast: The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)

    38. The Final Biblical Feast: The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 38
    Host: Rebecca Twomey
    @theradiantmission
    Co-Host: Rachel Smith @rachelsmithsmith

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 38 we discuss the final Biblical feast: The Feast of Tabernacles, also known as Sukkot or the Feast of Booths.

In This Episode on The Final Biblical Fall Feast: The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot):

    • The Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot, is the final Biblical feast mentioned in the Bible.
    • Like Unleavened Bread, this feast also includes two sabbaths. They occur on the first day and the last day, this time the 8th day.
    • Zechariah 14:16-19
    • This passage is pretty fascinating because Zechariah was writing about the
Millennial reign of the Messiah after the Apocalypse takes place.
    • Another interesting detail is that Yeshua could have been born on the first day of Sukkot.
    • Rachel believes he specified the Word, Yeshua, becoming flesh to tabernacle with us because he was referencing his birth at the feast of tabernacles.
    • The final about this special Feast of Tabernacles and what it will
      mean when Yeshua returns.

    Bible Verses Mentioned:

    • Leviticus 23:33-44
    • Zechariah 14:16-19
    • 2 Corinthians 5:1-5
    • Revelation 21:3-4

    37. The Biblical Fall Feasts: Feast of Trumpets & Day of Atonement

    37. The Biblical Fall Feasts: Feast of Trumpets & Day of Atonement

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 37
    Host: Rebecca Twomey
    @theradiantmission
    Co-Host: Rachel Smith  @rachelsmithsmith

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 37 we’re continuing to discuss the Biblical feasts as we transition to the fall feasts: The Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement.

In This Episode on The Biblical Fall Feasts: Feast of Trumpets & Day of Atonement:

    • There are two types of trumpets mentioned in the Bible.
    • The fall feasts are special in their own way because their fulfillment represents things yet to come.
    • Scripture reveals a lot about the prophetic meaning of the Feast of Trumpets and that this feast points forward to a time when Israel will be gathered back into the land.
    • All of these Scriptures are speaking of the same event and signify
the importance of the trumpet blast.
    • But what about no one knowing the day or hour of His return?
    • Feast of Trumpets begins what’s called “the days of Awe.” There
are 10 days between this feast and the next, which is what’s considered the
holiest day of the year and that is the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur.
    • How can Christian’s celebrate or recognize the Day of Atonement today?
    • Now Rachel is simply mentioning these traditional beliefs, not to
say they’re right or wrong. She does not actually agree that doing any action
like fasting is what makes us right before God.
    • How will this feast be fulfilled in the future?
    • What is the correlation between Revelation and The Day of Atonement?

    Bible Verses Mentioned:

    • Leviticus 23:23-25
    • Isaiah 27:13
    • 1 Corinthians 15:51-53
    • 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
    • Leviticus 16
    • Revelation 20:11
    • Psalm 40:6-8

    @theradiantmission
    Co-Host: Rachel Smith @rachelsmithsmith

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 36 we’re continuing the conversation on the Biblical Feasts for Christians with a focus on Shavuot, also known as the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost.

In This Episode on The Biblical Feasts for Christians: Shavuot (Feast of Weeks or Pentecost):

We discuss the final Shavuot, also known as the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost.

    • The 4th Biblical feast is Shavuot.
    • Two significant points were made in Acts 2:1-4.
    • Connecting the Old Testament and New Testament.
    • Why celebrate Shavuot as a Christian?
    • How can Christian’s celebrate Shavuot today?

    Bible Verses Mentioned:

    • Leviticus 23:15-21
    • Acts 2:1-4
    • Acts 20:16

    35. The Biblical Feasts for Christians: Feast of First Fruits

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 35
    Host: Rebecca Twomey
    @theradiantmission
    Co-Host: Rachel Smith @rachelsmithsmith

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 35 we’re continuing the conversation on the Biblical Feasts for Christians with a focus on the Feast of First Fruits.

In This Episode on The Biblical Feasts for Christians: Feast of First Fruits:

    • We discuss another Spring Feast, the Feast of First Fruits.
      • The 3rd Biblical feast is the Feast of First Fruits.
    • Something important to point out: in the Gospel accounts and the Sabbaths specified in the Torah, there were 2 sabbaths that just occurred during the week of Yeshua’s death.
    • Why is this important? Because YHWH cares about every single detail, and because of all those details is how Yeshua perfectly fulfills the scriptures and this feast as well.
    • How can Christians keep the Feast of First Fruits today?
    • Food suggestion for the Feast of First Fruits.
    • Why did Yahweh require animal sacrifice for the feasts?

    Bible Verses Mentioned:

    • Jeremiah 6:16
    • Jeremiah 29:13
    • Leviticus 23:9-14
    • 1 Corinthians 15:20-23
    • James 1:18

Deuteronomy 14-16 | What is Sabbath For?

Deuteronomy 14-16 | What is Sabbath For?

Deuteronomy 14-16 contains instructions given by Moses to the Israelites on how to live as God's chosen people. These chapters emphasize the importance of obedience to God's commandments, separating themselves from the pagan Canaanite culture, and cultivating faith in God.

In chapter 14, Moses instructs the Israelites on what animals they can eat and what animals they should avoid. This is important because it sets them apart from the pagan cultures around them, who did not have dietary laws. Moses also instructs them to give a tithe of their produce to the Lord, which is a way to acknowledge that everything they have comes from God. This tithe is also used to celebrate with their families and the Levites, which creates a sense of community and fellowship among the people.

Chapter 15 emphasizes the importance of releasing debts every seven years and treating slaves with kindness and respect. This is a way to show compassion and generosity to those who are less fortunate and to acknowledge that everything belongs to God. The chapter also emphasizes the importance of giving generously to those in need, which is a way to honor God and show love to others.

In chapter 16, Moses gives instructions on celebrating the Passover and the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles. These feasts are important because they help the Israelites remember and celebrate God's goodness and provision. They are also a way to set themselves apart from the pagan cultures around them and to show that they are God's chosen people.

Throughout these chapters, Moses emphasizes the importance of the Sabbath as a day of rest and reflection on God's goodness. The Sabbath is a way to acknowledge that everything belongs to God and to take a break from the busyness of life to focus on Him. It is also a way to cultivate faith in God and to remember that He is the one who provides for all of our needs.

Today, the Sabbath is still important for Christians as a way to cultivate faith in God. It is a day to rest from our work and to focus on our relationship with Him. We can use the Sabbath as a time to read the Bible, pray, worship, and fellowship with other believers. By setting aside this time to focus on God, we can grow closer to Him and experience His presence in our lives.

    32. Rediscovering the Bible

    32. Rediscovering the Bible

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 32
    Host: Rebecca Twomey
    @theradiantmission
    Co-Host: Rachel Smith @rachelsmithsmith

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 32 we transition into a new mini-series that’s focused on the Bible and Biblical traditions, including Rachel’s experience rediscovering the Bible. In the coming episodes we’ll be talking about the Biblical Sabbath and the Biblical Feasts. These are both traditions that our lovely co-host Rachel has adopted over the recent years.

In This Episode on Rediscovering the Bible:

    1. It all began when Rachel read her Bible.
    2. What is “the church?” Is it a place?
    3. During this time, the Lord was working inside of Rachel.
    4. Easter became a holiday that she enjoyed celebrating until she realized that there were not three days between Good Friday (Jesus’ death) and Easter (Jesus’ Resurrection) as we are told in the Bible.
    5. The concert-like environment in many churches is focused on the Seeker-Sensitive Movement.
    6. She started praying for discernment and to bring her family to community that would teach her how to celebrate Passover and the Biblical Feasts. This led to a new journey for Rachel, her husband, and their family.
    7. There were a thousand little moments, but it all started with reading her Bible.

Bible Verses Mentioned on Rediscovering the Bible:

    1 John 5:2

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.”

(29:39) Jenny: “I do think it’s really important to have that Biblical foundation when you’re looking at the world because without that, I think a lot of people are falling into the New Age trap as well.”

    [33:45] Jenny’s Service

    • We all have a mission to spread His word.
    • There are so many things happening in the world. Wherever we are, that’s where we’re called to share.

(35:43) Jenny: “You don’t necessarily have to have a business around it or be on social media. Your mission field is where your two feet are planted. If we, as a body of Christ, actually step into that, what amazing things would happen for the kingdom.”

[37:39] Remember What God Did For Us

    • Remember God’s sacrifice and what it means.
    • This will help you understand who you need to be in Christ, not what the world wants you to be.
    • When man fell, the first sacrifice was an animal. The final sacrifice was the blood of Christ.
    • We don’t need to live in guilt and shame because of His sacrifice.

(38:21) Jenny: “So man fell, sin entered the world. That first sacrifice . . . God used that animal to cover them. So what now covers us [is] the blood of Jesus. So when you understand that and rest into that of who you are, not who the world wants you to be, but who you are in Christ.”

    [40:18] How to Raise Children

    • Whenever her children ask questions, Jenny would always point back to the Bible.
    • Children are different. We need God’s wisdom to guide us in raising them.

    [43:03] How to Stay Strong

    • Jenny recommends taking time off things. Pray and ask God for discernment and wisdom.
    • Be aware of what’s happening in the world.
    • God will reveal things to help people.
    • Remember, God is always with you. Bring Him more into your day-to-day life.
